The paper probes into the translation competence of non-English majors in college English study, based on a study carried out in Leshan Normal University in terms of translation teaching in college English teaching. Questionnaires on EFL teachers and students as well as data analysis are implemented with an aim to find out the current problems of translation teaching in college English and non-English majors’ translation competence. Based on the problems, the author draws the conclusions and raises some suggestions, trying to help non-English majors to improve their translation competence and also to help EFL teachers to perfect their teaching approaches in translation teaching. The paper’s findings are supposed to not only apply to Leshan Normal University but also apply to other colleges and universities in China.

Classroom questioning is an effective teaching strategy. Questioning in classroom is not only an important source for students inputting language, but also a contributing factor for students outputting language. It plays a critical role in promoting the communication and interaction between teachers and students. Whether the class teaching is effective or not, mainly depends on questioning. Therefore, effective questioning can stimulate students’ interest and motive their enthusiasm in study and then to achieve better teaching effect. More and more attention is paid to the classroom questioning home and abroad, but there is a lack of attention given to the classroom questioning in college. On the basis of the previous achievements, the author makes a survey on the freshman majoring in English in Shanxi Normal University. And through the analysis of the situation in college classroom questioning, the author tries to discuss the existing problems and put forward some improvement suggestions. The research will help teachers to find their problems in questioning and improve their questioning skills and then to promote the English teaching.

With the development of the new curriculum reform in China, the traditional college English teaching model is no longer suitable for the needs of college English teaching tasks in the new era. The multimodal literacy teaching in the college English multimodal teaching mode is to help students internalize their English language skills after learning and understanding English knowledge, thus improving the efficiency of English learning. The hot spots and topics in the information age are always inseparable from technological innovation. Wearable technology is becoming more and more popular, the scope of research is expanding, and innovations are constantly emerging, showing interdisciplinary and integrated features. This paper introduces the wearable technology in detail, and takes the college English teaching as an opportunity. Through the questionnaire survey of teachers and students, this paper analyzes the survey data. The results of the survey show that wearable technology can stimulate academic interest in college English. This research attempts to conduct interdisciplinary research on multi-modal semiotics and humanistic teaching methods in the following areas, which expands the scope of research and, to a certain extent, enhances the vitality of multi-modal discourse analysis.

China has entered the 21st century, the Internet has entered an era of rapid development, especially in recent years, with the emergence of five G, China’s Internet development has entered a new journey, with the rapid development of the Internet, China’s various industries can not do without the Internet, whether real estate, financial industry or even education industry. In recent years, under the influence of the newly created “Internet” education model, the English teaching methods of major colleges and universities have also undergone great reform. A new teaching mode, which combines the means of past education and teaching with modern information network, makes teaching no longer restricted by time and space. This kind of teaching mode can not only improve students’ interest in learning, meet the needs of modern students, but also improve the quality of English teaching in colleges and universities. This paper analyzes the productive vocabulary (PV) of non-English majors in a highly prestigious university in China through a DIY learner corpus of English compositions and the Productive Vocabulary Level Test. Based on the total PV and the average PV, this paper compares the corpus with the CEFR-aligned English Vocabulary Profile (EVP) of Cambridge University. The results show that some of the outstanding students can attain Level B2 of EVP while most students’ PV is comparable to Level B1. The results of this study shed light on strengthening vocabulary teaching in College English teaching in China.

In higher education, English has always been the focus of teaching, and college English teaching must be vigorously innovated. Through the analysis of the English teaching situation in some colleges and universities, we discovered that micro-lessons an innovative teaching method, has been applied to a certain extent, but the circumstances under which micro-lessons are applied are not favorable. Many college English teachers recognize the value of micro-learning applications, but the shortcomings in the teaching also cause many challenges in the application of micro-lessons. This article will analyze the application value and specific challenges of micro-lessons in college English teaching, and propose some suggestions on the application of micro-lessons.
