The main purpose of this research is to develop and validate an efficient form of satellite image classification that integrates ancillary information (Census data; the Municipal Master Plan; the Road Network) and remote sensing data in a Geographic Information System. The developed procedure follows a layered classification approach, comprising three main stages: Pre-classification stratification; Application of Bayesian and Maximum-likelihood classifiers; Post-classification sorting. Common approaches incorporate the ancillary data before, during or after classification. In the proposed method, all the steps take the ancillary information into account. The proposed method achieves, much better classification results than the classical, one layer, Minimum Distance and Maximum-likelihood (ML) classifiers. Also, it greatly improves the accuracy of those classes where the classification process uses the ancillary data.

Population estimation statistics are widely used in government, commercial and educational sectors for a variety of purposes. With growing emphases on real-time and detailed population information, data users nowadays have switched from traditional census data to more technology-based data source such as LiDAR point cloud and High-Resolution Satellite Imagery. Nevertheless, such data are costly and periodically unavailable. In this paper, the authors use West Coast District, Singapore as a case study to investigate the applicability and effectiveness of using satellite image from Google Earth for extraction of building footprint and population estimation. At the same time, volunteered geographic information (VGI) is also utilized as ancillary data for building footprint extraction. Open data such as Open Street Map(OSM)could be employed to enhance the extraction process. In view of challenges in building shadow extraction, this paper discusses several methods including buffer, mask and shape index to improve accuracy. It also illustrates population estimation methods based on building height and number of floor estimates. The results show that the accuracy level of housing unit method on population estimation can reach 92.5 %, which is remarkably accurate. This paper thus provides insights into techniques for building extraction and fine-scale population estimation, which will benefit users such as urban planners in terms of policymaking and urban planning of Singapore.

<p>Routing on a road network requires geographical points on the road network that correspond best to the addresses of the given origin and destination, here called snapping points. The technique to determine such snapping points is also called offline map matching. Conventional routing machines use the shortest perpendicular distance from a building’s centroid to the road network for this purpose. However, in some cases, this technique leads to suboptimal results when the access to a building is not reachable from the road segment with the shortest perpendicular distance. We used open-source data — multispectral images, OpenStreetMap data, Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data — to perform a cost-distance analysis and determined the most likely access to buildings. Therefore, we assumed that the path to the building shows less vegetation cover, minimal slope of the terrain and avoids building footprints. Our results are validated based on a predetermined Ideal Snapping Area for different weightings of the parameters vegetation, slope und building footprints. We also compared our results with a conventional routing machine (Open Source Route Machine - ) that uses the perpendicular distance. The validation-rate of our approach is up to 90%, depending on the weighting of chosen parameters, whereas the conventional routing machine shows a validation-rate of 81%. The optimized snapping points can be used to determine enhanced stop locations in passenger transport to improve services such as door-to-door transportation (e.g. demand-responsive transport).</p>

Abstract: This research aims to analyze the impact of Janti Flyover Construction toward the growth of layout at Janti Urban Area, including structured space, open space, and linkage. Method used for data collecting are observation, air photograph monitoring, and interview, whereas the analysis method is qualitative description, which is the superimposed method of two layers, that are the layout condition before and after flyover construction. The result shows that the impact of Janti Flyover construction can be seen on building mass (solid), the increasing number of open spaces, including the road network, parking place, and park, whereas the relation between spaces, visually and structurally, can be seen on the growth of buildings which have new shapes and styles, therefore the performance of the overall building does not have a proportional shape. Considering Janti Street at the collective relation, its role is getting stronger as the main frame road network.Keywords: Flyover construction, layout changing, Janti AreaAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pembangunan Jalan Layang Janti terhadap perkembangan tata ruang Kawasan Janti, meliputi ruang terbangun, ruang terbuka, serta hubungan antar ruang (“linkage”). Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, pengamatan foto udara, dan wawancara; sedangkan metode analisis melalui deskripsi secara kualitatif yang berupa “superimposed method” dari dua lapisan kondisi lahan, yakni kondisi tata ruang sebelum dan sesudah pembangunan jalan layang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengaruh pembangunan Jalan Layang Janti terdapat pada massa bangunan (“solid”), pertambahan ruang terbuka yang berupa jaringan jalan, parkir, dan taman; sedangkan pada hubungan antar ruang ̶ secara visual dan struktural ̶ yakni tumbuhnya bangunan dengan bentuk dan gaya baru, sehingga bentuk tampilan bangunan secara keseluruhan tidak proporsional. Pada hubungan kolektif, Jalan Janti semakin kuat perannya sebagai kerangka utama jaringan jalan.Kata kunci : Pembangunan jalan layang, tata ruang, Kawasan Janti

The results of the study of the main elements of unobstructed space are presented and the compliance of the actual state with the regulatory requirements of measures to ensure a safe, comfortable, accessible and informative pedestrian zone of the road network is analyzed. A comparative analysis of the main regulatory requirements for access ramps on the legislation of Ukraine and the European Union is carried out.

Optimal layout of a forest road network The road network is the backbone of forest management. When creating or redesigning a forest road network, one important question is how to shape the layout, this means to fix the spatial arrangement and the dimensioning standard of the roads. We consider two kinds of layout problems. First, new forest road network in an area without any such development yet, and second, redesign of existing road network for actual requirements. For each problem situation, we will present a method that allows to detect automatically the optimal road and harvesting layout. The method aims to identify a road network that concurrently minimizes the harvesting cost, the road network cost (construction and maintenance) and the hauling cost over the entire life cycle. Ecological issues can be considered as well. The method will be presented and discussed with the help of two case studies. The main benefit of the application of optimization tools consists in an objective-based planning, which allows to check and compare different scenarios and objectives within a short time. The responses coming from the case study regions were highly positive: practitioners suggest to make those methods a standard practice and to further develop the prototype to a user-friendly expert software.
