Aim. To evaluate the caries experience of the first permanent molars (FPM) in a sample group treated in the Pedodontics Department of “Carol Davila” University. Material and methods. Cross-sectional study on 100 pacients: 50 girls and 50 boys, mean age 7,4±1,1 years. There were calculated: the number of erupted FPM; the odontal status of FPM examined: sound, stained, simple and complicated caries; caries experience indices; caries distribution on FPM according to the topography and the affected tooth; the percentage of sound FPM sealed and the treatment distribution on stained and decayed FPM. Results. 99,5% of FPM were erupted at the examination moment; 48,74% FPM were sound, 15,6% were stained and 35,67% had simple and complicated decays. The DMFT/DMFS values were: boys: 1,35±0,77/1,74±0,96; girls: 1,2±0,45/1,5±0,78. 78,87% of FPM had caries on the occlusal surface. The lower FPM were more affected than the upper FPM: 55% vs. 45%. Most FPM had simple caries – 94,4%, the other 5,6% being complicated caries. 27,31% of the sound FPM were sealed. 67,74% stained FPM were treated. Only half (56,33%) of the decayed FPM were treated. Conclusions. Most FPM were erupted in the examination day. One third of the FPM already had caries, most of them being located on the occlusal surface of the lower FPM. Most of them were simple caries. Only a quarter of the sound FPM were sealed.

ABSTRACT Objective To obtain base line data about the availability of cariogenic foods in the primary school canteens in the city of Abha, Saudi Arabia. Materials and methods The present study was performed in 6 to 10-year-old school boys living in Abha city in 2012. Eight public primary schools with canteen facilities were randomly selected and all the children in the schools were included in the study. Data was collected to know the availability of foods which are cariogenic and the students were made to answer a questionnaire that had questions about their source of food intake. Results A total number of 1,807 primary school students participated in the study. 87% of the items available in school canteens were cariogenic and only 13% were noncariogenic. 1505 (83%) school children get food from home, 263 (15%) depend entirely on the canteen, 1320 (73%) eat from both home and canteen and only 158 (8%) of the school children rely entirely on homemade food. Conclusion The canteens should reinforce the classroom programs relating to food, nutrition and health. Standard guidelines have to be implemented throughout Saudi Arabia about eating habits in school and improve the overall nutritional quality of school food. Aim: Objectives: To analyze variations in dental arch width in relation to oral habits.   Materials and Methods : Cross sectional  study was carried out Department of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics of Dhaka Dental College & Hospital, Dhaka with a total number of 600 primary school children of 3-6 years ages of Bangladeshi population. Results: This study was a cross sectional study conducted among the 600 children with 3-6 years old prima- ry school children of Bangladeshi population. According to present study, bottle feeding causes significant reduction in maxillary intercanine width and mouth breathers show significant reduction of both arches. Conclusion: It was observed that the children who had used a bottle had a significant reduction in maxillary intercanine width. Breathing through mouth appeared to be associated with a reduction in the size of both arches. This was more significant in the maxillary intercanine , mandibular  intercanine and mandibular molar widths. Therefore to prevent malocclusions, the public should be informed of the harm caused by certain oral habits, the benefits of breast-feeding, and the need to correct bad habits at early life.
