This study performed to determine the association between grain yield and yield components in fifty-four selected rice genotypes at F2 populations. Results showed that traits, the panicles per plant (r = 0.751) and filled grains per panicle (r = 0.458) correlated significantly with grain yield, while grain yield was negatively associated with non-filled grains per panicle (-0.297). Path coefficient analysis revealed that grain yield was associated with panicles per plant and filled grains per panicle with the direct effects of 0.691 and 0.568, respectively. The greatest indirect effect belonged to panicle length (0.301) through filled grains per panicle. Stepwise regression analysis showed that 72.1 percent of yield variation could be explained by three characters: the panicles per plant, filled grains per panicle and panicle length. Information obtained in this study revealed that traits, the panicles per plant and filled grains per panicle, could be used as selection criteria for grain yield improvement at segregating populations of rice.

An experiment was conducted to study the inter-relationships, direct and indirect effects of various yield attributing characters towards grain yield per plant, at Rice Research Centre, Rajendranagar. Grain yield per plant had significant positive correlation with productivity per day (0.97), panicle weight (0.71), number of filled grains per panicle (0.57), panicle length (0.46), number of productive tillers per plant (0.34), days to 50 per cent flowering (0.23) and plant height (0.16).Path analysis revealed that productivity/ day (0.91) was the major contributor for grain yield followed by, days to 50 per cent flowering (0.19), grain length (0.05), number of productive tillers per plant (0.04), panicle weight (0.04) and number of filled grains per panicle (0.04). It can be concluded from the study that, the above characters can be used as the selection criteria in any rice yield improvement breeding programmes.

<p>One of the objectives in rice breeding is to increase grain yield. The research was to evaluate numbers of hybrid rice genotypes and also to obtain the information about grain yield correlation main, grain yield component from numbers of hybrid rice genotypes and influencial character as selection criteria. The experiment conducted in the second season (MT II) of 2013 at Cilacap, Central Java province and in Malang, East Java province by using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. The genetic materials used were 18 hybrid rice genotypes and two check varieties namely Hipa8 and Ciherang. The results showed that grain yield had been effected by location, genotypes and both interactions. Hipa8 give yield average 9 t/ha while Ciherang 8.78 t/ha. There were two hybrid rice genotypes have equal yield statitistically with both check varieties. The hybrids were A7/BH25B-1B(9.13 t/ha) and IR58025A/CRS516 (9.15 t/ha). Based on path analysis numbers of empty grain, seed set, plant high and number of productive tillers have direct effect to yield with path coefficient of 0.0437; 0.3114; 0.,1952 and 1.931.These characters could be used as selection criteria.</p>

The research was carried out to study the correlation and path coefficient analysis of 51 different land races of maize for yield and component traits. Analysis of correlation between different characters suggested that the value of genotypic correlation were somewhat higher as compared to their corresponding phenotypic correlations signified the inherent relationship among the characters. Grain yield kg per ha. showed significant positive association with days to 50% pollenshed, days to 50% silking, days to 75% dry husk, number of cobs per plot, cob weight per plot and shalling perportion at both genotypic and phenotypic levels. Path co-efficient analysis revealed that the maximum positive direct effects of cob weight per plot, shelling perportion, ear height and number of cobs per plot towards grain yield. This finding suggested that more emphasis should be given to number of cobs per plot, cob weight per plot and shalling perportion in selection programmes aiming to improve grain yield in maize.

Path coefficient analysis was studied in 65 genotypes of barnyard millet to find out the association studies of characters and their direct and indirect effects on grain yield/plant. Results exhibited that single earhead weight had maximum direct effects on grain yield/plant followed by straw yield/plant, earhead length and plant height. Nine rice genotypes were evaluated for this present study. Genetic variability parameters, correlation and path coefficient analysis were estimated for eleven agronomic and quality traits. Among all the genotypes, ASD 16 recorded highest significant grain yield per plant. In this present study, the PCV was higher than GCV for all the characters studied. The grain yield per plant recorded highest GCV, high heritability coupled with high genetic advance which indicates that the trait were governed by epistasis and dominant gene action. Number of productive tillers per plant and thousand grain weight showed positive significant correlation and direct effects on grain yield per plant. The purpose of this study is to estimate the amount of variability present in this material, which in turn helps to select these material for further breeding programme to develop high yield hybrids combine with blast and leaf folder resistance.
