: Iran has been one of the active countries fighting against HIV/AIDS in the Middle East during the last decades. Moreover, there is a strong push to strengthen the national health management system concerning HIV prevention and control. In Iran, HIV disease has its unique features, from changes in modes of transmission to improvement in treatment and care programs, which can make it a good case for closer scrutiny. The present review describes the HIV epidemic in Iran from the first case diagnosed until prevention among different groups at risk and co-infections. Not only we addressed the key populations and community-based attempts to overcome HIV-related issues in clinics, but we also elaborated on the efforts and trends in society and the actual behaviors related to HIV/AIDS. Being located in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, given the countryspecific characteristics, and despite all the national efforts along with other countries in this region, Iran still needs to take extra measures to reduce HIV transmission, especially in health education. Although Iran is one of the pioneers in implementing applicable and appropriate policies in the MENA region, including harm reduction services to reduce HIV incidence, people with substance use disorder continue to be the majority of those living with HIV in the country. Similar to other countries in this region, the HIV prevention and control programs aim at 90-90-90 targets to eliminate HIV infection and reduce the transmission, especially the mother-to-child transmission and among other key populations.

Abstract: Sampling strategies such as respondent-driven sampling (RDS) and time-location sampling (TLS) offer unique opportunities to access key populations such as men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women. Limited work has assessed implementation challenges of these methods. Overcoming implementation challenges can improve research quality and increase uptake of HIV services among key populations. Drawing from studies using RDS in Brazil and TLS in Peru, we summarize challenges encountered in the field and potential strategies to address them. In Brazil, study site selection, cash incentives, and seed selection challenged RDS implementation with MSM. In Peru, expansive geography, safety concerns, and time required for study participation complicated TLS implementation with MSM and transgender women. Formative research, meaningful participation of key populations across stages of research, and transparency in study design are needed to link HIV/AIDS research and practice. Addressing implementation challenges can close gaps in accessing services among those most burdened by the epidemic.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) are serious diseases in the world in which one of transmission methods is through sexual intercourse. This study aimed to explain the influential host factors to the incidence of HIV/AIDS in key populations. The study was conducted on March-September 2016. The study was observational analytic with case-control design in key populations in Pati District. Cases were 53 patients living with HIV/AIDS, while controls were 53 patients not living with HIV/AIDS. The sampling technique employed was consecutive sampling. Data were obtained from medical records and interview questionaire. This study applied chi-square test to analyze bivariate data, and multiple logistic regression to analyze multivariate data. Results indicated that the influential factors to the incidence of HIV/AIDS in key populations were inconsistent condom use behavior, records of suffering from sexually-transmitted infections (STIs), and forms of sexual activity. While, factors which did not influence the incidence of HIV/AIDS were multiple sex partners behavior, sex accessories use behavior, tattoo needle use behavior, injecting drug use behavior. In conclusion, several influential factors to the incidence of HIV/AIDS in key populations are the inconsistent condom use behavior, records of suffering from STIs, and forms of sexual activity.

Background: This study aims to describe how the efforts implemented by PKBI Semarang City and how the analysis of Islamic Guidance and counselling on PKBI Semarang City in overcoming the dangers of risky behavior in the gay community. Method: This study is a descriptive qualitative study that aims to find out the efforts made by PKBI Semarang City in overcoming the dangers of risky behavior in the gay community, which is then described in the form of a description of words or writings. The data collection techniques used in this study are with observations, interviews, and documentation. Results: PKBI Semarang City has several programs to prevent HIV / AIDS transmission, namely, outreach and assistance, especially key populations such as: WPS, WPS Customers, gay, and Transvestites with preventive materials including (condoms, pelican, KIE). Conducting socialization activities to increase knowledge about STIs and HIV / AIDS Information needs to be done continuously, for example by using the mechanism of weekly meetings. Clinics, to prevent the transmission of HIV / AIDS and detect the presence of HIV / AIDS early, by empowering to always live healthy. PKBI Semarang City has not implemented any full Islamic extension guidance but seen from the form of extension and coaching activities carried out both individually and in groups. In the extension of PKBI Semarang city has a significant influence on the gay community, this is seen from the number of people with HIV / AIDS which decreased compared to the previous year.
