Eleutherodactylus uno n. sp . is described from the oak-pine zone of the Sierra Madre del Sur, in the Mexican state of Guerrero . The new species cannot be associated with any currently recognized supraspecific division within the genus and demonstrates the unsatisfactory nature of attempts to cluster the approximately 400 known species into groups.

A New Species

Recent botanical explorations in Durango, Mexico, led to the discovery of a new species endemic to this state: Cunila socorroae (Lamiaceae), which is consequently here described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically most similar to C. jaliscana and C. lythrifolia. It can be distinguished from both in having less flowers per cyme, lanceolate floral bracts, longer calyx tube, and lanceolate calyx teeth and longer. It also deviates from C. jaliscana by the fewer floral internodes, longer floral bract, and generally longer corolla tube. Also, the exfoliating bark, white corollas and internally pubescent, make a clear distinction against C. lythrifolia. The distinctive geographic distribution of these species is an additional support to their separation; the new species is exclusive of the middle portion of Sierra Madre Occidental, whereas C. jaliscana is restricted to the northernmost portion of Sierra Madre del Sur, and C. lythrifolia, though mostly occurs in eastern Tans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, has also some localities in southern Chihuahuan Desert, Sierra Madre Oriental and Sierra Madre del Sur.

Phanaeus zapotecus Edmonds, new species, is described. This species occurs in the vicinity of Sola de Vega in the Sierra Madre del Sur of Oaxaca (Mexico), where it was collected from mushrooms in pine-oak forest. It is illustrated and compared with the closely related Mexican species Phanaeus endymion Harold and Phanaeus halffterorum Edmonds.Resumen: Se describe Phanaeus zapotecus Edmonds, especie nueva, especie micetófaga que habita en los bosques pino-encino de la Sierra Madre del Sur en los alrededores de Sola de Vega, Oaxaca (México). Se compara con sus parientes, las especies mexicanas Phanaeus endymion Harold y Phanaeus halffterorum Edmonds.

A New Species

A new species of Ipomoea, I. kahloiae, is described and illustrated. It is endemic to tropical semideciduous forests in the Acahuizotla area of the Sierra Madre del Sur in Guerrero, Mexico. Information about its distribution, ecology, conservation and morphology is provided. Phylograms are presented to clarify the relationships of this new species within Ipomoea.

A New Species

We describe a new species of frog Sarcohyla floresi sp. nov. from the Sierra Madre del Sur of Guerrero and the southern part of Estado de México, based on specimens previously referred to as S. pentheter and newly obtained specimens. The new species has stream-dwelling tadpoles with labial tooth row formula 2(2)/3 and adults with a distinctive dark dorsolateral band bordered by a white line. S. floresi can be included in the S. bistincta group.

Content of the dipsadid genus Rhadinaea has changed considerably since Myers’ 1974 revision. Three species groups are recognized currently in the genus. Our fieldwork in Oaxaca in June 2018 produced a single specimen of Rhadinaea considered to represent a new taxon. This new species is described from converted Premontane Wet Forest in the municipality of Santa Catarina Juquila in the Sierra Madre del Sur of southern Oaxaca, Mexico. It is most closely related to Rhadinaealaureata, from which it can be distinguished easily by color pattern and scutellation, and represents a species group distinct from the other three occupying the genus.

A New Species

We describe a new species of lizard of the genus Plestiodon from the Sierra Madre del Sur of Guerrero, Mexico. Plestiodonnietoi sp. nov. shares a characteristic with all members of the P. brevirostris group in that the scale that medially bordersthe postgenial is wider than long. This species is most similar to P. brevirostris and P. indubitus from which it differs byhaving the following combination of characters: large adult size, interparietal enclosed posteriorly by parietals, and a pale lateral line on the neck.
