Curupirina papuana sp. n. and an unnamed species of a probably new genus of Apistomyiini (Diptera : Blephariceridae) are described from the Ok Tedi, a tributary of the Fly River, Papua New Guinea. This is the first report of the family from the island; its zoogeographical significance is discussed with reference to the long-presumed role of the island in the evolution and dispersal of the tribe Apistomyiini.

Pseudebenia Shima, Han & Tachi, gen. nov., is described for six new species, P. argyrosoma Shima & Tachi, sp. nov. and P. fulvipalpis Shima & Tachi, sp. nov. from Papua New Guinea, P. epilachnae Shima & Han, sp. nov. from South Korea, P. fuscata Shima & Tachi, sp. nov. from Malaysia, P. nepalensis Shima & Tachi, sp. nov. from Nepal and P. trisetosa Shima & Tachi, sp. nov. from China. Pseudebenia epilachnae is a larval parasitoid of the phytophagous ladybird beetle Epilachna quadricollis (Dieke). A key to the species of Pseudebenia is given and features of the new species are illustrated. The genus belongs to the subfamily Tachininae and is tentatively placed in the tribe Macquartiini.

A new species ascribed to a new genus of Eusiridae, Dorotea papuana gen. nov., sp. nov. is described from bathyal bottoms of the Solomon Sea (Papua New Guinea). Closely related to the genus Cleonardo, this new genus can be distinguished from most other known eusirid genera by the presence of a telson distally cleft and distinctly bilobate, of a distal spiniform process on uropod 1 peduncle and of a simple, stout and medium length dactylus on pereopods 5–7. The combination of all these characters can be considered relevant for the affiliation of this species to a new genus within Eusiridae. Due to its very close morphological affinity to Dorotea gen. nov., the bathyal sub-Antarctic species Eusiroides aberrantis Bellan-Santini & Ledoyer, 1987 cannot be maintained in the family Pontogeneiidae and it should be transferred to the   family Eusiridae.

AbstractThe generic classification of water striders belonging to the veliid subfamily Haloveliinae is discussed and revised and a key to the genera provided. A new genus of marine haloveliines, Haloveloides gen. n., is described. The type species of the new genus, H. papuensis (Esaki) comb. n., is redescribed and recorded from Papua New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago, and the Solomons. H. browni (Lansbury) comb. n. is redescribed and recorded from the same areas as the type species. Five new species are described in the genus: H. brevicornis sp. n. (the Moluccas, Sulawesi, Palawan), sundaensis sp. n. (Sunda shelf areas), danpolhemi sp. n. (Palawan), cornuta sp. n. (Luzon), and femoralis sp. n. (Palawan). The cladistic relationships and biogeography of the species are discussed.

Abstract Nediphya gen. n. and four new species, N. lehtineni sp. n. (type species), N. hippai sp. n., N. lyleae sp. n. and N. padillai sp. n. are described from Papua New Guinea. Some somatic characters of Nediphya gen. n. such as modified eyes and a prolateral row of stiff setae on legs I and II resemble those of Diphya Nicolet, 1849, but the morphology of its copulatory organs indicates it belongs to Nanometinae, a subfamily known only from Australasia. Th e status and composition of Nanometinae are briefly discussed. Nanometa gentilis Simon 1908 (the type species of Nanometa Simon, 1908), thought to be known only from the female, was actually described from both sexes.

Omniops gen. n. (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae: Hydrophilini: Acidocerina) is described for two new species from Papua New Guinea: Omniops fasciatus sp. n. and O. hanseni sp. n. This genus is distinguished from other genera of Hydrophilidae by having the eyes divided into dorsal and ventral portions by an extension of the frons, and by having a row of dense long setae on the labrum. The tribal placement of the new genus and that of Quadriops Hansen are discussed. High resolution digital images are given for each holotype (online versions in color).
