In order to analysis the mechanical properties of clinched joints of titanium alloy, three types of the clinched joints in similar and dissimilar sheets called , TA1-TA1,TA1-H62 and Al5052-TA1 were respectively studied through the method of experiment. Tensile shear tests were carried out to examine the mechanical behavior of them, the failure modes also been analysised. It can be seen in the experiment that the failure mode of the three kinds of joints were fracture of upper sheet at the neck with the minimum thickness. Comparison shows that improve the plasticity of the lower sheet can improve the quality of joint when the upper sheet was titanium alloy sheet.

The flow behavior of metastable β titanium alloy was investigated basing on isothermal hot compression tests performed on Gleeble 3800 thermomechanical simulator at near and above β transus temperatures. The flow stress curves were obtained for deformation temperature range of 800–1100 °C and strain rate range of 0.01–100 s−1. The strain compensated constitutive model was developed using the Arrhenius-type equation. The high correlation coefficient (R) as well as low average absolute relative error (AARE) between the experimental and the calculated data confirmed a high accuracy of the developed model. The dynamic material modeling in combination with the Prasad stability criterion made it possible to generate processing maps for the investigated processing temperature, strain and strain rate ranges. The high material flow stability under investigated deformation conditions was revealed. The microstructural analysis provided additional information regarding the flow behavior and predominant deformation mechanism. It was found that dynamic recovery (DRV) was the main mechanism operating during the deformation of the investigated β titanium alloy.

The improvement of high temperature materials with lower heat transfer coefficients lead to the development of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs). One of the most widely used materials for thermal barrier coatings is Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2 (Y-TZP) because of its excellent shock resistance, low thermal conductivity, and relatively high coefficient of thermal expansion. The aim of this work is to study the TBCs mechanical behavior with the addition of SiC into the suspension of Y-TZP/Al2O3 by acoustic emission (AE). Additionally, a microstructural analysis and a finite elements model were carried out in order to compare results. The coatings were made by suspension plasma spray (SPS) on metal plates of 70 × 12 × 2 mm3. An intermetallic was deposited as a bond coating, followed by a coating of Y-TZP/Al2O3 with and without 15 wt.% SiC, with thicknesses between 87 and 161 μm. The AE becomes a fundamental tool in the study of the mechanical behavior of thermal barriers. The use of wavelet transforms streamlines the study and analysis of recorded sound spectra. The crack generation arises at very low stress levels.

The hot deformation behavior and hot rolling based on the hot processing map of a nano-Y2O3 addition near-α titanium alloy were investigated. The isothermal compression tests were conducted at various deformation temperatures (950⁠–1070 °C) and strain rates (0.001–1 s−1), up to a true strain of 1.2. The flow stress was strongly dependent on deformation temperature and strain rate, decreasing with increased temperature and decreased strain rate. The average activation energy was 657.8 kJ/mol and 405.9 kJ/mol in (α + β) and β region, respectively. The high activation energy and peak stress were contributed to the Y2O3 particles and refractory elements comparing with other alloys and composites. The deformation mechanisms in the (α + β) region were dynamic recovery and spheroidization of α phase, while the β phase field was mainly controlled by the dynamic recrystallization and dynamic recovery of β grains. Moreover, the constitutive equation based on Norton–Hoff equation and hot processing map were also obtained. Through the optimal processing window determined by the hot processing map at true strains of 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6, the alloy sheet with multi-pass hot rolling (1050 °C/0.03–1 s−1) was received directly from the as-cast alloy. The ultimate tensile strength and yield strength of the alloy sheet were 1168 MPa and 1091 MPa at room temperature, and 642 MPa and 535 MPa at 650 °C, respectively, which performs some advantages in current research.

The microstructures and mechanical behavior of bulk nanocrystalline γ–Ni–xFe (n-Ni–Fe) with x = ∼19–21 wt%, synthesized by a mechanochemical method plus hot-isostatic pressing, were investigated using microstructural analysis [x-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, light emission spectrum, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and optical microscopy (OM)], and mechanical (indentation and compression) tests, respectively. The results indicated that the yield strength (σ0.2) of n-Ni–Fe (d ∼ 33 nm) is about 13 times greater than that of conventional counterpart. The change of yield strength with grain size was basically in agreement with Hall–Petch relation in the size range (33–100 nm) investigated. OM observations demonstrated the existence of two sets of macroscopic bandlike deformation traces mostly orienting at 45–55° to the compression axis, while AFM observations revealed that these bandlike traces consist of ultrafine lines. The cause for high strength and the possible deformation mechanisms were discussed based on the characteristics of microstructures and deformation morphology of n-Ni–Fe.

Magnesium alloy tailor-welded blanks(MTWBs) of AZ31 and AZ80 sheet had been manufactured by gas tungsten arc welded(GTAW), which the thickness were 0.8mm. The welding properties of Magnesium alloy sheet had been analyzed, and the technology parameters of GTAW were determined by experiment study, which was that welding thread being Φ2.0mm, welding electricity 50A, welding voltage 9V, welding rate 12—13cm/min. The research results presented that the grain in welded seam was isometric crystal, and the grains were branching crystal in heat-affected zone (HAZ). For MTWBs of AZ31and AZ80 sheet which the thickness was 0.8mm, the forming parameters were that the forming temperature of AZ31 being 190-220°C, and forming temperature of AZ80 being 310°C-350°C, and the temperature of tools is 180°C~200°C.
