The aim of this study was to investigate the experiences which impact on aspects of the lives and sense of well-being of elderly people in a township in South Africa in order to make recommendations for future service delivery. A cross- sectional, qualitative survey was carried out in Mfuleni Township, a part of the Cape Metropolitan Region in the Western Cape. Sixteen people of ages ranging from 60-82 years were conveniently selected from a group of elderly people who meet regularly at a community centre. Data were collected through focused group discussions and unstructured interviews. Analysis of data revealed three main categories namely, psychological/ emotional, socio-economic and health, under which different themes emerged. The experiences of individuals in a given society may vary, but somehow, their basic rights tend to be universal as revealed by the literature. Loneliness and isolation, lack of recreation facilities, loss of dignity and respect, poor health services and lack of shelter are some of the experiences expressed by the elderly people in this sample. These experiences highlight the need for clearly stated policies andcommitment by governmental and non-governmental structures, appropriate health service strategies and improved socio-economic standards supported by properly researched data.

Abstract. The quality of urban life has become one of the most pertinent issues in contemporary times in India. There have been several reports published by government and nongovernmental agencies listing out various dimensions of quality of urban life but in a half-hearted manner as some reports have focused just upon the quality of urban air or some governmental reports talk about Human Development Index. There has hardly been any holistic effort to scale the quality of urban life in terms of economic, social, cultural, environmental and psychological well-being. Unless all these parameters are combined, one cannot furnish the livability index of micro urban spaces within major metropolitan regions. The calculation of livability index thus needs to take into account environmental, socio-economic and mental dimensions. The environment related data has been achieved by extracting NDVI through LANDSAT satellite imagery for the month of May, 2018. NDVI has been used for calculating green spaces index. The data related to socio-economic parameters have been collected through primary and secondary sources of data. The data related to psychological health is gathered through questionnaire survey and personal interviews. Ranking based index calculation has been applied to arrive at a common livability index of select sub spaces in Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The outcomes are very interesting and helpful in comparative analysis of select sub-spaces vis-à-vis quality of life. It has also helped in the identification of stressed sub-regional or micro spaces. Such livability index will be highly useful in regional and urban planning. The research aims at calculating livability index for select sub-regional spaces in Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

This article seeks to identify the levels of well-being of residents of Selangor Northern Corridor, Lembah Klang-Langat Extended Metropolitan Region (EMR). The study involved 400 respondents consisting of the heads of household in peri-urban areas of Selangor Northern Corridor of Lembah Klang-Langat EMR. Respondents were selected via a simple random sampling method. A 1-5 Likert scale questionnaire was used as a research instrument. Based on the well-being index, a variety of variables involving well-being were listed, although the author of this study used four variables, namely housing, transportation, socioeconomic environment and land use. The housing variable consisted of three sub-variables, comprising area selection, safety and facilities. The transport variable included two sub-variables: public transportation and transportation network. The socioeconomic variables society and economy, while the sub-variables for land use were types of activities and property ownership. The study results indicate that the questionnaire’s reliability level was acceptable as the Cronbach’s alpha value of each variable exceeded 0.8. Transportation and socioeconomic environment stood at high levels, while housing and land use were at moderate levels. These findings demonstrate that the level of some of the community’s well-being was high or moderate due to urban sprawl. This means that humans will adapt to the environment in various ways so that it can accord with human needs.

A aplicação dos instrumentos Medida Canadense de Desempenho Ocupacional e Score for Assessment and Quantification of Chronic Rheumatic Affections of the Hands apontaram desde manutenções a diminuições das queixas de dificuldade de mobilidade funcional manual. Os atendimentos em grupo promoveram reabilitação funcional manual, a construção de um espaço de bem-estar, interação social e educação em saúde. Abstract: This practice analysis discusses experiences of occupational therapeutic interventions with a group of six patients with rheumatological diseases, at a referral University Hospital of the Recife Metropolitan Region, between April and May 2019, totaling eight artisan workshops meetings. Ferguson, Missouri, has been characterized as an archetype of structural inequality and segregation. Several questions guide this investigation of Ferguson and its surrounding region. How did policies, practices, and folkways help to create the conditions in Ferguson and the broader metropolitan region? The regional segregation regime’s history provides a background to better understand current conditions. What is the existing state of affairs for young persons and their families in the region? To address this question, social epidemiological methods and geospatial analysis inform the development of a set of visuals to determine if racial segregation, economic opportunity, health and developmental outcomes, and education-related outcomes are spatially arranged. The authors found that these indicators of well-being are spatially arranged and concentrated; thus, they raise another question: How does a politically fragmented region intervene to disrupt concentrated disadvantage? As Ferguson and the region seek social and education reform, the final section offers several recommendations to improve education outcomes through broader economic strategy and social policy.

This research aimed to learn about the happiness perception of men with violent behavior, attended by a nucleus of assistance to victims of violence in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. For this, 16 men with restraining orders for assaulting their partners (Lei Maria da Penha - 11.340/2006) were interviewed. This study involved descriptive research (qualitative approach), and data were analyzed using thematic content analysis. For the discussion, three subcategories related to Subjective Well-Being were organized into: conception of happiness, challenges in being happy, and attitudes required in being happy. The word "family" was referenced by abusers in all subcategories. When it comes to involving violence between intimate partners, this new approach intends to make men a part of the solution rather than just the problem.

Abstract. Urban forests are crucial for the population well-being and improvement of the quality of life. For example, they contribute to the rain damping and to the improvement of the local climate. Therefore a correct and accurate mapping of this resource is fundamental for its correct management. We investigated a method that combines machine learning and SLIC superpixel techniques using different Superpixels (k) number to map trees in the metropolitan region of the municipality of Campo Grande-MS, Brazil with aerial orthoimages with GSD (Ground Sample Distance) of 10 cm. The combination of superpixels and machine learning algorithms were checked out with a set of weka classifiers and achieved good results i.e. F-1 %98.2, MCC %88.4 and Accuracy of %96.8, supporting that this method is efficient when used for urban trees mapping.
