ABSTRACTPd colloid containing Ormocers (organically modified ceramics) have been prepared from Pd amino complexes of the type Pd[NH2CH2CH2NH(CH2)3Si(OMe)3]2ac2 by hydrolysis and condensation (sol-gel reaction) of the silane together with Si(OEt)4 and Si(OEt)3(CH2)3OCH2CHCH2O. The amino complex formation is necessary to avoid spontaneous reduction and uncontrolled colloid formations in the liquid phase. This synthesis route leads to Pd colloid containing powders and coatings on glass. By thermal curing (temperatures up to 500 °C) using different atmospheric conditions (N2, Ar, H2/N2) brown to deep black coatings on glass with transmission values from 80 to 0 % can be obtained. The average particle size can be controlled by varying the molar ratio of the used Pd salt (Pd(ac)2) and the aminosilane.

ABSTRACTWe report the elaboration of Ni doped ZnO nanoparticles prepared by a sol-gel processing technique. In our approach the water for hydrolyse was slowly released by esterification of the metal acetate with methanol followed by a supercritical drying in ethyl alcohol. Doping concentrations between 5 and 25 at% have been investigated. In the as-prepared state the powders with an average particle size of 30nm present ferromagnetic properties; thermal annealing in the 500°C to 700°C temperature range in air or oxygen modifies the magnetic properties. We ascribe the observed ferromagnetism to the presence and transformation of Ni based secondary phases.

Anatase nano-titania (nano-TiO2) was prepared by using a sol-gel process mediated in reverse microemulsion combined with a solvent thermal technique. The results show that the anatase structure appears in the calcination temperature range of 400-510°C, while the transformation of anatase into rutile takes place above 510°C. The average particle size (dP) of the nano-TiO2 increases with the rise of water/Triton X-100 molar ratio (ω) but decreases with the rise of acetyl acetone/n-TBT molar ratio (p) and n-hexanol/Triton X-100 molar ratio (m). The obtained TiO2 particles with a small size have high photocatalytic activity.

Copper doped Titanium dioxide TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by sol–gel method using titanium tetraisopropoxide and copper sulfate as precursors. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Photoluminesce spectroscopy (PL) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). XRD analysis confirms the formation of anatase titanium dioxide and average particle size was 35[Formula: see text]nm. Cu– TiO2 exhibits a shift in the absorption edge toward visible spectrum. The rate of recombination and transfer behavior of the photoexcited electron–hole pairs in the semiconductors was recorded by photoluminescence. From SEM spherical shaped nanoparticles was observed. Comparing with pure TiO2 nanoparticles, Cu doped TiO2 photocatalyst exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity under natural sunlight irradiation in the decomposition of rhodamine B aqueous solution. The maximum 97% of degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B was observed at 0.6% Cu–TiO2 within 180[Formula: see text]min. The photocatalytic efficiency of Rhodamine B of Cu doped TiO2 nanoparticle was higher than the pure TiO2, which could be attributed to the small crystallinity intense light absorption in Sunlight and narrow bandgap energy of Copper.

Abstract Nanocrystalline α-Fe2O3 is synthesized by sol-gel technique. The prepared nanomaterial was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM, TEM, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Vibrating Sample Magnetometry (VSM) and photoluminescence (PL) techniques. X-ray powder diffraction analysis confirmed the formation of α-Fe2O3. Electron microscopy showed spherical morphologies with an average particle size of 30-40 nm. The magnetic property of the prepared material was studied by VSM at room temperature. VSM study shows superparamagnetic nature of the synthesized nanoparticles. Photoluminescence (PL) emission spectra show intense broad emission band centered at 570 nm with 393 nm excitation indicating its usefulness for w-LED application. The CIE-chromaticity color coordinates of prepared material were calculated. The photocatalytic activity of the α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles was analyzed and the nanopowder exhibited good photocatalytic activity for the removal AO7 from its aqueous solution.

The scope of the present work is in enhancing the particle size, and dielectric properties of Mg-substituted Cobalt ferrites nanoparticles prepared by sol–gel auto combustion method. The different ratios of Mg-substituted Co Ferrites (Co[Formula: see text]MgxFe2O4([Formula: see text], 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.30)) are calcinated at 850[Formula: see text]C. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by powder XRD, FTIR, FE-SEM, EDX techniques and dielectric behavior. The structural parameters were confirmed from powder XRD and the average particle size is obtained from 39 to 67 nm due to the substitution of Mg[Formula: see text] which was calculated by Debye Scherrer’s formula. FE-SEM showed the surface morphology of the different ratio of the sample. The dielectric loss has measured the frequency range of 50[Formula: see text]Hz–5[Formula: see text]MHz. From electrical modulus, conductivity relaxation and thermal activation of charge carriers has been discussed.

ZnO-TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by a reverse micelle and sol-gel process. The average particle size of the colloid was below 30 nm and well dispersed in the solution. ZnOTiO2 composite membranes were fabricated by using the dip-coating method on a porous alumina support. ZnO-TiO2 composite membranes showed a crack-free microstructure and narrow particle size distribution even after the heat treatment up to 600°C. The average particle size of the membrane was 30-40nm, and the pore size of ZnO-TiO2 composite membrane was below 10 nm.

Silica matrices were prepared via acid catalysed sol-gel processing augmented with sonocatalysis. As silica precursors, a mixture of tetra-functionalized alkoxide (TMOS) and three-functionalized alkoxide methyl-trimethoxysilane (MTMS) were employed. Ionic liquid N-butyl-3-methylpyridinium tetrafluoroborate ([bmPy][BF4]), was used in various proportions, aiming to catalyse the sol-gel reactions, and to influence the mesoporous silica materials properties, serving as pore template. Small-angle neutron (SANS) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques were used to explore the xerogels and sonogels microstructure evolution as a function of the IL/Si molar ratio. The results show a strong increase of the primary particle size under the influence of the ionic liquid. Ultrasonic agitation leads to further size increase by ca. 10%.

In this work two different hydrosols were used to impregnate a commercially available cotton fabric with anatase nanoparticles to give it photocatalytic activity. To increase the activity, different pre-treatment methods were applied. The nanoparticle size was determined using dynamic light scattering and x-ray diffraction and the fabrics were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Photocatalytic activity was measured using the degradation of methyl-orange while irradiating the samples with UV light. The synthesis method allowed to produce anatase with an average particle size of 32 to 37 nm depending on the synthesis method used.

Using the data of qualitative X-ray phase analysis, it was shown that in a wide concentration range at 1223 K compounds based on silver niobate are formed in the condition of the heterovalent substitution of tungsten(VI) ions for niobium(V) ions. These compounds are isomorphic to a perovskite-type structure. Microprobe analysis data allows to determine the homogeneity of the analyzed samples and the correspondence of their experimental compositions to the theoretical ones for the formula Ag1-xNb1-xWxO3. Using the data of X-ray diffraction analysis (Rietveld method) in the Crystallography Data Analysis Software – GSAS, the crystal structure of the obtained compounds was refined. The surface morphology of samples having been obtained at 1373 K was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was shown that with an increase of Nb5+ to W6+ substitution degree for Ag1-xNb1-xWxO3 ceramic samples in the range of the (0.2≤x≤0.8) molar ratio, the average particle size for the studied compositions grows from 1.3 to 5.2 μm, respectively. For the obtained ceramic compounds based on silver niobate with a perovskite-like structure (tetragonal distortion), the temperature-frequency dependences of dielectric parameters in the range 300-900 K were studied. It was found that samples slowly cooled from 1373 K are characterized by low values of (ε ~ 10) and loss (tgδ ~ 0.004 at f = 1 kHz) at room temperature. The ceramics obtained are characterized by relatively high values of dielectric permittivity ε at low frequencies and/or high temperatures. The dielectric parameters of the obtained ceramics are similar to the characteristics of so-called "colossal" dielectric constant materials. The revealed features of the dielectric characteristics of quenched ceramics apparently result from Maxwell-Wagner relaxation at intercrystalline contacts.
