Flaviporus hydrophilus and Phellinus portoricensis, collected in the Parque Municipal do Morro do Finder, are reported as new records for the Atlantic Rain Forest of Santa Catarina state and for Southern Brazil, respectively. Descriptions, illustrations and notes on distribution of these species are presented.

Ten new records of Auriculariales, Hymenochaetales, and Polyporales are reported and added to the checklist of the lignocellulolytic Basidiomycetes species of the Atlantic Rain Forest in Southern Brazil (State of Santa Catarina). Trechispora mollusca (Pers.) Liberta is reported for the first time to Brazil.

All life stages of Stenochironomus atlanticus Pinho & Mendes sp. n. are described and figured. The larva mines decaying leaves held in the water of several bromeliad species (Canistrum lindenii (Regel) Mez, Neoregelia laevis (Mez) L.B. Smith, Nidularium innocentii Lemaire, Vriesea philippocoburgii Wawra, and Vriesea vagans (L.B. Smith) L.B. Smith.) in the Atlantic Rain Forest in southern Brazil [Desterro Environmental Conservation Unit (Unidade de Conservação Ambiental Desterro – UCAD), Santa Catarina Island]. Stenochironomus atlanticus is the only species in the genus found in the phytotelmata habitat, and it apparently is restricted to this environment.

This study summarizes taxonomic information on polychaetes from Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil, between25º57'S and 29º23'S, and provides species distribution records together with information on habitats, based on historicaldata and novel records from primary surveys. Rarefaction curves showed that most species were found in the shallowsublittoral (to 60 m) rather than in deep sublittoral (>60 m) or estuarine habitats. Altogether, 228 valid species belongingto 141 genera and 44 families were recorded. This inventory adds 141 new records to previous regional reports. We founda shift in occurrence of species when comparing data from the study area with data from both southward (29–33º S) andnorthward (23–26º S) sites. Few species were shared between consecutive sites: this could be a response to the regionalbehaviour of the atmosphere and water masses, with a progressive increase in the influence of subantarctic waters and a decrease in the influence of subtropical waters.

A new diagnosis for the genus Stenoterommata Holmberg, 1881 is presented and six new species are described from Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil: S. pavesii sp. nov. and S. leticiae sp. nov. from Blumenau and Balneário Camboriú; S. sevegnaniae sp. nov. from Blumenau; S. gugai sp. nov., S. peri sp. nov. and S. pescador sp. nov. from Santa Catarina Island, Florianópolis. New records of S. palmar Goloboff, 1995 from southern Brazil are provided. Information on the natural history and habitat are included for all the species. In addition, Hermacha iricolor Mello-Leitão, 1923, described from Blumenau, is transferred to Rachias Simon, 1892.

This paper describes the current distribution of Burnupia ingae Lanzer, 1991, a freshwater limpet, firstly described to Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil, showing literature revision and new records, extending the geographical distribution of B.ingae to all Brazilian regions.

Aiming to know the diversity of stingless bees in southern Brazil, a review of 27 publications, reporting sampling of stingless bees in the state of Santa Catarina, covering a period of 30 years, was performed. The studies have been related to plant formations where they took place. A total of 51 species of 17 genera were obtained, six species (with four subspecies) in the genus Melipona. The studies took place in 19 municipalities. The vegetation type where more collections were undertaken was the rain forest. Most surveys were performed in the southern and northern mesoregions. Differences in the number of species reported by different authors refer to genera Cephalotrigona, Frieseomelitta, Lestrimelitta, Melipona, Mourella, Nannotrigona, Oxytrigona, Paratrigona, Partamona, Plebeia, Scaptotrigona, Schwarziana, Tetragonisca and Trigona. The causes of the differences may include anthropogenic factors. Santa Catarina State, in view of the verified number of species, stands as the last high diversity spot for stingless bees in Brazil, in a northern-southern perspective.

A new total of nine continental gastropod forms are incorporated to the previous systematic malacological inventory of Santa Catarina's State/SC, central southern Brazil region, the species Helicina schereri Baker, 1913, Assiminea sp, Lamellaxis clavulinus (Potiez and Michaud, 1838), Lamellaxis (Leptopeas) cf. mizius Marcus & Marcus, 1968, Plekocheilus (Eurytus) sp, Rhinus cf. longisetus (Moricand, 1846), Simpulopsis cf. ovata Sowerby, 1822, Megalobulimus klappenbachi Leme, 1964, and Zilchogyra cleliae Weyrauch, 1965. Included in eight genera and seven families, raise the state record for 220 species and subspecies regionally known (190 gastropods - 148 terrestrial, 2 amphibian and 40 limnic/freshwater –, and 30 freshwater bivalves).

Melilotus albus Medik. is a cosmopolite and invasive species, native to the Old World, which in Brazil had its occurrence hitherto recorded only in the states of São Paulo, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul. This study extends its distribution to Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil, due to the recent discovery of populations in the municipalities of Florianópolis and Xanxerê. These new records are ca. 250 km distant from the nearest records, in Paraná state, also in southern Brazil.

ABSTRACT Hygrocybe conica var. conica and H. nigrescens var. brevispora were collected in the Atlantic Rain Forest of the States of Paraná and Rio Grande do Norte States, respectively. These two taxa were reported in mushroom checklists of Brazil; however, their morphological features and variations have been hitherto poorly documented. Thus, it is provided for the first time a complete description for these two Brazilian varieties. Hygrocybe conica var. conica was reported in the last century for the southeast region, more precisely from the mixed ombrophilous forests of São Paulo State. Presently, this variety is a new record for the seasonal semideciduous forests of Paraná State, southern Brazil. Hygrocybe nigrescens var. brevispora was known from coastal ecosystems of the south and southeast regions; it is also being indicated here as a new record for the northeast region.
