Abstract Objective: To explore self-reported experience for different outpatient modes in tinnitus patients. Methods: A observational study design was adopted. Tinnitus outpatients from the otological medicine and routine otolaryngology of our hospital fulfilling the study criteria were enrolled between October 2018 and January 2020. They were examined by semi-structured interview questionnaire. Groups were formed according to the different outpatient modes. The data were analyzed with SPSS 23.0.Results: 193 questionnaires were included; 118 questionnaires of otological medicine outpatients, 75 questionnaires of otolaryngology outpatients. Nearly half of the otological medicine patients (48.3%) said that they communicated for 5–10 minutes with their doctor and a routine otolaryngology outpatient service usually takes 3–5 minutes (61.3%). However, most patients expected a longer time. Patient satisfaction and return visit rate of otological medicine (95.5% and 43.9%) were better than routine otolaryngology (77.3% and 7.1%). The main factors of efficacy considered physician interpretation and guidance. Conclusion: Both outpatient models can give patients a more satisfactory experience. Specialized outpatient service can better fit the shared decision making model, conducive to the rehabilitation and management of tinnitus. However, the long-term follow-up and management of patients still need to be scrutinized and improved continuously.

PurposeTo report on architect reactions to the use of non‐prescriptive design and construction briefs in the delivery of private prison projects in Australia.Design/methodology/approachThe introduction of the private prison projects in Australia saw the introduction of alternative delivery methods, such as Design‐Construct, for the delivery of prison facilities. The resulting design brief, forwarded as the “Request for Proposal”, was typically a non‐prescriptive document. Those architects who participated in such private prison design projects were interviewed using a semi‐structured interview questionnaire. Beliefs regarding the use of such briefs were gauged from the interview data.FindingsThe interviews revealed conflicting beliefs regarding the usefulness and appropriateness of the design brief. The responses were divided between a minority who found the briefs adequate, owing principally to the belief that it facilitated innovation. However, the majority considered the briefs as inadequate for prison construction. They believed that it allowed for manipulation by contractors, and that it compromised the design process and the integrity of the facility. As architects question the suitability of such design briefs for the delivery of prison facilities, the paper highlights the advantages and limitations in using prescriptive and non‐prescriptive prison design briefs.Originality/valueThis paper fulfils a need for data regarding the role of design briefs in prison design and construction. It offers a valuable comparison of the diverse approaches that can be taken, and the impacts this has upon how architects operate in prison projects.

Surgery is considered a stressful experience for children because of their unfamiliarity with the environment and medical procedures. Anxiety interferes with anesthesia induction and results in many complications. Comic stories produce cognitive control by developing realistic expectations and correcting misperceptions and misbeliefs. This study aimed to assess the effect of an educational comic story about preoperative orientation on the information and anxiety levels of children undergoing surgery. A quasi-experimental design was used. The study was conducted at Mansoura University Children’s Hospital, Egypt. A structured interview questionnaire, self-report anxiety scale, and an observational behavioral scale were used for data collection. The results revealed highly statistically significant differences in information, self-reported anxiety, and observed anxiety between the pre and post-tests ( p = .000). Moreover, a negative linear correlation between children’s preoperative anxiety and information level was demonstrated.

This research project investigated how openness and sharing of knowledge are manifested through scholarly blogging. We aimed to identify the academics’ and researchers’ motivations for starting a blog; the contribution of blogging to their personal and professional development; and any challenges. Twenty-six participants were recruited. A pre-interview questionnaire was first emailed to the participants to collect background information. An initial unstructured interview was conducted by email, followed by a synchronous semi-structured interview. Textual and visual extracts of blog content were also collected. The datasets were analysed using different techniques. The findings revealed varied reasons for blogging. Some academics/researchers began a blog for its accessibility to self and others. Blogging aided the academics’ and researchers’ personal and professional development in several ways. Bloggers can quickly reach a wider audience compared to other forms of academic publishing. Among the challenges, there were concerns over validity of online content. Based on previous scholarship models and on our findings, we have derived an empirically grounded framework of blog use in academia and research. The framework describes how characteristics of digital scholarship such as openness and sharing are manifested through blogging. The framework can be used to guide academics and researchers who are interested in taking up blogging as a scholarly practice. Keywords: academic blogging; research blogging; openness; digital scholarship; open scholarship(Published: 30 August 2012)http://dx.doi.org/10.3402/rlt.v20i0.19195

Researching Content and Language Integrated learning (CLIL) is unique since the focus is not only in English as instructional language but we have to consider the content as another side of the coin. Both aspects must be balance. This study aimed exploring the integration of content knowledge and English competence in English proficiency assessment and also the effectiveness of the integration to measure students’ English proficiency. This study used Combined study (Creswell, 2012). The participants of this study were 3 primary schools under the name of International Class Program in East java Indonesia. The data were gathered through semi-structured interview, questionnaire and test, i.e. pre-and-post-test. The qualitative data were analyzed descriptively; and the quantitative data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test formula. The results revealed that integrating content knowledge and English competences in assessing English proficiency is feasible and applicable. Furthermore, it has been statistically proven that it is effective integrating content knowledge and English competences in assessing CLIL by indicated the raise of students’ English proficiency. This study implies that integrating both aspects in CLIL has great influence in students’ English assessment and this should be taken into account by the related parties.

The principal aim of this study is to evaluate the perception of the students and teachers involved in the mediation team at a secondary school in Madrid, specifically, in terms of its performance. To conduct this research study, we have used a qualitative research method. Firstly, to evaluate the teachers’ perception, we designed a semi-structured interview questionnaire to gather their opinions about their participation in the mediation team. In addition, we created two focus groups; one with students and another with teachers. The results demonstrate a high degree of teacher and student satisfaction towards the implementation of the mediation program. The students’ perception after participating in the mediation program suggests that this type of experience helps to improve their personal and social skills. Our research also demonstrates the importance attached to the selection of the mediator students, as well as the relevance of the management team for setting these types of programs in motion.
