AbstractDislocation velocities have been measured in both lightly and heavily HCl-doped ice single crystals using synchrotron-based, monochromatic X-ray topography. In the temperature range −10°C to −30°C, a concentration of ˜1 × 10−6M was found not to affect the mobility of either 60° or screw basal dislocations, confirming the earlier observations of C. Shearwood and R. W. Whitworth [Philosophical Magazine A65, 1992, 85]. However, heavier doping (˜1.9 × 10−4M) increased the basal dislocation velocity, compared to pure ice, by a factor of 2.6 at −16.4°C.

Cu2Te single crystal was grown by the Bridgman method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) study of Cu2Te single crystals in the temperature range of 293–893 K was performed and possible phase transitions in the mentioned range of temperature have been investigated. (Cu2Te)[Formula: see text](ZnTe)[Formula: see text] single crystals also were grown with [Formula: see text], 0.05, 0.10 concentrations and structural properties of the obtained single crystals were investigated by the XRD method in the temperature range 293–893 K. Lattice parameters and possible phase transitions in the mention temperature range were determined for (Cu2Te)[Formula: see text](ZnTe)[Formula: see text] single crystals for [Formula: see text], 0.05, 0.10 concentrations.

AbstractSpin transitions of cobalt ions in LaCoO_3 single crystals have been studied by the method of X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) at the K - and L _2,3-edges of Co^3+ ions. The orbital momentum of cobalt ions obtained for the K -edge at the 3 d level in the region of the spin transition in the temperature range from 25 to 120 K increases by a factor of approximately 1.6, whereas the slope of the magnetization curve value in the same temperature range and magnetic field increases by a factor of more than 10. XMCD experiments at the cobalt L _2,3-edges demonstrate gradual growth of the ratio of the orbital momentum to the spin one L / S from 0.48 to 0.53 in the temperature range from 60 K to 120 K.

Single crystals of lithium zinc titanate (Li2ZnTi3O8) were grown in a double-mirror type optical floating-zone furnace for the first time. Single crystals were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and Laue measurements. The ionic conductivity of the single crystals was measured in the temperature range of 400–700 K. Below 600 K, the ionic conductivity of the single crystal is one to two orders of magnitude higher than that of polycrystalline Li2ZnTi3O8. In the temperature range of 550–600 K, the temperature dependence of the ionic conductivity shows non-Arrhenius behaviour.

ABSTRACTThe electronic properties of ThO2 single crystals were studied using x-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). The XPS results show that the Th 4f core level is in an oxidation state that is consistent with that expected for Th in ThO2. The effective Debye temperature is estimated from the temperature dependent photoemission intensities of the Th 4f core level over the temperature range of 290 to 360 K. A Debye temperature of 468±32 K has been determined.

This work studies the conductivity and luminescence of ZnSe single crystals under X-ray irradiation. The experimentally derived lux-ampere characteristics of the X-ray conductivity for ZnSe crystals have a sublinear behavior within the temperature range from 8 to 420 K. The theoretical analysis of the conductivity kinetics at X-ray excitation showed that the value of maximum accumulated lightsum at deep traps does not depend on radiation intensity. However, regarding shallow and phosphorescent traps, the strength of accumulated lightsum depends on the intensity of exciting irradiation. Specifically, these shallow traps and phosphorescent traps cause the sublinear behavior of lux-ampere characteristics in the semiconductor material.

The study of radiation paramagnetic centres (RPC) arising in flux-grown KTiOPO 4 (KTP) single crystals at X-ray-irradiation at 300 K was conducted by the ESR-method in the temperature range of 3.7÷300 K . For the first time in X-ray-irradiated KTP there were found electron and hole RPC stable at room temperature and related to Ti 3+ and Al 3+ impurity, respectively.
