Low-temperature resistivity, Seebeck coefficient, thermal conductivity, and heat-capacity measurements were performed on Ba8Ga16Sn30. This compound crystallizes in a cubic type-VIII clathrate phase, space group I¯43m, with the Baatoms residing inside voids created by a tetrahedrally bonded network of Ga andSn atoms. Ba8Ga16Sn30 exhibits semiconducting behavior above 150 K with a low thermal conductivity and thus may hold potential for thermoelectric applications.

ABSTRACTWe report transport properties of polycrystalline TMGa3(TM = Fe and Ru) compounds in the temperature range 313K<T<973K. These compounds exhibit semiconductorlike behavior with relatively high Seebeck coefficient, electrical resistivity, and Hall carrier concentrations at room temperature in the range of 1017- 1018cm−3. Seebeck coefficient measurements reveal that FeGa3isn-type material, while the Seebeck coefficient of RuGa3changes signs rapidly from large positive values to large negative values around 450K. The thermal conductivity of these compounds is estimated to be 3.5Wm−1K−1at room temperature and decreased to 2.5Wm−1K−1for FeGa3and 2.0Wm−1K−1for RuGa3at high temperature. The resulting thermoelectric figure of merit,ZT, at 945K for RuGa3reaches 0.18.

Abstract In this paper, the transport properties of a two-dimensional Lieb lattice that is a line-centered square lattice are investigated in the presence of magnetic field and spin-orbit coupling. Specially, we address the temperature dependence of electrical and thermal conductivities as well as Seebeck coefficient due to spin-orbit interaction. We have exploited Green’s function approach in order to study thermoelectric and transport properties of Lieb lattice in the context of Kane-Mele model Hamiltonian. The results for Seebeck coefficient show the sign of thermopower is positive in the presence of spin-orbit coupling. Also the temperature dependence of transport properties indicates that the increase of spin-orbit coupling leads to decrease thermal conductivity however the decrease of gap 1 parameter causes the reduction of thermal conductivity. There is a peak in temperature dependence of thermal conductivity for all values of magnetic fields and spin-orbit coupling strengths. Both electrical and thermal conductivities increase with increasing the temperature at low amounts of temperature due to the increasing of transition rate of charge carriers and excitation of them to the conduction bands. Also we have studied the temperature dependence of spin susceptibility of Lieb monolayer due to both spin orbit coupling and magnetic field factors in details.

Abstract Silicon is the reference material of microelectronics, is readily available, relatively unexpensive, and its use may take profit of a fantastic technology. This may explain why a substantial effort has focused on improving its thermoelectric efficiency, either by top-down nanostructuring or through suitable processing. In this paper we report an analysis of the electronic transport properties of heavily boron-doped nanocrystalline silicon films. High-temperature thermal treatments are confirmed to remarkably increase its thermoelectric power factor. Electrical conductivity and Hall effect measurements were carried out over the temperature range 20–300 K along with Seebeck coefficient measurements. We provide evidence of the occurrence of low-temperature hopping conduction between impurity subbands. Dopant ionization was studied as a function of temperature. Freeze-out temperature was found to correlate with the Seebeck coefficient in agreement with Pisarenko equation. This brings to the conclusion that, while untreated samples are weakly degenerate, the thermal processing reverts them into non-degenerate semiconductors, in spite of the high doping level.

ABSTRACTThe electrical and thermal transport properties (electrical resistivity, thermopower, heat capacity and thermal conductivity) of the crystalline phase of the binary Cd6Yb system has been measured over a temperature range from 10 K to 300 K. Evidence for a phase transition in Cd6Yb is observed in the electrical transport properties with distinct changes in the temperature dependence of the resistivity and thermopower around T ≈ 110K. An anomaly in the heat capacity and a thermal conductivity is also observed at this same temperature. Hysteretic behavior is not evident in the temperature dependence of any of the electrical and thermal transport properties. In addition, the elastic properties using resonant ultrasound (RUS) techniques have been investigated over a similar temperature range. A large “resonance dip” is observed in the RUS data at T ≈ 110K, which is indicative of some type of structural change in the crystalline material at this temperature. These data will be presented and discussed in context of the undergoes reversible order-disorder transition in the 1/1 cubic approximant at about 110 K, which makes the system very interesting compared to the quasicrystal phase Cd5.7Yb

In this work the results of an experimental study of Fe2Ti1-xVxSn alloys (x = 0; 0.06; 0.15; 0.2) are presented. According to the temperature dependencies of the electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity, it is established, that the studied compositions exhibit transport properties typical for semiconductors. The substitution of V at the Ti site leads to a change of the p-type electrical conductivity behavior to n-type; the pristine sample of Fe2TiSn has the best thermoelectric properties.
