Traditional user experience (UX) models are mostly qualitative in terms of its measurement and structure. This paper proposes a quantitative UX model based on cumulative prospect theory. It takes a decision making perspective between two alternative design profiles. However, affective elements are well-known to have influence on human decision making, the prevailing computational models for analyzing and simulating human perception on UX are mainly cognition-based models. In order to incorporate both affective and cognitive factors in the decision making process, we manipulate the parameters involved in the cumulative prospect model to show the affective influence. Specifically, three different affective states are induced to shape the model parameters. A hierarchical Bayesian model with a technique called Markov chain Monte Carlo is used to estimate the parameters. A case study of aircraft cabin interior design is illustrated to show the proposed methodology.

User experience (UX) design involves combination of different design attributes with their corresponding attribute levels to form different product profiles. This raises the issue of how to integrate corresponding UX of individual design attribute levels (i.e., partworth UX measures) into a holistic measure of UX of the entire product profile. Traditional methods often use a weighted sum of single partworth UX strategy without considering their dependence. This paper proposes to use utility copulas to accommodate the dependence of individual partworth UX measures. Single utility functions are constructed based on cumulative prospect theory, based on which multivariate Archimedean utility copulas are constructed using a nested structure based on the modularized attributes. A case study of aircraft cabin interior design is demonstrated to show the potential and feasibility of the proposed methodology.

Kartika Wijaya Hotel and Niagara Hotel-Malang are two heritage buildings, which are well managed to preserve their historical building that, has been established since 1891. We can find good harmony and variety in interior elements and design styles, such as Colonial style, Art Noveau and Art Deco style. The purpose of documentating this heritage building that has different design styles is for those who needed. The data will be classified according to the period of the development of the buildings and characteristics of existing styles. The research objective on Kartika Wijaya hotel building and art styles is to preserve historic buildings in Indonesia, through documentation of interior elements and architectures, and to conducted a study of the interior and architectures elements, interior design ornaments, that founded in historical Kartika Wijaya Hotel and Niagara Hotel in Malang, whose the existence needs to be preserved.

The interior design of Malaysian Islamic mosques is a vivid example of further innovation and innovation based on design creativity in design relationships.As a result of the interaction of this level, the design process shows a clear independence as a result of the interaction of the subjective capabilities factor of the interior designer based on the study of the specificity of the objective capabilities that govern the processes of drafting innovative decorative arts.Therefore, it was necessary to study this issue by identifying the research problem, which is summarized by: showing the features of design independence as a complementary principle in the designs of the interior spaces of Malaysian mosques,While the aim of the research focuses on identifying the features of design independence that are adopted as a complementary principle in the designs of the interior spaces of Malaysian mosques,While the importance of research is evident in presenting a clear picture of the concept of design independence, as it represents the theoretical base that can be used in practical application in designs of interior spaces for the chapel of the Malaysian Islamic mosques,The research study also includes both (research limits, theoretical framework, as well as research procedures based on the descriptive analytical approach (content analysis - case study)) leading to the results of the research study, which was among the most important: 1- Design configurations of all kinds and design configurations emerged within the designs of the internal determinants, based on the study of the interior designer, to the aesthetic independence of the division of space and size as a complementary principle within the internal determinants of the mosque of the two mosques. 2- The relationship of the principle of the independence of convergence as a complementary principle contributed to determining the distances between shapes, which can be perceived as a unified whole, through the distribution of units and shapes within a consecutive visual design system. While the most important recommendations emerged through the necessity of studying the choice of levels of internal determinants of the chapel of the Malaysian Islamic mosques.With the demonstration of the expressive characteristic of civilization development through design recruitment of appropriate vocabulary and design units with a careful selection of modern materials and materials in line with the innovative design path to achieve the requirements of design independence within the chapel of the Malaysian Islamic mosques.

This chapter provides a comprehensive case study to demonstrate the longitudinal development of online pedagogy for higher education through a lens of interior design. The chapter presents constructivist theory as a guiding pedagogical framework for the creation of learning environments within Second Life (SL) virtual reality. Details of the rigorous process of incorporation of SL, as an enhancement to a traditional course with a laboratory component, is presented to validate the integrity of the scholarship of teaching and learning undertaken in the exemplar case study. The concluding components of the chapter review the iterative process of course outcome evaluation compared to course and accreditation standards to further demonstrate the educational value of virtual reality as an environment for learning.

The research project Re-Coding Homes aims to create flexible interior design solutions for standard mass housing units and differentiate them according to different user needs. The study consists of three basic steps defined as case study, development of the design model, and development of the user interface. The design model is characterized by a flexible expert system that leads to different spatial variations by multi-parametric layout generation based on parameters determined by user needs. In this sense, the design model acts as a mass customization tool that gives the possibility to create complete living environments together with all furniture and necessary equipment.

Spatial accessibility to general hospitals is an important indicator of the convenience and ability of residents to obtain medical services. Therefore, developing a model for measuring accessibility to general hospitals by multiple transportation modes is necessary. In this study, considering that the increase in travel time will reduce the attractiveness of general hospitals, we used the Two-Step Floating Catchment Area with the Gaussian attenuation function, in which the supply was presented by capacity of hospitals (i.e., number of beds), and the demand was presented by population in each grid derived with social media data mapping real-time locations of active users. The Gaussian Two-Step Floating Catchment Area (Ga2SFCA) simulates the attenuation tendency of the general hospital service capabilities over transit time. To obtain a highly precise understanding of accessibility to hospitals, transit time on Baidu Maps’ navigation service was used as the impedance condition, and the study area was divided into 1 square kilometer grids as the basic unit of research. Taking Nanjing city as a case study, it is found that the accessibility distribution shape changes from a multi-centered circular pattern to a multi-peak distribution, as the time threshold increases. By comparing the accessibility among 11 districts varying from main urban area to suburbs, the accessibility to general hospitals in Nanjing is significantly regionally unbalanced in both travel modes. By calculating and mapping the Modal Accessibility Gap (MAG) of the two travel modes, different modes of transportation resulted in different general hospital accessibility distributions. Generally, private car is superior in access to general hospitals to public transit in most areas. In the central area, public traffic may not contribute to the access to medical services as much as we thought, rather it plays a role in areas far from hospitals along metro lines and bus routes.

The success of gastronomic facilities is due, not in a small part, to perceived indoor atmosphere. This includes not just the interior design but also lighting and acoustics. Especially acoustics is a crucial parameter concerning the perception of the environment, but it is often neglected. The present case study investigates the usability and accuracy of acoustics simulation as applied to the retrofit project of a restaurant. The restaurant space was modelled in CAD-based modelling environment. Subsequently, acoustical simulations based on ray tracing were conducted and the simulation model was calibrated based on on-site measurements of the reverberation time. The initial simulation showed large deviations from the measured values, mainly because of uncertainties in the input data concerning the absorption properties of the used materials. Within three calibration steps, the model was revised, such that better results could be achieved. Subsequently both the initial and the calibrated models were used to develop strategies for the improvement of the acoustical performance of the space. After the implementation of the new design options in the restaurant, measurements were repeated. Again the results were compared with both the initial and the calibrated model. The results suggest that the calibrated model displayed a better performance regarding the prediction of post-retrofit circumstances when compared to the non-calibrated one.
