This article analyses two novels by contemporary British author Penelope Lively by focusing on a recurrent topic in Lively’s fiction: the interrelation between memory and narrative in order to make sense of lived time as opposed to chronological time. In Lively’s "The Photograph" (2003) and "How It All Began" (2011), two apparently insignificant episodes force the two main characters, Glyn and Charlotte respectively, to revise their memories as well as life stories when entering their old age. Revising their life narratives by going back to their memories and making sense of their present situations proves to be a rewarding exercise which helps both protagonists to be ready to step into a new life stage. On the other hand, the narrative of each of the novels is constructed through the voices of those family members and friends who are part of Glyn’s and Charlotte’s past and present, and who contribute to add information to the respective revision processes of the protagonists, showing that time and memory, as well as narrative, are subjective constructed categories.

Although St. Basil did not live 50 years, the topic of the old age appears in his works quite often. On the other hand, it is clear that Basil does not discuss this issue in one par­ticular work or in the longer argumentation. The fragmentary statements about old age can be found in almost all his works, but most of them can be found in the correspondence of Basil. In this paper we present the most important ad the most interesting aspect of teach­ing of Basil the Great. As these certificates show that the bishop of Caesarea looked at the old age maturely, rationally estimated passage of time, which very often makes a man different. He experienced it, for example as a spiritual and physical suffering, which often were connected with his person. He saw a lot of aspect of the old age, especially its advan­tages – spiritual maturity and wisdom. What is more, he pointed also to passage of time, which leads a man to eternity, which should be prepared to, regardless how old he is. In his opinion fear is not seen opinions of St. Basil present really Christian way of thinking, well-balanced and calm.

<p>As a social being, interaction with others is one of human’s essential needs. These interaction and socialization in a society is often conducted in a settlement. A settlement as a community ecosystem has an important role in shaping people’s characters in a society. The condition of settlement can be an indication of the condition of its community. On the other hand, Islam as a <em>rahmatan lil 'alamin </em>religion actually provides its followers a set of values on islamic aspects in  the house and settlement. Islam gives some lessons of how a house could become not only as a gathering place for family members, but could also be a place of education and learning for  its  inhabitants.  Islam  also  gives us lessons of  how a house is  closely related to its settlement  and environment, and how every elements in a house should be in harmony and unity with its social and natural environment. This paper tries to analyze many aspects of slums based on some aspects of islamic housing. This research aims to analyze the request strategies used in an American TV Series entitled Full House season 7 episodes 1-12. The main characters are family members from three different age groups (adult, teenager, and children). This research attempts to see if there is any difference on the choice of request strategies used by the three age groups. Blum-Kulka and Olshtain’s (1984) theory on request directness level is used to classify the requests. Relative power and social distance are also studied to see how they influence the characters in making their requests. The results show that mood derivable is the most frequent strategy used by all age groups. Specifically, direct request is highly used by the adult age groups. On the other hand, indirect request is mostly used by the younger age groups. The results also show that all age groups tend to use direct strategy when the social distance is negative. However, when the social distance is positive, the choice of strategy depends on the authority of the speaker.

Commercial surrogacy in India is a booming industry however the raising number of poor illiterate women's participation as commercial surrogate poses serious question of coercion, on the other hand it economically empowers them. In this context, this article analyses the crucial question, can coercion be justified when it benefits the poor by investigating commercial surrogates’ life stories and looking into the various types of coercion discreetly operates. It concludes with few recommendations which can help in empowering poor commercial surrogates who involved in commercial surrogacy industry in India.

AbstractAs of his undergraduate days in Grenoble if not before, and up to 1992, Greimas maintained an ample and regular correspondence, notably with family, friends, collaborators, and students. In 1990, he told a compatriot that he mailed about thirty letters a week (Greimas, letter to Aleksandra Kašuba, 4 Sept. 1990, in Greimas and Kašuba (2008: 183)) – and he undoubtedly received as many. A number of correspondents saved his missives, sometimes along with a draft or carbon copy of their letters to him. Public and private collections hold a small portion of these exchanges, and a number of individuals have published a selection of his correspondence. Unfortunately, for his part, Greimas later burned most of the letters in French that he had received, as well as communications from family members. As he explained to Louis-Jean Calvet around 1988, “I was in the process of burning my correspondence. It’s the end of bringing everything to an end.” (Greimas, interviewed by Louis-Jean Calvet, ca. 1988, two cassette tapes.) On the other hand, Greimas did keep certain letters of intellectual or historical interest that he received from Lithuanians. He even edited the letters that the poet Henrikas Radauskas had sent him, which came out as an article in 1993 (see Greimas (1993) in the bibliography), and agreed with Aleksandra Kašuba to save the entirety of their epistolary exchanges for publication in book form, a project realized in 2008. The experience of passing and old agein the works of Victor Paskov and Stanislav StratievThe literary works of famous Bulgarian authors Stanislav Stratiev 1941–2000 and Victor Paskov 1949–2009 may be viewed in terms of athorough study of the human being and the multidimensionality of its existence. Their reflections about existential problems also involve the experience of passing and old age that have ontological, social, cultural, symbolic and metaphorical dimension. The novel A Ballad for George Henig 1987 by Paskov and the drama On the Other Side 1994 by Stratiev include clear and ambiguous images of the end of the human life. The experience of passing and old age affects aparticular person as apersonality and its relationship with the other people. This subject reveals, on the one hand, the crisis of human relations and values in contemporary Bulgarian society, on the other hand it emphasizes the fragility of the human condition, expressed in the experience of pain, illness, passing, old age and death.Опитът на преходност и старост в творчествотона Виктор Пасков и Станислав СтратиевТворчествотo на известнитe български автори Станислав Стратиев 1941–2000 и Виктор Пасков 1949–2009 можe да бъдe разгледанo кaто по-задълбочено изучаване на човешкото същество и на множествотo измерения на неговия живот. Some problems are often faced in educating children to be self-reliant. On the other hand independency is much required in their future life. This research conducted in RSPA Cisurupan, Garut, in April 2010 until April 2011, aimed at developing an integrated training model to improve function and social roles of the children in the independency. Employing research and development design with planning, preparation, implementation and maintaining, as well as evaluation, the model development involved the parents or the family members and the children. The research produced the Integrated Training Model to Improve the Function and Social Roles of the Children in Developing the Self-reliance, which had been validated in this research.

The Elementary Christian Living teachers of the School of Saint Anthony conducted a survey among their pupils regarding the factors that make them happy. The purpose of this research is to bring awareness regarding the things that Elementary pupils value in life leading them to happiness. This will also serve as a glimpse of pupils’ values and to determine the factors that will motivate them in their everyday lives. The following results were derived from the study’s findings: Grade one pupils are happy when they are with their families and when they play toys and gadgets. Grade two pupils, on the other hand, are happy with their family, friends, toys, and gadgets. Moreover, Grade three pupils enjoy being with their family and friends, and with new toys and gifts. As for the grade four pupils, they enjoy bonding with their families and friends, when they eat their favorite food and when they see their teachers. Furthermore, Grade five pupils love their families and are happy with new gadgets and toys. They are also happy when they play with their pets and friends. Lastly, the family serves as an important factor that makes the grade 6 pupils happy. Friends, gadgets, high grades and praying to God are the other encouraging factors of the grade 6 pupils’ gladness. Findings reveal family as the top consistent factor that makes the Elementary pupils happy. They enjoyed the different activities and experiences they had with their family members. Toys and new gadgets were also consistent factors that make the lower school pupils happy. Relationships with friends, on the other hand, serves as an important factor that inspires the Middle School pupils to be happy. Among Filipinos, across time, the family remains as the source of happiness among children. This research recommends the parents to be more reflective of the moments they spend with their children and to be more sensitive to their interests and needs. This research implies the impact of families on their children’s emotional development and the deep significant marks they leave in the lives of their children.

While most experts attempt to understand the Gilets Jaunes by establishing the causes of their anger, this paper studies this unprecedented mobilisation by focusing on the anger the protesters express. Their anger is examined by analysing four discursive examples of this feeling through the conceptual framework developed by Koenis. This framework makes a distinction between two types of anger: the anger expressed by the man of ressentiment and the rebel, respectively depicted by Dostoyevsky and Camus. The academic relevance of this paper not only lies in its attempt to bring emotions back into the study of protest but also to reconsider these two ideal frames of anger. The societal relevance, on the other hand, lies in that it depicts the anger of the Gilets Jaunes as being a complex combination of the two frames. This new perspective enables to understand the nuances of anger which drives the protesters rather than just reducing the GJ’s mobilisation as a bare manifestation of this feeling.

Memory is one of the most common ways to count as the same. This sameness works over the historical flux of lived time, allowing us to feel that the present connects directly to the past through the unmediated linkage of memory. On the other hand, this chapter also discusses how real memories also create some instabilities—in time (because the present never really is a continuation of the past) and in social identity (because you do not share my memories). These instabilities create the possibility of new readings as mimesis or metaphor, and ultimately of a play among different ways of counting as the same.
