Aim. To comparatively characterize the state of local and general immunity in patients with the primary diagnosis of albinism and oral mucosal diseases. Methods. In the dental clinic of FSBEI HE «Kazan SMU MOH Russia» 4 patients aged 16 to 17 years are observed with the primary diagnosis of albinism and comorbid oral mucosal diseases. On initial examination 2 patients from group 1 were diagnosed with chronic recurrent aphthous stomatitis, Sutton’s disease. K12.1. The control group (group 2) included 5 children aged 12 to 15 years diagnosed with chronic recurrent aphthous stomatitis. The state of local immunity was assessed by the level of lysozyme of the oral fluid before and after the treatment. Lysozyme activity in the oral fluid was evaluated and calculated by our newly developed method. The state of local immunity was assessed by immunograms. Patients’ microbiologic status was evaluated by microscopic and bacteriological methods. Results. Among the patients from group 1 with the diagnosis of chronic recurrent aphthous stomatitis, Sutton’s disease, the analysis of immunograms prior to the study revealed severe neutropenia (5.4±0.4×109/l), lymphocytosis (Т-lymphocytes 85±3.5%), leukopenia (2.2±0.1×109/l), increased level of immunoglobulin A (2.69±0.1 g/l), decreased number of phagocytes (2.6) and circulating immune complexes (22±1.48). In patients from the control group leukopenia (2.89±0.23×109/l), lymphocytosis (Т-lymphocytes 74.3±1.32%), insignificant increase of immunoglobulin G level (14.5±0.59 g/l), decreased number of phagocytes (4.5±0.5) and circulating immune complexes (38.67±1.23), and neutropenia (25.5±0.1×109/l) were revealed. Conclusion. Cellular component of the general immunity in albinos insignificantly differs from the patients of the control group but no restoration of the cellular immunity occurs even in long-term remission; to choose the method of treatment for patients diagnosed with chronic recurrent aphthous stomatitis it is necessary to determine the etiology of the disease, particularly, immunologic status of patients before and after the treatment.

Aim: to study the state of local immunity and oral hygiene in patients with GP suffering from AN.Materials and methods: 35 patients with AN were examined at the age of 19-35 years. In the study we used immunological methods, an index assessment of the state of oral hygiene (PMA, API, GI).Results and discussion: in patients of I group poor oral hygiene was established. The amount of lysozyme in the oral fluid in I group was 0.014 ± 0.07 g/l. A decrease SIgA (11SIgA) was established in patients of I group: I, II and control (135.31 ± 23.17, 130.26 ± 24.21 and 300.34 ± 27.38 mg/l, respectively). A tendency to an increase in the level of IgG in the oral fluid in patients of group II compared with I and the control group (5.35 ± 0.36, vs. 4.57 ± 0.04 and 4.98 ± 0.23 g/l, respectively) was established. Conclusions: poor oral hygiene is an objective indicator which reflects low motivation to maintain oral health. The observed immunodeficiency (11SIgA) in patients with GP is a mirror image of changes occurring in the body of patients with AN.

The results of the treatment of women (n = 94) suffering from genital endometriosis are presented. The first (control, n = 30) group of women received standard drug therapy; the second (main, n = 64) group of women additionally had hirudotherapy procedures using medical leeches. The course of treatment consisted of 10–12 procedures. The state of cerebral circulation was assessed according to the rheoencephalography data before and after the treatment, as well as after 1, 3, 6, and 9 months. As a result, in patients in the 2-nd (main) group receiving complex treatment, the state of cerebral circulation improved signifi cantly. Moreover, according to the statistical regression analysis, it was possible to predict its further decrease by two periods ahead, compared with the treatment results in patients in the 1-st (control) group.

It is known that children with congenital cleft lip and palate are suffering from recurrent respiratory infections, which worsen the state of their health, and also complicate the results of reconstructive surgical treatment. The aim of the study was to detect defects of mucosal immunity in children with congenital cleft lip and palate, suffering from recurrent respiratory infections, and to create the program of local interferon corrective therapy with an assessment of its effectiveness. The studies included 56 children from the age of 1 to 3 years. Three groups of children were formed: group 1 – 26 children with congenital cleft lip and palate (antibiotic therapy); group 2 — 30 children with congenital cleft lip and palate (antibiotic therapy + local interferon therapy), group 3 — the control group. The clinical examination included a medical history, an assessment of the symptoms of recurrent episodes of acute respiratory infections and exacerbations of chronic infections. Microbiological studies were performed using standard methods. The status of local immunity was detected: the concentrations of secretory IgA, cytokines IL-17, IL-4, IL-6, IL-1β, IFNγ in the oral fluid were tested by ELISA. Results of the study established that in group 1 and group 2 clinical criteria of immunodeficiency with an infectious syndrome were revealed: repeated acute respiratory viral infections from 10 or more times a year, complicated by frequent exacerbations of chronic bacterial infection (up to 10 or more per year). Assessment of the state of local immunity in children with congenital cleft lip and palate revealed a lack of sIgA compared with the control group. Before treatment in group 2 oral fluid level of IL-17, IL-6 were statistically significant increase (p < 0.05); the results of the study also established increase in the level of IL-1β and a decrease in anti-inflammatory IL-4 and regulatory IFNγ relative to the control group (p > 0.05). After complex treatment with the inclusion of local interferon therapy in group 2 the appearance of sIgA, increase in the concentration of IL-4, IL-1β and a decrease IL-17 in oral fluid were observed (p > 0.05). The concentrations of IL-6, IFNγ did not change (p > 0.05). After treatment in group 2 there were a decrease in exacerbations of chronic upper respiratory tract infection and in frequency of acute respiratory viral infections compared with group 1 (p < 0.05). Positive clinical efficacy of local interferon therapy (the gel of recombinant IFNα2b in combination with oxidants — Viferon gel) in the process of staged rehabilitation of children with congenital cleft lip and palate has a protective clinical effect in reducing the frequency of acute respiratory viral infections, reducing the number of postoperative complications, reducing hospital stay, duration of antibacterial therapy and the number of exacerbations of chronic bacterial infection.

Abstract The purpose of the study was twofold: Experiment 1 tested the possibility that the mere recollection of food aroused a state of hunger and that different types of food influenced the state of hunger differently; Experiment 2 tested the possibility that food cues affected altruistic behavior. In Experiment 1, 28 participants reported how hungry they felt before and after their recollection of certain foods (noodles and pudding). Results suggest that recollection of food increased hunger and that the type of food influenced the degree of hunger (F(2,54) = 31.88, p < .001, η2 = .54). In Experiment 2, 63 participants were randomly assigned to one of three recollection conditions: (1) noodles, (2) pudding, and (3) control. Participants in the two conditions described each food in detail; control group participants did not. Participants were then asked how much they would be willing to participate in an ostensible experiment. Results indicate that recollection-induced hunger reduced altruistic behavior (F(2, 60) = 4.11, p = .021, η2 = .12). Cue reactivity theory and the hierarchy of needs could explain these results.

Objectives: Dysregulation of the immune response appears to play a significant role in recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) development. The main objective of this case–control study is to investigate the blood levels of mannose-binding lectin (MBL) and the frequency of the MBL2 gene (gly54asp) polymorphism in RAS patients, including 40 RAS patients and 40 healthy controls. Methods: Serum MBL levels were determined by ELISA, while the PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism was used in MBL2 genotyping. Results: The median serum MBL level was significantly lower in the RAS group than in the control group (975 ng/mL (545–1320) vs. 1760 ng/mL (1254–2134); p≤ 0.001). The MBL levels were significantly lower in the BB genotype, whereas they were significantly higher in the wild type AA with a median of 525 and 1340 ng/mL, respectively ( p =0.005). The B allele was expressed in significantly higher percentages of RAS patients than in controls. There was no significant association between MBL serum levels ( p=0.685) or MBL2 codon 54 genotypes ( p=0.382) with the type of ulcers. Conclusion: There was an association between low MBL serum levels and the variant allele B of the MBL2 (gly54asp) gene, and the susceptibility to RAS. As a result, potential novel therapeutic options for RAS patients with MBL deficiency should be investigated.

Background: Footwork training is important in coaching basic movements in badminton. This research aims to learn about the influence of footwork training on improving leg muscles strength. Methods: The study used a randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The participants consisted of 42 male badminton players of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha, Bali, Indonesia, who split into two groups of footwork training (ten repetitions two sets (group 1) and five repetitions with four sets (group 2)). The coach gave the footwork exercise three times per week for 6 weeks to each group and measured the leg muscle strength using the dynamometer test. Results: The result of the within-group paired T-test before and after the training shows group 1 and group 2 (p<0.05). For group 1, the mean of leg muscle strength was 114.19±33.13 kg before the training and 183.19±33.56 kg after the training, with an increase of 60% (69 kg). On the other hand, for group 2, the mean score of leg muscle strength before the training was 113.05±31.30 kg and after the training was 141.10±34.91, with an increase of 25% (28 kg). The leg muscle strength difference between the groups before and after the training was tested using the independent T-test with a significant α=0.05. Comparing the differences of leg muscle strength for both the groups before the training was p= 0.90, and after the training was p=0.00. Conclusion: The conclusion is training badminton footwork ten repetition two sets better than five repetitions four sets to improve leg muscle strength.

Introduction: Oral fluid cytokine levels can vary considerably during the onset of Inflammatory Periodontitis (IP) especially in people with hepatitis C virus (HCV), hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Aim of our study was to evaluate levels of oral cytokines during the onset of IP among HCV, HBV and HIV negative and positive individuals in order to evaluate local immunity state during these infections. Methodology: This was a case control study with 3 groups of virally infected individuals and control group. All had IP including control group. Results: 45 patients (51.7%) had HCV, 18 (20.7%) HBV and 24 (27.6%) HIV. For IL-2 we received significant difference for all groups compared with control -2.83; HBV-31.1 (p < 0.001), HCV-25.99 (p < 0.001) and HIV-24.57 (p < 0.001). For IL-10 significant difference was observed between control -0.94 and HCV-3.63 (p = 0.027), HBV-8.38 (15.51) groups (p < 0.001). IL-4 was significantly higher in control group 14.29 compared to HCV 0.2 (p < 0.001) and HIV 0.21 (p = 0.037) group. The adjusted analysis where we consider age as possible confounder revealed that only IL-2 significantly differs for all groups compared with control group: control vs HCV (p = 0.001); control vs HBV (p = 0.024); control vs HIV (p = 0.004). Conclusions: Evidence for significant differences when comparing oral fluid cytokines of individuals with HCV, HBV and HIV with non-viral individuals was more obvious for IL-2. IL-2 levels were significantly higher in all 3 groups vs non-viral group even when age is confounder.

ABSTRACT Objective: The present study aimed at comparing the external lateral root resorption (ELRR) and external apical root resorption (EARR) between teeth moved through the atrophic edentulous ridge and those undergoing the usual orthodontic movement. Methods: Fifty-four premolars were evaluated, where 27 of them had been moved toward the edentulous ridge (Group 1) and 27 from the same patient, had not been translated, which comprised the control group (Group 2). ELRR was evaluated by 0-3 scores and EARR was evaluated by 0-4 scores, before and after movement. Measurements were compared by Kruskal-Wallis and Student-Newman-Keuls tests. Results: ELRR increased statistically only in the Group 1 (p< 0.05). After orthodontic treatment, it was observed that almost 56% (n = 15) of teeth in Group 1 presented scores 2 and 3, while Group 2 presented scores 2 and 3 in about 11% (n= 3) of the teeth. EARR increased in both groups after orthodontic movement, however, statistically analyses showed no significant differences between groups (p> 0.05). Conclusions: Orthodontic movement into the atrophic edentulous ridge is subject to a greater lateral external root resorption.
