ABSTRACTL-Arginine and L-Alanine aminoacids doped ADP crystals were grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique at constant temperature. The crystalline nature of the grown crystals was confirmed using powder X-ray diffraction technique. The vibrational frequencies of the grown crystals were identified using FTIR spectral analysis. Optical absorption study was carried out and a good transparency in the entire visible region was observed with the lower cutoff wavelength of 308 nm and 318 nm for the L-Alanine & L-Arginine doped crystals respectively. The transmission data has been used to evaluate the optical band gap of L-Alanine and L-Arginine doped ADP crystals and is found tobe 5.023 eV. Second harmonic generation (SHG) studies were performed by the classical Kurtz powder technique using a Nd: YAG laser operating at 1064 nm. The SHG efficiency of doped ADP is found to be higher compared to Pure ADP crystals.

AbstractNovel nonlinear optical semi-organic, potassium phthalate di lithium borate (KPDLiB) single crystals were successfully grown by the slow solvent evaporation technique. Good crystalline nature and an orthorhombic structure were confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The functional groups of KPDLiB were identified using FT-IR spectrum recorded in the range of 4000 cm−1 to 450 cm−1. UV-Vis spectrum showed transmitting ability of the crystals in the entire visible region. The photoluminescence spectrum exhibited good fluorescence emission in a visible region at 384 nm, 416 nm and 578 nm. The second harmonic generation efficiency of the grown crystal was evaluated from Kurtz powder technique.

Abstract Co-crystals of L-phenylalanine hydrochloride (LPAHCl) were grown by slow evaporation technique in the presence of manganese sulphate and cadmium chloride. Crystallinity of the grown crystals was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Optical transmission spectra showed very high transmittance in the entire visible region. The cut-off wavelength was observed at 250 nm for both the crystals. The optical band gap energy was found to be 4.37 eV and 4.31 eV for the grown co-crystals of LPAHCl with MnSO4 and CdCl2, respectively. The second harmonic generation of the grown crystals was confirmed by Kurtz and Perry powder SHG method and compared with KDP. The frequency dependent dielectric properties of the co-crystals were studied at different temperatures.

Organic single crystals of 2-amino-5-bromopyridinium-4-hydroxybenzoate (2A5BPH) were grown by slow evaporation technique at room temperature using methanol as a solvent. Functional groups present in the synthesized compound were confirmed by FTIR spectral analysis. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirms that the crystal belongs to orthorhombic system with noncentrosymmetric space group Pna21. UV–visible spectrum shows that the crystal has lower cut off wave length of 388[Formula: see text]nm with an optical band gap of 2.9[Formula: see text]eV. The dielectric and photoconductivity studies are analyzed. The powder second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency test and antioxidant studies along with quantum chemical calculations were also carried out. The compound is found to be 3 times more efficient in second harmonic signal generation than KDP. The crystal also significantly exhibits antioxidant activity against DPPH and OH radicals.

In the present work, metal (Cu2+)-substituted ninhydrin single crystals were grown by slow evaporation method. The grown crystals have been subjected to single crystal XRD, powder X-ray diffraction, FTIR, dielectric and SHG studies. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the compound crystallizes in monoclinic system with noncentrosymmetric space group P21 with lattice parametersa=11.28 Å,b=5.98 Å,c=5.71 Å,α=90∘,β=98.57,γ=90∘, andV=381 (Å)3, which agrees very well with the reported value. The sharp and strong peaks in the powder X-ray diffraction pattern confirm the good crystallinity of the grown crystals. The presence of dopants marginally altered the lattice parameters without affecting the basic structure of the crystal. The UV-Vis transmittance spectrum shows that the crystal has a good optical transmittance in the entire visible region with lower cutoff wavelength 314 nm. The vibrational frequencies of various functional groups in the crystals have been derived from FT-IR analysis. Based on the shifts in the vibrations, the presence of copper in the lattice of the grown crystal is clearly established from the pure ninhydrin crystals. Both dielectric constant and dielectric loss decrease with the increase in frequency. The second harmonic generation efficiency was measured by employing powder Kurtz method.

Optically transparent single crystals of potassium acid phthalate (KAP, 0.5 g) 0.05 g and 0.1 g (1 and 2 mol %) trytophan were grown in aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. Single crystal X- ray diffraction analysis confirmed the changes in the lattice parameters of the doped crystals. The presence of functional groups in the crystal lattice has been determined qualitatively by FTIR analysis. Optical absorption studies revealed that the doped crystals possess very low absorption in the entire visible region. The dielectric constant has been studied as a function of frequency for the doped crystals. The thermal stability was evaluated by TG-DSC analysis.

L-asparagine L-tartrate (LAT), an organic compound has been synthesized from aqueous solution and bulk single crystal has been grown by slow evaporation technique. Powder X-ray diffraction studies confirmed the monoclinic structure of the grown LAT crystal. The presence of functional groups of the grown crystal was identified by FTIR studies. Linear optical property of the grown crystal was studied by UV-Vis spectral analysis. Microhardness studies reveal that the crystal possesses relatively higher hardness compared to other organic nonlinear optical crystals. Dielectric response of the L-asparagine L-tartrate crystal was analyzed for different frequencies at various temperatures. Kurtz-Perry powder second harmonic generation test confirmed the nonlinear optical properties of the as-grown LAT crystal.

Good quality single crystals of organic imidazolium L-Tartrate (IMLT) are grown up from aqueous solution by slow solvent evaporation technique. Various structural parameters and monoclinic crystal structure have been confirmed using powder X-ray diffraction method. The presence of various functional groups has been identified by ATR-FTIR. UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy has shown more than 60% of optical transparency with the lower UV cutoff at 245nm. The optical band gap value of the material is evaluated to be 4.8 eV. Other optical parameters such as refractive index, optical and electrical conductivity, Urbach energy, extinction coefficient, and optical and electrical susceptibility have been evaluated from transmission spectrum data. The above essential parameters manifest appropriate usage of IMLT as an NLO material. The thermogravimetric analysis indicates high thermal stability of material up to 214°C. Apart from that, the dielectric study at various temperatures confirms decrement of dielectric constant and dielectric loss at higher frequencies. The efficiency of Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) is found to be 3.5 times that of the KDP crystals. A range of analysis suggests suitability and potentiality of IMLT crystal for various optoelectronic applications.

The thiourea doped lithium sulfate single crystal was grown by solution growth slow evaporation technique. The unit cell parameters of the grown crystal determined by X-ray diffraction studies indicated that the crystal belongs to a monoclinic crystal system with noncentrosymmetric space group P2. UV-visible spectral study signified that the crystal possesses an energy gap of 4.54 eV with 68% transparency in the visible region. The grown crystals were irradiated by Co-60 gamma radiations with different doses of 10 kGy, 30 kGy & 50 kGy and studied irradiation effect on powder XRD, dielectric properties, mechanical hardness, linear transmittance and second harmonic generation of the crystal. It is observed that the crystallite size, energy gap and transparency are decreased; whereas, the dielectric constant, AC conductivity, microhardness and SHG efficiency are increased upon an increase in radiation dose.

In this paper, an organic 4-nitroaniline picrate (4NP) single crystal was grown by solution growth method. Single crystal X-ray diffraction study revealed that grown crystal belongs to orthorhombic system with Pbcn space group. The solid state constants such as plasma energy, Penn gap, Fermi energy and polarizability of 4NP crystal were determined theoretically. The functional groups of the grown crystals were confirmed qualitatively from FTIR spectral analysis. The thermal decomposition and melting point of the crystal were determined from thermogravimetric analysis. The optical absorption and cut-off wavelength of the crystal were determined from UV-visible study. The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the grown crystal was measured by Kurtz–Perry SHG test using Nd : YAG laser. The laser damage threshold value of the grown crystal was estimated by multi-shot method using 1064 nm laser.

L-phenylalanine cadmium chloride (LPCC) single crystals were grown from aqueous solution using the slow evaporation solution technique. The grown crystals were analyzed through various characterization techniques. Structural study reveals that LPCC belongs to a monoclinic crystal system with the space group P1. The presences of various functional groups were identified by Fourier transform infrared analysis. Optical absorption study was carried out and complete transparency in the visible region was observed with a lower cutoff wavelength of 261 nm. The surface morphology was analyzed through scanning electron micrograph studies. LPCC is thermally stable up to 265 °C as determined by thermogravimetric – differential thermal analysis studies. Dielectric behavior as a function of frequency was examined. The mechanical behavior was studied by Vicker’s microhardness tester. To explore the nonlinear optical property, the Kurtz powder method was employed and second harmonic generation efficiency was determined.
