The ability to collaborate successfully with others is a highly valued skill in the modern workplace and has been reflected in the increase of collaborative learning methods within education. Research has highlighted the crucial role of self-regulation in successful collaboration, and more recently begun to focus on understanding how groups jointly regulate their interactions. The current chapter outlines a mixed-methods study that compared the impact of individual- and group-centered prompts on the frequency of social metacognitive activities during online group review activities with college students (N=48) from the USA. Tentative study findings suggested that group-centered problematizing prompts were moderately successful in shifting groups towards more social forms of regulation such as co-regulation; however, they were not enough to move groups towards shared metacognitive regulation. Further results revealed how the quality of group engagement was influenced by participants' perceived value towards activities, function and focus of metacognitive episodes, and group dynamics.

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities have proclaimed the basic right of people to make one’s own choices, have an effective participation and inclusion. Research in the field of disability have stressed self-determination as a key construct because of its impact on their quality of life and the achievement of desired educational and adulthood related outcomes. Self-determination development must be promoted through specific strategies and especially, by providing tailored opportunities to practice those skills. Providing these opportunities across environments could be especially relevant as a facilitator of self-determination development. This manuscript aims to ascertain if opportunities at home and in the community to engage in self-determined actions are mediating the relationship between people intellectual disability level and their self-determination. Results have confirmed direct effects of intellectual disability level on self-determination scores. Indirect effects also predicted self-determination and almost all its related components (self-initiation, self-direction, self-regulation, self-realization, and empowerment) through opportunities in the community and at home. Autonomy was predicted by the intellectual disability level through an indirect effect of opportunities at home, but not in the community. These results highlight the need for further research to better operationalize and promote contextually rooted opportunities for people with intellectual disability to become more self-determined.

In recent years, there has been an increase in the incidence of ADHD in children and adolescents. Many learning and behavioral problems are associated with this disorder due to difficulties in cognitive and metacognitive functions. Only when individuals improve these functions will they be able to integrate in the social environment. Skills such as self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-control can help children with ADHD develop their emotional intelligence to control their cognitive deficits and adapt to diverse areas. With the rapid development of science, several medical and behavioral methods have been proposed to treat ADHD, which have contributed significantly to the control of symptoms. However, medication is considered as a first-choice treatment to reduce the symptoms. The present study investigates the comorbidity of ADHD with other mental and developmental disorders as also the role and effectiveness of drug intervention in order to improve the quality of life of these children.

In many areas of scientific knowledge, the application of the taxonomy showed high efficiency in systematization and regularization of the initial data, processing, analysis and conclusions on the basis of which the construction of new knowledge. However, in the field of information technology (IT) system using the taxonomy, except for some fragmentary cases, weren’t observed. In this paper is drawn attention to scientific and methodological possibilities of the taxonomy in IT, describes the main approaches in applying the taxonomy in information technology, provides an example of a road map for the application of the taxonomy in information technology major companies, and also describes the role and functions of taxonomy in the corporate system of project management, given taxonomy metrics and indicators of the project portfolio. It is shown that the taxonomy as one of the main tools of self-regulation, synergy enterprises is an important tool for improving productivity and quality of business processes, development of institutional capacity. Author emphasizes the fundamental role of taxonomy in the process of goal setting and systematization of objective fulfillment of projects.

Abstract Background Sleep, a process that restores the body’s ability to self-regulate, may be one important factor affecting self-care behaviors and blood glucose (BG) levels. The link between sleep quality, self-care behaviors, and BG levels may occur by sleep-altering daily self-regulatory failures. Purpose This study examined whether the relation between sleep quality and self-care behaviors occurred through self-regulation failures and whether the relation between sleep quality and BG levels occurred through self-regulation failures and self-care behaviors sequentially. Methods One hundred and ninety-nine adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) completed an online questionnaire for 14 days in which they reported sleep quality, self-regulation failures, and self-care behaviors. BG levels were gathered from glucometers. Analyses involved multilevel mediation models and focused on daily within-person and between-person variability of sleep quality. Results Better daily sleep quality was associated with higher self-care behaviors at both within-person and between-person levels, and self-regulation failures mediated the association between daily sleep quality and daily self-care behaviors at both within-person and between-person levels. Better daily sleep quality was associated with better BG levels at the within-person level and self-regulation behaviors and self-care behaviors sequentially mediated the association between daily sleep quality and daily BG levels at the within-person level. Conclusion This study provides a process account of the importance of daily sleep quality of adults with T1D, as well as one potential mechanism—self-regulation—that may explain the effect of sleep quality on diabetes outcomes.

This article introduces Cognitive Health Counseling 40+ (CH.CO40+), an individualized intervention that is conceptually based on the orchestration model of quality-of-life management ( Martin & Kliegel, 2010 ) and aims at improving satisfaction with cognitive health in adults aged 40 years and older. We describe the theoretically deduced characteristics of CH.CO40+, its target group, its multifactorial nature, its individualization, the application of subjective and objective measures, the role of participants as agents of change, and the rationale for choosing participants’ satisfaction with their cognitive health as main outcome variable. A pilot phase with 15 middle-aged and six older adults suggests that CH.CO40+ attracts, and may be particularly suitable for, subjective memory complainers. Implications of the pilot data for the further development of the intervention are discussed.
