ABSTRACTBi2223 single crystals were grown by the floating zone method with an extremely slow growth rate of 0.05 mm / h. The largest size of the plate-like single crystal was approximately 3 × 2 × 0.1 mm3. The X-ray diffraction analysis and DC susceptibility measurements revealed that the grown crystals were almost single phase of Bi2223 with a very small percentage of Bi2212 intergrowth. Then carrier doping was systematically controlled in a wide range from underdoping to overdoping by post annealing under various conditions. Tc of the crystals was found to vary from 98 K (underdoped) to 108 K (overdoped) with Tc = 110 K for optimally-doped. In the optimally-doped phase the electromagnetic anisotropy factor, γ2 of Bi2223 was smaller than that of Bi2212. Abrupt resistivity drop was observed under fields below the second peak field of the magnetization hysteresis loops, suggesting a first order phase transition of the flux line lattice. Magnetic phase diagram of Bi2223 single crystals for H // c was found to be similar to that of Bi2212.

AbstractMagnetic properties can be manipulated to enhance certain functionalities by tuning different material processing parameters. Here, we present the controllable magnetization steps of hysteresis loops in double-perovskite single crystals of Eu2CoMnO6. Ferromagnetic order emerges below TC ≈ 122 K along the crystallographic c axis. The difficulty in altering Co2+ and Mn4+ ions naturally induces additional antiferromagnetic clusters in this system. Annealing the crystals in different gas environments modifies the mixed magnetic state, and results in the retardation (after O2-annealing) and bifurcation (after Ar-annealing) of the magnetization steps of isothermal magnetization. This remarkable variation offers an efficient approach for improving the magnetic properties of double-perovskite oxides.

We report the magnetic properties of EuxCa1-xB6 single crystals (0.756x1) studied in the wide range of temperatures (1.8-300 K) and magnetic fields (up to 50 kOe). It was found that low field magnetic susceptibility χ (T) follows the Curie-Weiss law χ~(T-Θp)-1 at high temperatures for all the concentrations studied. The effective magnetic moment of the Eu2+ ion estimated from the data diminishes from the free ion value μeff7.93μB (μB - Bohr magneton) for x=1 to μeff7.3μB for x=0.756. A universal behavior of magnetic susceptibility χ~(T-Θ)-α (α=1.5) is detected close to the Curie temperature TC in the paramagnetic state at both metallic (x>xC~0.8) and dielectric (xC.
