To have a successful school life, a child must be able to make a healthy start to this period both socially and mentally. For this, children's views about school have a strong potential to affect their entire lives. The research aimed to examine the views of 4-5-year-old children who have not started any formal school yet. The study group consisted of 12 children aged between 4-5 years who have not started kindergarten from the province of Rize in Turkey. For the study; an open-ended, concentrated interview and drawing methods were applied with a small group. The data obtained from the group interviews with the children and the interpretation of the drawings were analyzed using the descriptive analysis technique. Based on the data, it was concluded that the family and the media are among the strong information sources of children about school and that positive features are frequently repeated. Negative features included crowding, rules, etc. The results also revealed that children who have no school experience and those who attend a pre-school education institution full-time have similar views about the school.

Teachers' interactions with mathematically gifted students in the classroom environment, and the elements of this interaction have become prominent recently. This qualitative study's purpose is to reveal the views of prospective secondary mathematics teachers about these interactions. The study participants were seven prospective teachers attending the fourth year of a secondary mathematics teaching programme in a public university in Turkey during the 2018-2019 academic year. These prospective teachers participated in a 90-minute focus group interview which was recorded with a video camera. During the interview, the researcher brought up possible classroom environment scenarios that could occur with mathematically gifted students who may have the characteristics that the participants described. The prospective teachers' views about the kinds of behaviours they can exhibit, and what methods they can reveal in these theoretical interactions were analysed with the descriptive analysis method. The study results indicated that the participants exhibited different approaches to situations they might encounter in the classroom. For example, some prospective mathematics teachers asserted that mathematically gifted students should be assisted in the classroom context; others stated that such students should be supported with out-of-class activities rather than helping them in the classroom. Besides, the participants suggested that the history of mathematics and advanced mathematics subjects could also be used to educate mathematically gifted students.

In February 2018, a full-time provider of gifted education opened in New Zealand with its initial cohort of children. This provider catered for learners from ages 1-15 years who did not ‘fit’ in mainstream education settings. This paper reports on a research project that focused on the effectiveness of the learning approach at this school in its inaugural year. Two sources of data informed this research, including semi-structured interviews with parents and learning and support staff, and an analysis of documents related to the philosophy, curriculum, and learning approach. This paper reports on benefits and limitations of the learning approach identified by the parent participants in the study.
