The purpose of the study is to measure the creativity of students at Riga Technical University on a linear scale of self-estimation. Self-estimation of students' creativity is assessed on the basis of indicators that are points of the corresponding questionnaire. The novelty of the study is that self-esteem of creativity is considered as a latent variable, which, in the framework of the theory of latent variables, is measured on a linear scale. In the framework of this theory, based on the Rasch model, an analysis of the quality of the questionnaire as a measuring tool is carried out. Three-way analysis of variance showed that the self-estimation of creativity of students of the Architectural faculty is statistically significantly higher than the self-esteem of creativity of students of the Construction faculty. The factors of students’ “gender” and “course” were noted as statistically insignificant. The results of the study should be used to analyse the quality of the educational process.

The quality of the questionnaire as a measuring tool largely determines the relevance of the results. The aim of the work is to analyze the quality of the questionnaire as a measuring tool used to evaluate the latent variable "leadership qualities of students". The study was conducted within the framework of the theory of measurement of latent variables, which has important advantages. First of all, the latent variable is determined operationally, through a set of indicators (questionnaire items), the more indicators, the higher the accuracy of the latent variable measurement. The latent variable and indicators are measured on the same interval scale in logits. This allows the use of a wide range of statistical procedures for the analysis of measurement results. The analysis of the following aspects of the quality of the questionnaire as a measuring tool: the presence of extreme indicators in the test, the compatibility of a set of indicators, the compliance of the questionnaire to the level of students on the measured latent variable, the uniformity of the distribution of indicators on the interval scale. The indicators that differentiate students with high and low levels of leadership qualities better than others are highlighted. Recommendations on the adjustment of the questionnaire as a measuring tool for assessing the leadership qualities of students are given.

The relevance of the work is based on internal and external causes. Internal reasons consist of the fundamental transformation and revaluation of values occurring in Russia. Patriotism is the foundation of responsibility for the preservation of spiritual values and the power of the country. External causes are the need to counter terrorism and conflicts in the world. The goal of the study is to measure the level of patriotism of students according to their gender, course, and department of the branch of Kuban State University in Slavyansk-on-Kuban. To accomplish this goal, it is necessary to assess the quality of the questionnaire as a measuring tool and measure the level of patriotism of students on a linear scale. The theory of latent variables is used as the method of research, allowing to measure the level of patriotism on a linear scale.

A study of quality of life in 153 patients with a primary episode of bipolar aff ective disorder found a signifi cantly lower quality of life score in women in individual areas and in general, these differences were most pronounced in manic and depressive variant of primary episode of bipolar affective disorder. The clinical variant of primary episode of BD had a decisive influence on the self-esteem of quality of life in patients: patients with the depressive variant had low quality of life indicators, with manic — high, and with mixed — medium ones. When comparing quality of life self-assessment data, a tendency was found for the quality of life to decrease in all key areas in the depressive variant, and a tendency for overestimation — in the manic one. In the mixed version, the self-esteem indicators of quality of life did not have significant differences from the qualification score by a specialist psychiatrist. The identifi ed patterns should be taken into account when determining treatment and rehabilitation measures. Keywords: bipolar affective disorder, primary episode, quality of life

Both mainstream and disability bioethics sometimes contend that the self-assessment of disabled people about their own well-being is distorted by adaptive preferences that are only held because other, better options are unavailable. I will argue that both of the most common ways of understanding adaptive preferences—the autonomy-based account and the well-being account—would reject blanket claims that disabled people’s QOL self-assessment has been distorted, whether those claims come from mainstream bioethicists or from disability bioethicists. However, rejecting these generalizations for a more nuanced view still has dramatic implications for the status quo in both health policy and clinical ethics.

Case material is presented from two patients suffering from addictive sexual behavior. The term addiction is used because of the intense, driven quality of the behavior and because of its mood-elevating effects. Psychodynamically, the patients’ sexual acts helped to undo feelings of rejection at the hands of their mothers and to enhance feelings of lovability and of self-esteem. The behavior also helped to neutralize powerful feelings of rage toward the mother. In one patient, the acts also helped to ease inner turmoil related to an underlying attention deficit disorder. I speculate that some adults with addictive sexual behavior may have underlying attention deficit disorders. In both my patients, the sexual behaviors served the self-regulatory function of alleviating inner feelings of anhedonia and depression. When they decreased their sexual activities during the course of the treatment, they required adjunctive antidepressant medication. The underlying meaning of the medication and countertransference attitudes toward such patients are explored.

The aim of this study is to investigate the longitudinal influence of self-esteem on romantic and coparental relationship quality. The data were drawn from the German Family Panel, pairfam. Parents ( n couples = 2,364) were assessed three times over 4 years. The results indicated that romantic and coparental quality decreased over time, while self-esteem remained stable. The self-esteem of both parents predicted initial romantic and coparental quality. Additionally, mothers’ self-esteem reduced the decline in romantic quality. Finally, romantic quality mediated the relationship between parents’ self-esteem and coparental quality. These results suggest that self-esteem might be a resource for the parental couple and even for the family unit, as romantic and coparental quality are key elements for the well-being of both parent and child.

Abstract The results of the work show that the relatively small differences in declared, negative emotional states (such as depression or anxiety) between people suffering and not suffering from cancer can be explained by the suppression of negative affect in the former. It was assumed that the suppression is related to a compensation of an automatic, affective self-assessment - i.e. implicit self-esteem, lower in cancer patients. The results confirmed that the connection of cancer and depression (similarly cancer and anxiety) became significantly stronger while the self-esteem defensiveness and past stress are statistically controlled.

The relevance of studying the self- assessment of cadets of the Suvorov Military School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and its relationship with psychological health is due to the need to increase the effectiveness of the system of psychological support for cadets during the period of pre-university education, the purpose of which is to compensate for the deficiencies in the adaptive abilities of adolescents and their further personal and professional self-determination. One of the main criteria for assessing a cadet’s career opportunities in the law enforcement system is his self-assessment. A young man entering the Suvorov Military School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia does not always proportion the level of his physical, intellectual and personal capabilities with those requirements of the educational environment of a military school. The inability of adolescents to adequately assess their strengths and weaknesses complicates the process of professional self-determination, in connection with which a significant percentage of the pupils who entered the school experience difficulties in adaptation, are disappointed in their choice and make a decision to expel. The study resulted in a correlation between the self-esteem of the cadets of the Suvorov Military School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia with the resource of their psychological health, reflecting the ratio of constructive and destructive-deficient central (unconscious) personality functions. Another finding is a significant difference in the self-assessment of cadets assigned to different groups of psychological health. The practical significance of the research findings is determined by the possibility of their effective use in the system of psychological support for pre-university training of cadets of the Suvorov military school, including the period of mass psycho-prophylactic examinations and the provision of targeted psychological assistance to cadets with low self-assessment.
