The electron microscope has evolved to the level where it is now straightforward to record highresolution images from thin samples (t∼10 to 20nm) that are directly interpretable in terms of atomic arrangements. Whilst recorded images necessarily represent two-dimensional projections of the structure, many defects such as dislocations and interfaces may be linear or planar in nature and thus might be expected to be amenable to detailed characterization. In this review, we briefly consider the recent significant progress that has been made in quantitative defect analysis using the high-resolution electron microscope and then discuss some drawbacks to the technique as well as potential scope for further improvements. Surveys of defect modelling for some small-unit-cell materials and interfaces have recently been published, and reference should be made to other papers in this symposium for further examples.The technique of structure imaging originated in the early '70s with observations of large-unit-cell block oxides.

This study deals with the improvement of the students’ achievement in reading comprehension through advance organizer strategy. The objectives of this research were to improve the students’ achievement in reading comprehension as well as the process of learning reading comprehension by using advance organizer strategy.  The subject of the study was grade XI IPA 2 Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Binjai consisting of 33 students. The data of this study were obtained by using test, observation sheets and interview. This research was conducted in two cycles because in the pre-test (without treatment), the average of the students’ score was 59,24. In the first cycle test, it was 74,30. It is lower than the minimum passing grade, and if is viewed from the observation sheets, the situation of the learning process hasn’t met the criteria of the success. So the writer continued to the second cycle. There was a significant progress on the students’ achievement in reading comprehension in the second cycle, and the average of the students was 82,94. The students were more active and enthusiastic in following the lesson. Therefore, the teaching reading comprehension through advance organizer strategy can improve the students’ achievement in reading comprehension quantitatively and qualitatively. Abstract Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and scanning TEM (STEM) is widely used to acquire ultra high resolution images in different research areas. For some applications, a single TEM/STEM image does not provide enough information for analysis. One example in VLSI circuit failure analysis is the tracking of long interconnection. The capability of creating a large map of high resolution images may enable significant progress in some tasks. However, stitching TEM/STEM images in semiconductor applications is difficult and existing tools are unable to provide usable stitching results for analysis. In this paper, a novel fully automated method for stitching TEM/STEM image mosaics is proposed. The proposed method allows one to reach a global optimal configuration of each image tile so that both missing and false-positive correspondences can be tolerated. The experiment results presented in this paper show that the proposed method is robust and performs well in very challenging situations.

The development of the Internet and the current technologies have contributed to a significant progress in the consumer shopping process. Today, shopping decisions are more intuitive and much easier to make. E-shops, search engines, customer reviews and other similar tools reduce costs of searching for products or product information, thus boosting the habit of searching for information on the Internet - "Research Shopper Phenomenon" (Verhoef et al. 2007). According to Verhoef et al. (2015), this phenomenon leads to a phenomenon where consumers search for product information using one channel (Internet) and then make a purchase through another channel (brick-and-mortar shop). Heinrich and Thalmair (2013) refer to this effect as the "research online, purchase offline" or "ROPO" effect for short. This phenomenon can also be observed in reverse. Background: The search for the effective treatment strategies to combat a disease that is characterized by abnormal cell growth and known as cancer is still required to reach its destiny. To address the problem, recently several gene therapies based on novel RNA interference (RNAi) have been proposed such as siRNA, micro RNA, shRNA, etc. out of which, siRNAs (silencing RNA) promises to show significant progress in pharmacotherapy, including considerable expansion of the druggable target space and the possibility of treating cancer. Methods: This review aims to uncover the hyaluronic acid (HA) and HA-hybridized nanoplatforms for siRNA delivery systems with a particular focus on the discussion of available reports while addressing the future potential of HA-based treatment strategies. Results: HA modified siRNA delivery, as promised, provided better targeting potential in many types of cancers. In addition, it was able to modify the release of siRNA as well. Toxicity of HA is well mentioned however, the loophole is yet to be filled by exploring various remedies for overcoming toxicity. Conclusion: To overcome the problems associated with these emerging genetic tools, investigators have employed glycosaminoglycan HA-based biopolymers. This biopolymer offers a variety of properties such as biodegradability, biocompatibility, aqueous solubility, viscoelasticity, and non-immunogenicity.

: Colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CAC) remains a critical complication of ulcerative colitis (UC) with mortality of approximately 15%, which makes early CAC diagnosis crucial. The current standard of surveillance, with repetitive colonoscopies and histological testing of biopsied mucosa samples is burdensome and expensive, and therefore less invasive methods and reliable biomarkers are needed. Significant progress has been made thanks to continuous extensive research in this field, however no clinically relevant biomarker has been established so far. This review of the current literature presents the genetic and molecular differences between CAC and sporadic colorectal cancer and covers progress made in the early detection of CAC carcinogenesis. It focuses on biomarkers under development, which can be easily tested in samples of body fluids or breath and, once made clinically available, will help to differentiate between progressors (UC patients who will develop dysplasia) from non-progressors and enable early intervention to decrease the risk of cancer development.

The European Union’s neighbourhood is complex and still far from being stable. In Ukraine, significant progress has occurred in many areas of transition; however, much work remains to be done, especially in the field of regional development and governance where many legacies of the Soviet model remain. At the crossroads between East and West, Ukraine presents an interesting case of policy development as an expression of European Union (EU) external governance. This paper asks the question: why was the relationship between the EU and Ukraine fairly unsuccessful at promoting stability in the region and in Ukraine? What was missing in the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) in Ukraine that rendered the EU unable to prevent a conflict on the ground? By identifying security, territorial, and institutional challenges and opportunities the EU has faced in Ukraine, this paper underlines the most important factors accounting for the performance of its external governance and crisis management in Ukraine.   Full text available at: https://doi.org/10.22215/rera.v12i2.1310

In Africa, roads are the dominant mode of passenger and freight transport, for which the need is growing rapidly. It is noticeable that most of the African countries do not do enough to ensure the sustainability of road infrastructure as it has been widely reported that roads are affected, to varying degrees, by premature deterioration. Most of the African countries have adopted institutional reforms, notably entailing the creation of road funds and road agencies, and made significant progress on road maintenance. However, many challenges remain to be addressed in all of them to ensure appropriate maintenance. Although spending on road maintenance has increased over time in all African countries it remains insufficient to cover the needs. Poorly maintained roads constrain mobility, significantly raise vehicle operating costs, increase accident rates and their associated human and property costs, and aggravate isolation, poverty, poor health, and illiteracy in rural communities. This paper focuses, in particular, on road maintenance in some African countries considering types of road maintenance and the different approaches aiming at a comparison to reflect on similarities and differences.

Despite significant progress in conformational analysis of cyclic molecules, the number of computational studies is still limited while most of that available in the literature data have been obtained long time ago with outdated methods. In present research, we have studied temperature driven conformational changes of the furan ring at three different temperatures. Additionally, the effect of deuteration on the ring dynamics is discussed; in addition, the aromaticity indices following the Bird and HOMA schemes are computed along all trajectories. Our ab initio molecular dynamic simulations revealed that deuteration has changed the furan ring dynamics and the obvious consequences; in addition, the shape and size of molecule are expected to be different.
