Background: Adhesive capsulitis is characterized by a painful, gradual loss of both active and passive glenohumeral motion resulting from progressive fibrosis and ultimate contracture of the glenohumeral joint capsule. Patients with Adhesive capsulitis have difficulties in everyday activities and shoulder pain also disturbs sleep at night on the affected side. Muscle energy technique helps in increasing shoulder range of motion. Maitland Mobilization is commonly used in the treatment of frozen shoulder. SPENCER Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is unique in its application as the client provides the initial effort while the practitioner facilitates the process. Objective: Objectives of the study was to compare the effect of Spencer MET Vs Maitland’s mobilization on pain, Range of Motion (ROM) and Disability in the patients with frozen shoulder. Methods: In the present experimental study, total 58 patients with frozen shoulder were included. Inclusion criteria were male and female with age of 40 to 60 year with unilateral frozen shoulder (at least 3-month duration). Patients were randomly allocated in two groups with 29 patients in each group: SPENCER MET and Conventional physiotherapy and MM and conventional physiotherapy for 5days a week with total duration of 4 weeks. Pre and post intervention assessment was carried out by using VAS, SPADI and ROM. Data was analysed by using SPSS 15 version. Results: Paired t test was applied within group comparison and result showed statistically significant difference in post intervention measurement compared to pre intervention for improving pain, reducing disability and increasing all ROM in both the groups. Independent t test was applied between group comparison and result showed statistically significant difference between groups mean pre-post differences in improving pain, reducing disability and increasing all ROM except extension and internal rotation. Conclusion: This study concludes that both the techniques used in the present study i.e., Spencer Muscle Energy Technique and Maitland Mobilization are effective for improving pain, reducing disability, and increasing ROM. However, SPENCER MET is the more effective for improving pain, reducing disability, and increasing ROM compared to Maitland Mobilization in patients with frozen shoulder. Objective: The objective of study was to find the effectiveness of muscle energy techniques (METs) in patients with adhesive capsulitis. Methodology: Study was conducted in population of Sargodha seeking physiotherapy treatment for adhesive capsulitis in physiotherapy rehabilitation departments and centers. Study was randomized, controlled and multicenter. 50 patients were selected by inclusion and exclusion criteria and were divided into two groups by lottery method of randomization. Group I obtained muscle energy technique. Group II was controlled that obtained conventional treatment in the form of heat and range of motion exercises. Duration of study was 06 month. Interventions were carried out for two weeks (total 10 sessions). A baseline measurement was taken on shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI). A post intervention measurement was taken on same outcome measurements tools and was compared by independent t test. Results: The pre intervention measurements on Shoulder Pain Disability Index were 61.11 in control and 61.18 in METs group. The post intervention measurements on Shoulder Pain Disability Index were 49.33in control and 27.69 in METs group. Conclusion: This study concluded that METs techniques are effective in treatment of adhesive capsulitis to decrease the pain and disability in comparison to control groups.

Background: Periarthritis Shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition that results in tissue degeneration, thickening of the joint capsule, and a narrowing of the glenoid cavity. Diabetes mellitus is linked to many debilitating musculoskeletal disorders of the hand and shoulder. Prevalence of adhesive capsulitis or frozen shoulder is estimated to be 11-30 percent in people with diabetes. Various interventions have already been used to prevent pain and improve quality of life. Both Muscle Energy Technique and Kalternborn Mobilization Technique are thought to have a pain-relieving effect. Aim & Objective: The study's aim is to compare the effects of both techniques on pain in diabetic patients. Methods/Design: In this study experimental study, the participants will be divided into two groups: Kalternborn Mobilization Technique Group (A) and Muscle Energy Technique Group (B) based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Both interventions include 30-45 min session which will be carried out for duration of four days. Outcome will be Pain and Quality of Life and outcome measures will be evaluated at beginning and at the end of intervention period. Result: Successful Completion of trial of Muscle Energy Technique and Kalternborn Mobilisation Technique will provide evidence for best strategy targeting Pain and quality of life in diabetic patients with Periarthritis of Shoulder. Conclusion: The study will be concluded with the significant effect of Muscle Energy Technique and Kalternborn Mobilisation Technique on Periarthritis shoulder of diabetic patients.

BACKGROUND Evidence till date indicates high incidence of neck pain, and soft tissue techniques [muscle energy technique (MET), strain counter strain (SCS)] have proven to be effective for non-specific neck pain (NSNP). However, their comparative effect is yet to be proven, hence the present study attempted to investigate the comparative effectiveness of MET with SCS techniques in individuals with NSNP. METHODS Total 10 participants diagnosed with NSNP were included in the study. They were allocated into two groups utilizing convenient sampling. Group A received MET with SCS technique and Group B received MET with conventional physiotherapy. The interventions were given for 2 weeks, 3 sessions per week for 45 minutes. The outcome measures used in the study were numeric pain rating scale (NPRS), neck disability index (NDI), range of motion (ROM) which were assessed before the intervention immediately after the first session and at 1st week and end of 2nd week. RESULTS Intragroup comparison found to be significantly reduced in terms of pain and neck disability index and improvement in cervical range of motion (P = < 0.05). However intergroup comparisons showed significant difference in Group A only at the end of 2nd week of intervention (P = < 0.05), but the results were not significant immediately and at the 1st week of intervention (P = > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The study concluded that MET with SCS technique is more effective in reducing pain, neck disability and improving cervical range of motion. KEY WORDS MET, SCS, NSNP

Frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis is one of the most common causes of shoulder pain and disability in the general population. Its prevalence is 2-5% in the general population and 10-20% among diabetics. It predominantly affects females and most commonly affects people between the ages of 40 and 60 years. The left shoulder is more likely to be affected, with both shoulders affected in 12% of cases. A case study is presented to illustrate the clinical presentation, aetiology, diagnosis, radiological assessment, and management of frozen shoulder through Hijamah bila shurt (dry cupping) in a 60-year-old diabetic male patient. The present case was studied for over 8 weeks; Hijamah (dry cupping) was done on prescribed points for the affected shoulder twice a week for 8 weeks, and assessment was done at baseline and every 2 weeks. This study concluded that regimental therapy Hijamah bila shurt (dry cupping) has a significant effect in reducing pain, stiffness of joints, and increasing range of motion in frozen shoulder.

Pendahuluan: Frozen shoulder adalah suatu kondisi idiopatik pada bahu yang ditandai dengan timbulnya nyeri dan keterbatasan pada sendi bahu. Frozen shoulder terjadi 2% hingga 5% populasi dan 40% pada penderita diabetes melitus. Frozen shoulder lebih banyak terjadi pada wanita dibanding pria dan terjadi pada rentang usia 40 hingga 65 tahun. Permasalahan yang muncul akibat terjadinya frozen shoulder dapat diberikan intervensi scapular mobilization dan muscle energy technique. Tujuan Penelitian ini untuk mengetahui perbedaan pemberian scapular mobilization dan muscle energi technique dalam menurunkan disabilitas bahu pada kondisi frozen shoulder. Metode: Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental dengan rancangan pre dan post test group design. Sampel penelitian ini adalah pasien dengan kondisi frozen shoulder, berjumlah 18 sampel yang dipilih berdasarkan kriteria inklusi dan membagi menjadi dua kelompok. Kelompok I diberikan intervensi scapular mobilization sedangkan Kelompok II diberikan intervensi muscle energy technique selama 4 minggu. Pengukuran penurunan disabilitas bahu menggunakan Shoulder Pain and Disability Indeks (SPADI) dianalisis dengan independent t-test, untuk mencari rerata skor SPADI setelah perlakuan Hasil: Pada uji beda penurunan disabilitas bahu sesudah intervensi kelompok I dengan kelompok II yang menggunakan independent sample t-test didapatkan penurunan disabilitas bahu dan hasil ini berbeda secara signifikan p 0,006 (p < 0,05), yang berarti ada perbedaan scapular mobilization dan muscle energy technique dalam menurunkan disabilitas bahu pada kondisi frozen shoulder. Simpulan: Intervensi scapular mobilization lebih baik dari muscle energy technique dalam menurunkan disabilitas bahu pada kondisi frozen shoulder.    Kata Kunci: Frozen Shoulder, Scapular Mobilization, Muscle Energy Technique, SPADI

Introduction: Shoulder pain is the most common form of extra-articular rheumatism. We aimed to determine the efficiency of the conventional physical treatment of the shoulder pain compared to the conventional treatment plus the Mulligan's joint mobilization technique and acupuncture. Methods: We included a total of 277 patients with the shoulder pain caused by adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), calcific tendinitis, rotator cuff syndrome, or the tendinitis of the biceps muscle. We used clinical and radiological diagnostic criteria to make the diagnosis. Patients were assigned into group treated with conventional physiotherapy treatment during the ten days (CP)(n=148), and the group treated with conventional physiotherapy treatment plus the Mulligan joint mobilization and acupuncture (CP+MA)(n=128). Treatment efficiency was evaluated by assessing the status of the patients before and after the treatment with the Work Abilities and Activities of Daily Living (WAADL) scale as well as the Treatment Success scale. Results: Mean treatment duration was 13.36±5.83 and 10.86±4.55 days in CP and CP+MA group, respectively (p<0.05). Mean WAADL scores after the treatment were 3.98±1.04 and 4.61±1.10 in CP and CP+MA group, respectively (p<0.05). Mean Treatment success score was 3.16±0.74 and 4.35±0.78 in CP and CP+MA group, respectively (p< 0.05). Conclusions: Conventional physical therapy plus the Mulligan's joint mobilization technique and acupuncture resulted in shorter treatment duration and higher WAADL and Treatment success scores in patients with shoulder pain.

Abstract Background Mechanical low back pain (MLBP) is a major cause of illness and disability, especially in people of working age. People with chronic low back pain often experience anger, fear, anxiety, decrease in physical ability, and inadequacy of role fulfillment. Objective This study aimed to compare the efficacy of extension exercise program versus muscle energy technique in treating patients with chronic mechanical low back pain. Subjects and methods Forty patients complaining of chronic mechanical low back pain participated in the study. Patients were randomly allocated into two equal groups: group A which received spinal extension exercise program and group B which received muscle energy technique. Treatment sessions were given three times per week for four successive weeks. Patients were assessed before and after treatment using visual analogue scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and digital goniometer to assess pain intensity, functional disability, and range of motion (ROM) of lumbar spine respectively. Results There was significant decrease in the scores of pain and functional disability in both groups post-treatment especially in group B. There was significant increase in lumbar range of motion in both groups post-treatment, especially in group A. Conclusion Extension exercise program had better effect on improving lumbar range of motion, whereas muscle energy technique was better in decreasing pain and functional disability in patients with chronic mechanical low back pain.

Aim: To find the effectiveness of laser therapy and ultrasound therapy along with muscle energy technique in treatment of Trapezitis. Materials and Methods: Non-equivalent quasi experimental study design was used in this study. Total of 30 subjects with trapezitis were selected using non probability convenient sampling technique.30 Subjects was divided into two groups by lot system. Group A received laser therapy and Group B received ultrasound therapy and for both the group muscle energy technique was given. The outcome measures are Neck Disability Index (NDI) for measuring Functional Disability. Data collected and tabulated was statistically analyzed. Result: Statistical analysis of post-test, Neck Disability Index (NDI) revealed that there is statistically significant difference seen between Group A and Group B. Conclusion: From the result, it has been concluded that Laser therapy with muscle energy technique (Group A) was more effective than Ultrasound therapy with muscle energy technique (Group B) on improving functional ability in subjects with Trapezitis.
