Evaluation of four curing agents of epoxy resin and their effects above their thermal and dinamomechanical properties

ABSTRACTWere synthesized four new hybrid hardener agents type amino tertiary functionalized with allyl groups from : l, 6-Hexanediamine, Diethylenetriamine, Trietilentriamine and Tris (2-aminoethyl) amine, using the basic nucleophilic substitution mechanism, replacing bromide by amino tertiary group in the presence of tetrabutylammonium bromide as phase transfer agent, producing allyl amine corresponding: ALA-4, ALA-5, ALA-6 and TRIS respectively, which were evaluated as a hardening of epoxy resin DGEBA through photopolymerization process by UV ligth curing, adding a 10, 20 and 40% molar percentage of hybrid materials and the thiol corresponding to carry out the thiol-ene reaction (TMP TMP, PTKMP) with DMPA as initiator. The resinic materials obtained, were evaluated by the technique of dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) at a heating rate of 5° C/min in a range from - 50° C to 150° C in nitrogen atmosphere. The formulations with hybrid hardening agent ALA 4- 20% -PTKMP and TRIS 10% -PTKMP were the materials with modulus 2289, 2971 Mpa and tgs of 102,103°C, respectively.

Rubber stocks, specially tires, are composed of natural rubber and synthetic polymers and also of several compounding ingredients, such as carbon black, silica, zinc oxide etc. These are generally mixed and vulcanized with additional curing agents, mainly organic in nature, to achieve certain “designing properties” including wear, traction, rolling resistance and handling of tires. Considerable importance is, therefore, attached both by the manufacturers and their competitors to be able to extract, identify and characterize various types of fillers and pigments. Several analytical procedures have been in use to extract, preferentially, these fillers and pigments and subsequently identify and characterize them under a transmission electron microscope.Rubber stocks and tire sections are subjected to heat under nitrogen atmosphere to 550°C for one hour and then cooled under nitrogen to remove polymers, leaving behind carbon black, silica and zinc oxide and 650°C to eliminate carbon blacks, leaving only silica and zinc oxide.

This paper presents a viscoelastic temperature- and degree-of-cure-dependent constitutive model for an epoxy resin. Multi-temperature relaxation tests on fully and partially cured rectangular epoxy specimens were conducted in a dynamic mechanical analysis apparatus with a three-point bending clamp. Master curves were constructed from the relaxation test results based on the time–temperature superposition hypothesis. The influence of the degree of cure was included through the cure-dependent glass transition temperature which was used as reference temperature for the shift factors. The model parameters were optimized by minimization of the differences between the model predictions and the experimental data. The model predictions were successfully validated against an independent creep-like strain history over which the temperature varied.
