Amorphous Silicon p-i-nphotodiodes were obtained by PECVD in a reactor with a rotating substrate holder. Reverse currents as low as 5 × 10−11 A/cm2 at a bias of − 2V were measured using a guard ring electrode to minimize lateral edge currents. The devices were degraded by a Xenon flash lamp in open circuit conditions. The kinetics of the degradation process was evaluated by studying the long time dark current transient under reverse bias.

AbstractWe have observed a significant light-induced increase in the open-circuit voltage (Voc) of mixed-phase hydrogenated silicon solar cells. In this study, we investigate the kinetics of the light-induced effects. The results show that the cells with different initial Voc have different kinetic behavior. For the cells with a low initial Voc (less than 0.8 V), the increase in Voc is slow and does not saturate for light-soaking time of up to 16 hours. For the cells with medium initial Voc (0.8 ∼ 0.95 V), the Voc increases rapidly and then saturates. Cells with high initial Voc (0.95 ∼ 0.98 V) show an initial increase in Voc, followed bya Voc decrease. All light-soaked cells exhibit a degradation in fill factor. The temperature dependence of the kinetics shows that light soaking at high temperatures causes Voc increase to saturate faster than at low temperatures. The observed results can be explained by our recently proposed two-diode equivalent-circuit model for mixed-phase solar cells.

A spectrocoulometric macrocell with a direct-view optical probe was designed and constructed, where the optical signal is transferred by light-conducting glass or quartz fibres permitting to work at wavelengths above 410 or 300 nm. The method of measurement on the proposed equipment is described; it was tested in the study of the mechanism and kinetics of oxidation of Fe(bipy)32+ ions (bipy = 2,2'-bipyridyl) with the use of potentiostatic coulometric electrolysis with open-circuit relaxation at a suitable time. The primary product of electrolysis, Fe(bipy)33+, undergoes a follow-up hydrolytic reaction with the formation of a binuclear complex. The rate constant of the reaction of the first order involves the contributions, kBi, from all bases present in solution; the corresponding values for H2O, OH-, bipy, and CH3COO- ions at a ionic strength 0·5 mol dm-3 and 25 °C were determined as kOH = (5·0 ± 0·6) . 105 mol-1 dm3 s-1, kbipy = (1·3 ± 0·2) . 10-1 mol-1 dm3 s-1, kAc = (5·8 ± 1·0) . 10-2 mol-1 dm3 s-1, and kH2O is not significant with respect to experimental errors.

AbstractWe study phase domain coarsening in the long time limit after a quench of magnetic field in a quasi one-dimensional spin-1 antiferromagnetic condensate. We observe that the growth of correlation length obeys scaling laws predicted by the two different models of phase ordering kinetics, namely the binary mixture and vector field. We derive regimes of clear realization for both of them. We demonstrate appearance of atypical scaling laws, which emerge in intermediate regions.

AbstractLong-time preservation of manuscripts depends on the stability of their support. One of the most important degradation processes of paper manuscripts containing iron gall ink is the acid hydrolysis of cellulose. The heterogeneity of the distribution of their constituent materials, together with the defined position of ink as a source of degradation agents, makes it difficult to obtain reliable and detailed information about degradation processes. The aim of this study is to contribute to the knowledge of the acid degradation process by looking at the distribution of relevant variables (pH, acidity and alkaline reserve) on real untreated iron gall ink containing manuscripts at different degradation stages. The study discusses the well-known differences between surface and cold extraction pH determination. It corroborates the relationship between pH, acidity and alkalinity and degradation stages, pointing out that acidity values for some manuscripts in apparent good condition are not far from those obtained for degraded manuscripts. The results indicate that in some partially degraded manuscripts, the coexistence of acid areas and areas with an alkaline reserve which do not participate in the neutralization process is possible. The role of water as a solvent for this equilibrium has also been evaluated.

Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have drawn much attention in areas of displays and varied illumination devices due to multiple advantages, such as high brightness, high efficiency, wide viewing angle, and simple structure. However, the long-time degradation of OLED emission is a serious drawback. This degradation was investigated by past works, which pointed out that the degradation was induced by high-density currents through OLED component under the long-time operation [1][2]. Proposed by a past work [3], different reverse biases was imposed on OLED components in display frames to alleviate the long-time degradation on OLEDs. Most recently, along with the reverse bias, new pixel circuits [4][5] for AMOLED displays are designed to alleviate OLED degradation, thus successfully extending OLED life time. However, since emission luminances in different frame times during AMOLED displaying differs significantly for displaying varied images, the OLED degradation evolves in a highly unpredictable fashion. In this study, based on valid theories, the voltage across the OLED is first used as indicator for OLED degradation. Then the relation between the level of OLED degradation, in terms of OLED’s cross voltage, and the history of imposing reverse biases are precisely modeled. With the model, the degradation of the OLED under reverse bias to extend lifetime can be successfully predicted. Based on this model, engineers can then optimize the applied reverse bias on OLEDs to maximize the OLED lifetime for varied display requirement.

Two kinds of thermoplastic polyimides (PIs) were synthesized via a two-step method with 2,2-bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl]propane (BAPP), 4,4′-oxydianiline (ODA) diamine, and 3,3′,4,4′-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA), and their thermal degradation kinetics was studied by thermogravimetric analysis at different heating rates under nitrogen. Derivative thermogravimetric analysis curves indicated a simple, single-stage degradation process in PI BTDA-BAPP and a two-stage degradation process in PI BTDA-ODA-BAPP. The activation energies ( Eas) of the thermal degradation reaction were determined by the Flynn–Wall–Ozawa and Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose methods without a knowledge of the kinetic reaction mechanism. By comparing the values of Ea and weight loss temperatures, it was demonstrated that the thermal stability of PI BTDA-ODA-BAPP was superior to that of PI BTDA-BAPP.

Organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite photodetectors are gaining much interest recently for their high performance in photodetection, due to excellent light absorption, low cost, and ease of fabrication. Lower defect density and large grain size are always favorable for efficient and stable devices. Herein, we applied the interface engineering technique for hybrid trilayer (TiO2/graphene oxide/perovskite) photodetector to attain better crystallinity and defect passivation. The graphene oxide (GO) sandwich layer has been introduced in the perovskite photodetector for improved crystallization, better charge extraction, low dark current, and enhanced carrier lifetime. Moreover, the trilayer photodetector exhibits improved device performance with a high on/off ratio of 1.3 × 104, high responsivity of 3.38 AW−1, and low dark current of 1.55 × 10−11 A. The insertion of the GO layer also suppressed the perovskite degradation process and consequently improved the device stability. The current study focuses on the significance of interface engineering to boost device performance by improving interfacial defect passivation and better carrier transport.

Abstract Background: Knowledge of host immune response after natural SARS-CoV-2 infection is essential for the direction of vaccination and epidemiological control strategies against COVID-19.Methods: Thirty-four COVID-19 patients were enrolled with 244 serial blood specimens (38.1% after hospital discharge) collected to explore the chronological evolution of neutralizing (NAb), total (TAb), IgM, IgG and IgA antibody in parallel. Results: IgG titers reached a peak later (35 days postonset) than those of Nab, Ab, IgM and IgA (25 days postonset). IgM levels declined with an estimated half-life of 35 days postonset, which was more rapid than those of IgA and IgG (73-76 days postonset). All patients remained positive for NAb, IgG and IgA up to 3 months after illness onset. The relative contribution of IgM to NAb was higher than that of IgG (standardized β regression coefficient: 0.53 vs 0.48). However, the relative contribution of IgG to NAb increased and that of IgM further decreased after 6 weeks postonset. Conclusions: This study suggests that SARS-CoV-2 infection induces robust neutralizing and binding antibody responses in patients. Humoral immunity against SARS-CoV-2 acquired by infection may persist for a relatively long time.

To study the cercaria-schistosomulum transformation in vivo, underthe influence of an antischistosomal compound (oxamniquine), a model using cercarial infections into the abdominal cavity of mice was chosen. This procedure provided easy and reproducible recoveries of larvae from peritoneal washings with appropriate solutions for a long time (30 to 180 min) after inoculation. The results show that high doses of oxamniquine (given intramuscularly one hour before the infection) produce a marked delay in the kinetics of the cercaria-schistosomulum transformation. Cercariae, tail-less cercarial bodies and schistosomula were recovered from the peritoneal cavity ofdrug treated mice in numbers significantly different from those recovered from untreated mice.
