ABSTRACTA titanium-boron binary oxide has been prepared by the sol-gel method and characterized using SEM, TEM, UV-VIS reflectance, and X-ray diffraction spectroscopies. These measurements indicated that the obtained Ti/B gel with no treatment exhibited an amorphous structure. After calcination in O2, the crystalline structure of titanium oxide species in the Ti/B binary oxide was changed while boron oxide species maintained in the state of amorphous. Titanium oxide species in the Ti/B binary oxide calcined at 673 K showed an anatase phase of TiO2, and changed with the calcination temperatures from anatase phase to rutile phase. The Pt loaded Ti/B photocatalysts in aqueous suspension system decomposed water stoichiometrically under UV-irradiation. Their photocatalytic activities decreased with increasing the calcination temperature, indicating the photocatalytic activities of the Ti/B binary oxides were depended on the crystal phase of titanium oxide in the Ti/B photocatalysts.

The purpose of this research was to study phase transformation and photocatalytic properties of TiO2powders. TiO2powders were prepared by microwave-assisted sol-gel method. The prepared powders were refluxed at 18 W to 450 W for 1 h and dried at 180 W for 1 h by a conventional microwave oven. The phase transformations of powders were characterized by XRD and photocatalytic activities of powders were evaluated by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results show all samples reveal that only the anatase phase and has the crystallite size is 13.8, 10.3 and 9.2 nm when the refluxed at 180, 300 and 450 W. It was found that TiO2powders refluxed at 450 W were found to give the highest photocatalytic efficiency is about 90.06% under UV irradiation for 6 h.

One of the reported doping agent to increase TiO2 activity is Cu. In this research, TiO2 was prepared by So-Gel method. Preparation was performed by calcinaton at the temperature range of 400, 500, 600ᵒC for 2 hours with a corresponding dopan concentration of 0%, 1%, 3%, 5% mol of TiO2. The nanoparticle materials was characterized using XRD. It is found that anatase phase occur in the calcinations temperature of 400ᵒC and transform to rutile phase at 500ᵒC. The crystallite size of Cudoped TiO2 with dopan concentration of 5% are found 4.63 nm, 8.70 nm, 6.09 nm respectively at 400ᵒC, 500ᵒC, 600ᵒC.

The ZnFe2O4 and TiO2 nanocomposite films was prepared by Sol-Gel method on conductive glass, and the influence factors of it’s photoelectrocatalytic performence such as the film layer, pole and voltage was investigated. The results indicated that: the photocatalytic effects of composite films with ZnFe2O4+ TiO2+ ZnFe2O4 was the best. The decomposing ratio of methyl orange with the photoelectrocatalysis of composite films at voltage 0.2-6V all increased unstably. At the same time, the distance from films to pole plank also had the effects on the photocatalytic activities of the films.

Smooth titanium oxide nitride coatings have been deposited on carbon fibres using a non-oxide sol–gel method based on self-condensation of titanium alkylamide species. Flexible supercapacitors made from the fibres had competitive energy and power densities.

The dye-pigments and organic compounds are known as significant pollutants in wastewater of textile industrial. Among of treatment technologies, the photocatalysis using TiO2 nano particles has potential on-site process for removing the dye-pigments and organic compounds, due to no hazardous waste and inexpensive. In this work, the TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by two different methods of hydrothermal and sol-gel. Nanoparticle of TiO2 synthesized by hydrothermal method contained pure anatase phase as similar as the TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized by sol-gel method. However, the TiO2 synthesized by hydrothermal method provided the higher specific surface area and pore volume rather than the another TiO2. Further, the high efficiency 86% of methylene blue photodegradation was observed during the by using TiO2 synthesized by hydrothermal method as photocatalyst, whereas the efficiency was only 72% for TiO2 synthesized by sol-gel method.

A series of TiO2 thin films with and without Ce3+ doping were successfully obtained on microscope glass slides by sol-gel method. The photocatalytic activities of the pure TiO2 and Ce3+-doped TiO2 thin films were evaluated by the degradation of rhodamine B solution. The effects of both Ce3+ contents and annealing temperatures on the photocatalytic activities of the samples were examined. The results indicated that the TiO2 thin film with an atomic ratio of Ti:Ce=5:1 annealed at 300°C had a higher photocatalytic activity among the samples.
