Relevance. In the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the ocular surface, in order to achieve high efficiency in the shortest possible time, it is necessary for the therapy to be comprehensive. Today, in addition to traditional treatment methods, new technologies based on the use of low-energy lasers, which have high biological activity, are spreading. Aim. To improve the treatment results of the inflammatory diseases of the ocular surface by implementing photodynamic therapy (PDT) in experiment and clinic, using domestic equipment and elaborating optimal energetic parameters of laser irradiation. Methods. Objects of research: 130 nonlinear sexually mature rats weighing 150 grams contained in standard vivarium conditions and 110 eyes of patients with inflammatory eye diseases. Carrying out the investigation, experiments on animals, clinical and functional examination results of patients, and statistical analysis were taken into consideration. Results. A methodology for complex treatment of inflammatory diseases of the ocular surface was developed (with inclusion of PDT by the laser therapy device Vostok), based on experimental data and confirmed by clinical and functional ocular indices. PDT helps to increase the effectiveness of treatment, which is manifested by accelerated tissue regeneration, restoration of corneal transparency, increase of visual function in 86.7%, and reduction of treatment terms to 6 days. Conclusions. Anti-inflammatory and regenerative effectiveness of the proposed complex treatment of inflammatory diseases of the ocular surface with the PDT use was established: improvement in the clinical picture of conjunctivitis and keratitis was revealed, manifested by increase in corneal epithelization.

Background. The treatment of phlegmon of the maxillofacial area and neck at the present moment remains difficult and insufficiently effective. Aim. To develop a method of using photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of phlegmon of the maxillofacial area and neck and to evaluate its effectiveness. Material and methods. A total of 92 patients with phlegmons of the maxillofacial area and neck were under observation. They were divided into 3 groups: group 1 – “control group 1” (30 patients) – where traditional treatment was used, group 2 – “control group 2” (30 patients) – in which low-intensity laser radiation was used in addition to topical treatment and group 3 – “experimental” (32 patients) – where PDT was used for topical treatment. Results. The data of clinical, cytological and bacteriological studies show that the local application of PDT has an anti-inflammatory effect and stimulates the reparative processes in the wound, and shortens the treatment period for patients. Conclusion. PDT improves the results of complex treatment of patients with phlegmons of the maxillofacial area and neck. Its application leads to the purification of a purulent wound on the 3rd (3;4) day, allows to apply secondary sutures on the 7th day and to shorten the period of inpatient treatment in comparison with the control groups from 3 to 9 days.

The active implementation of sylvinite therapy in modern medical practice and appearance of new modifications of salt devices gave occasion to widening of area of application of this curative method. It is proposed to apply sylvinite physiotherapy room in complex treatment of chronic catarrhal pharyngitis as a most wide-spread disease of ENT-organs presented in all age groups and especially in persons of young age. The inner environment of facility was evaluated by hygienic methods. The levels of such curative factors impacting patients as aeroionization, multi-component fine-dispersed dry salt aerosol, stable micro-climate was within therapeutically significant limits. The in-depth microbiological analysis of inner environment of the given facility that substantiated availability of bacterio-static effect of mineral sylvinite on bacterial culture S.aureus and high efficiency of functioning of physiotherapy facility. The clinical studies covered 52 patients with chronic catarrhal pharyngitis: 27 - observation group (common treatment+syvinite therapy) and 25 - comparison group (common therapy only). In the result of applied treatment all patients achieved amelioration of health condition and local immunity of mucous membrane of throat. However, in the comparison group positive dynamics was less expressed. The obtained results confirmed possibility of application of characteristics of natural mineral sylvinite in complex treatment of chronic catarrhal pharyngitis and other inflammatory diseases of ENT-organs.

Despite the successes achieved in the diagnosis and treatment, to date, the problem of chronic progression in patients with benign hyperplasia of the growth continues to remain relevant. Meanwhile, recovery or persistent remission of chronic prostatitis occurs only in 30-35% of patients who receive traditional treatment. In the pathogenesis of chronic prostatitis, membrane-pathological processes take an important place, which are caused by the activation of lipid peroxidation and impaired state of the antioxidant defense system. In patients with chronic prostate and benign hyperplasia, a significant increase in lipoperoxidation processes is observed against the background of a reduced functional ability of antioxidant defense systems. Therefore, the equilibrium in the oxidant-antioxidant system is an important link in the maintenance of homeostasis and, in particular, with the pathology of the prostate gland, allows the inclusion of antioxidant drugs in the complex treatment. The use of drugs with a high content of bioflavonoids and antioxidant vitamins can be considered promising. The inclusion of such patients in the complex treatment of the drug Quercetin leads to a reduction in the normalization period of the clinical and laboratory manifestations of the disease due to the restoration of the equilibrium between the peroxidation of the lipid peroxidation system and the state of lipid peroxidation

A complex treatment of a patient with acute amitriptyline and cyclodol poisoning using enterosorption, intestinal lavage and hemosorption on a new column with a synthetic sorbent is presented. A two-layer synthetic polymer column developed for the selective sorption of cytokines by direct hemoperfusion was used for hemosorption. Quantitative determinations of amitriptyline and cyclodol levels before and after the column, as well as before and after hemosorption have showed high efficiency of the sorbent to remove the toxicant from the blood. The use of 6-hour hemosorption allowed to reduce the level of amitriptyline from the initial level by more than 4 times and the level of cyclodol - by more than 3 times to therapeutic levels and to obtain a pronounced positive clinical effect in the complex treatment of a patient with severe poisoning.

Cancer cell multidrug resistance (MDR) is one of the most significant barriers to chemotherapy patients' ability to treat malignant tumors. This review first discusses the basic processes of MDR and then details the newest usage of nanomaterials combining multiple therapeutic approaches (e.g. PDT, PTT, gas therapy, gene therapy, and CDT) with MDR chemotherapy. We also analyze the advantages and rationales of these combination systems and why they can reduce MDR cancer cells. Currently, together with various new treatment approaches, MDR-related chemotherapeutic research is gaining momentum in search of better therapeutic results. PDT, for example, has the ability to eliminate high-efficiency multidrug-resistant malignancies but has limited relevance to tumor treatment. In this perspective, SDT is a highly promising approach as it increases ROS production utilizing ultrasonic vibrations, allowing magnitude orders to reach deeper than light. PTT is also often criticized for NIR light's restricted penetration depth; thermomagnetic therapy, using magnetic fields to produce local tissue hyperthermia, can considerably alleviate this problem. However, current research on the possibilities of using these new technologies to fight MDR remains rather rare, and more combination strategies should be carefully investigated in the future. Moreover, ongoing discoveries of cell death pathways, highlighted by recent ferroptosis findings, present a new strategy for our battle against MDR and may revolutionize our knowledge of MDR formation. Ferroptotic cell death promises to treat MDR in various cancers. While most of this cutting-edge research is still in its infancy, we anticipate gaining a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of these revolutionary anti-MDR medicines in the near future.

Due to the consideration of fragile security, and longer check-in times and inconveniences due to increased air travel security examination since September 11th 2001, more and more people have turn to ground transportation. Unfortunately, the inefficient, environment-unfriendly and unsafe passenger cars and buses are the only choices available for middle distance trips. Development of high efficiency, clean and high speed railroad passenger transportation system has become more necessary to overcome this weak link. In this paper, the applicability of hybrid drive train technologies for middle-distance passenger train locomotives will be investigated. A systematic design of the diesel based hybrid locomotive helps to increase efficiency, improve fuel economy, reduce emissions and also reduce mass production costs. Furthermore, professional management and maintenance of railroad train locomotives make such new technologies more practical than for road vehicles. The success of such transportation system will have a great positive impact on our social activities, quality of life, energy supply, environment and economy. A diesel based hybrid electric locomotive (HEL) with batteries or an ultracapacitor is an option to reduce fuel consumption and emissions and provide better performance and fuel economy. The reduced fuel consumption helps reduce the amount of pollutants released. Engineering estimation indicate that emissions will be reduced by 70% and fuel efficiency will be increased by at least 30% in hybrid locomotives.

Modern corneal refractive surgery provides high efficiency, safety, predictability and stability of the different ametropia kinds correction’s clinically-functional results. However, in overwhelming percentage of cases, having spent some time after surgery patients complain about discomfort, eyes dryness, burning, feel gritty, redness, blurred and vision instability. Complaints mentioned above are caused by the appearance of transitory dry eye syndrome. Main etiology and pathogenesis factors of this disease are presented in this review. The results of dry eye syndrome classical diagnosis methods have been analyzed, as well as modern techniques, characterized by high specificity and sensitivity, which allow to increase the dry eye’s diagnostics accuracy. The study of the dry syndrome after corneal refractive surgery is devoted to a huge number of works of domestic and foreign authors. However, at present time there is no unique algorithm for assessing the damage of the ocular surface before and after corneal refractive surgery, which would include a set of high-precision and specific techniques for quickly and reliably evaluate the severity of dry eye syndrome, allowing to develop preventive measures and pathogenetically oriented treatment and, thereby, accelerate rehabilitation of patients after surgery. Research continuation is needed in this direction.
