Understanding the Photoluminescence of Copper Aluminum Halide Phosphors

ABSTRACTAmbient temperature blue luminescence was observed under both UV and X-ray excitation during our investigation of the chemisorption of small molecules into both α- and β CuAIC14. The optical properties of the CuAIX4 (X=CI, Br) indicate a copper centered phosphorescence mechanism. The thermal history of the sample influences both which polymorph is formed and the color of the luminescence. The sorption of small molecules into the framework quenches the blue photoluminescence, which provides a useful probe of the interaction between the metal-halide framework and sorbed gases.

We report the crystal structure analyses of CaAlSi from single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction and the existence of two commensurately modulated phases, a sixfold and a fivefold modulated structure. This polymorphism seems to be correlated to the thermal history of the sample. We describe both modulated structures using a three-dimensional and a (3 + 1)-dimensional formalism.

A 42-year-old female presented in Neurology Department of Sir Salimullah Medical College with gradually worsening difficulty in talking and eating for the last four months. Examination revealed dystonic tongue, macerated lips due to continuous drooling of saliva and aspirated lungs. She had no history of taking antiparkinsonian, neuroleptics or any other drugs causing dystonia. Chest X-ray revealed aspiration pneumonia corrected later by antibiotics. She was treated with botulinum toxin type-A. Twenty units of toxin was injected in six sites of the tongue. The dystonic tongue became normal by 24 hours. Subsequent 16 weeks follow up showed very good result and the patient now can talk and eat normally. (J Bangladesh Coll Phys Surg 2006; 24: 75-78)

AbstractX-ray topography provides a non-destructive method of mapping point-by-point variations in orientation and reflecting power within crystals. The discovery, made by several workers independently, that in nearly perfect crystals it was possible to detect individual dislocations by X-ray diffraction contrast started an epoch of rapid exploitation of X-ray topography as a new, general method for assessing crystal perfection. Another discovery, that of X-ray Pendellösung, led to important theoretical developments in X-ray diffraction theory and to a new and precise method for measuring structure factors on an absolute scale. Other highlights picked out for mention are studies of Frank-Read dislocation sources, the discovery of long dislocation helices and lines of coaxial dislocation loops in aluminium, of internal magnetic domain structures in Fe-3 wt.% Si, and of stacking faults in silicon and natural diamonds.

Tin Oxide and Indium doped Tin Oxide (SnO2:In) thin films were deposited on glass and Silicon  substrates  by  thermal evaporation technique.  X-ray diffraction pattern of  pure SnO2 and SnO2:In thin films annealed at 650oC and the results showed  that the structure have tetragonal phase with preferred orientation in (110) plane. AFM studies showed an inhibition of grain growth with increase in indium concentration. SEM studies of pure  SnO2 and  Indium doped tin oxide (SnO2:In) ) thin films showed that the films with regular distribution of particles and they have spherical shape.  Optical properties such as  Transmission , optical band-gap have been measured and calculated.

The metastable zone width of an aqueous solution of KCI was measured as a function of the time and temperature of overheating above the equilibrium solubility temperature. It has been found that when the experiments follow close upon one another, the parameters of the preceding experiment affect the results of the experiment to follow.The results are interpreted in terms of hypotheses advanced in the literature to account for the effect of thermal history of solution. The plausibility and applicability of these hypotheses are assessed for the given cause of aqueous solution of a well soluble electrolyte.
