ABSTRACTBlue-green emitted barium silicate phosphors, Ba4Si6O16:Eu2+ and Ba5Si8O21:Eu2+, were prepared by a conventional solid-state reaction. In these hosts, the corner-sharing [SiO4] tetrahedral formed a chain framework structure. These silicate phosphors can be efficiently excited by n-UV light, yielding an intense blue-green emission. Under excitation by near UV light, the emission bands are broader than that of the Ba2SiO4:Eu2+ phosphor.

Single crystals of the title compound, CaZn2Fe(PO4)3, were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. In the asymmetric unit, all atoms are located in fully occupied general positions of theP21/cspace group. The zinc atoms are located on two crystallographically independent sites with tetrahedral and distorted triangular-based bipyramidal geometries. Two edge-sharing triangular bipyramidal ZnO5units form a dimer, which is linked to slightly deformed FeO6octahedraviaa common edge. The resulting chains are interconnected through PO4tetrahedra to form a layer perpendicular to thebaxis. Moreover, the remaining PO4and ZnO4tetrahedra are linked together through common vertices to form tapes parallel to thecaxis and surrounding a chain of Ca2+cations to build a sheet, also perpendicular to thebaxis. The stacking of the two layers along thebaxis leads to the resulting three-dimensional framework, which defines channels in which the Ca2+cations are located, each cation being coordinated by seven oxygen atoms.

New red phosphors Na3YSi2O7:Eu3+ was prepared by a conventional solid-state reaction. This silicate phosphor can be efficiently excited by near UV light, yielding an intense red emission. Under the excitation of near UV light, the emission intensity is higher than that of a commercial red phosphor Y2O2S:Eu3+.

Zinc silicate-based (Zn2SiO4:Eu3+) long afterglow phosphors were produced by solid state reaction method. The effects of borax and Eu2O3 additive on the properties of fabricated products have been studied. The results show that, there is not much difference in phase compositions within the borax additive amount; however, their SEM morphologies are different. Borax additive can increase the grain size of the product. Some sintering phenomena could be observed in the sample with Eu2O3 addition. The fluorescence spectroscopy results indicate that, the emission peak of the sample with Eu3+ additive located at 612nm, which may be a good candidate for red phosphor applications. The luminescent mechanism of Zn2SiO4:Eu3+ is also discussed.

LiTaO3: Tm3+, Yb3+powders were synthesized by a high-energy ball-milling (HEB) method compared with the conventional solid-state reaction (SSR) method. Under the excitation of 980 nm laser, the strong blue emission (477 nm) band is observed and attributed to1G4-3H6of Tm3+. Because of it causing high local temperature and narrow particles size, increasing the contact area between the particles and improved crystallinity of the host, synthesis by high-energy ball milling show higher photoluminescence (PL) intensity compared to the solid state reaction method. In the process of mechanical milling, Tm3+, Yb3+co-doped LiTaO3phosphors with high photoluminescence property could be achieved at a relatively low reaction temperature.

Ce3+-doped 0.5La2O3-2SrO-0.5Al2O3 (LSA:Ce) phosphors had been successfully synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction method under reducing atmosphere (H2/N2 =1/5). The phase, morphologies and luminescence properties of the LSA:Ce phosphors were investigated. The emission intensity of LSA:Ce phosphors was improved by the addition of SrF2 as flux, and red shift of PL spectra peak was observed in this phosphors. Research results shown that the LSA:Ce phosphors have the potential to meet the development of white light-emitting diodes.

Abstract A new borate compound K3GdB6O12 has been prepared using a high temperature flux method and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structure can be described as a three-dimensional framework that is composed of [B5O10]5− groups, K+ ions and Gd3+ ions. In this structure, one crystallographic distinct site is mixed occupied by K and Gd atoms at the molar ratio of 1:1. Furthermore, Sm3+ ion was used as the activator to test primary of K3GdB6O12 to be used as a luminescent host matrix. A series of phosphors K3Gd1−xB6O12:xSm3+ were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. The photoluminescence properties and concentration quenching of the prepared phosphors were investigated. The results show that K3Gd1−xB6O12:xSm3+ can be efficiently excited by near-UV light. K3Gd1−xB6O12:xSm3+ might be a promising candidate for visual display and solid-state lighting as an orange emission phosphor.
