Cecilioides acicula (Müller, 1774), family Ferussaciidae, is native to the Palaearctic region but has been dispersed around the word by human activity. Here, we report the presence of this introduced species in La Plata city, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. This snail is largely subterranean and frequently is found in old graves in association with skeletal remains. Our samples were collected from sediments from the Municipal Cemetery of La Plata, Buenos Aires province, Argentina.

The present work extends to Argentina the distribution of Hypostomus aspilogaster originally described from Uruguay River in southern Brazil. The examined specimens were sampled in the stream Mandisoví Grande, affluent of Uruguay River in Entre Ríos province, and in Punta Lara, from Río de la Plata basin, in Buenos Aires province, Argentina. This represents the first country record for this species.

Deroceras reticulatum is a misanthropic European species spread widely throughout South America. At the moment this species is considered a 'pest' in direct sowing such as maize, soybean, sunflower, wheat, alfalfa and clovers, among others. The aim of this paper is to report the first record of D. reticulatum in the Reserva de Usos Multiples Isla Martín García, Buenos Aires province and to provide information about this species distribution in five Argentina provinces.

The present study analyzes the intestinal nematofauna of the orthopteran species Anurogryllus muticus and Neocurtilla claraziana as part of a survey work conducted in pastures from the region of La Plata to isolate entomopathogenic nematode species. Eleven nematode species belonging to the families Thelastomatidae, Travassosinematidae, Cephalobidae, Rhabditidae, and Plectidae are reported. Parasitism percentages from 0.31 to 22.71 % were observed being Blatticola cristovata and Cephalobellus magalhaesi the most prevalent species. Cephalobium nitidum, Cruznema tripartitum, and Plectus parietinus are reported for the first time from Argentina. The findings of the study contribute to a better understanding of the biodiversity status of insect parasitic nematodes of the region.

This paper reflects on the precautions to be taken into account when addressing the study, from the point of view of the social sciences, of cultures and communities. This is done through ethnographic research in a neighbourhood (barrio) of migrants from an indigenous community in the province of Chaco, in northern Argentina, who have migrated to the city of La Plata (in Buenos Aires province) and have settled on its periphery. The article starts from the idea that ethnicity comes into play, situationally, as a resource rather than as a distinct and immutable feature. Even when it is necessary to describe how notions like culture and ethnicity act in practice and what meaning they have for the actors, social researchers should not  historicize them in the specific contexts in which they are brought into play.

Necropsy on 15 specimens of white-tufted grebe, Rollandiarolland, caught in the Mar Chiquita and Chascomús lagoons (Buenos Aires province), revealed the presence of Contracaecumovale (Linstow, 1907). This nematode shows a marked specificity for podicipediform birds. The specimens were identified from morphological study on features such as cephalic and esophageal structures and caudal papillae, using both optical and scanning electron microscopy. This is the first record of C. ovale parasitizing R. rolland in Argentina.

William A. Harris ably served the United States as chargé d'affaires at Buenos Aires from June, 1846, until October, 1851, during one of the most critical periods in Argentine history. When he went to his post of duty, Argentina was suffering both from external and internal strife. France and England had intervened in affairs in the Río de la Plata, and had blockaded the coast. Relations between Argentina and two of her neighbors, Paraguay and Brazil, were strained. The government of Buenos Aires was fomenting civil war in Uruguay. There was mounting tension between Buenos Aires and the back country provinces. Public discontent prevailed within Buenos Aires Province. Foreign nationals residing there became increasingly apprehensive about the future of their business enterprises. The heavy hand of the violent caudillo, Juan Manuel de Rosas, Governor of Buenos Aires Province, was felt throughout the entire area of the Río de la Plata. His position was so strong that in most respects he controlled affairs of the whole Argentine Confederation, comprising fourteen provinces.

ABSTRACTThe research describes the advance of two research projects: PIP 2013-2015 “Innovation and cities in Information Society: processes, stakeholders and outcomes in three cities of Buenos Aires Province” and the PICT 2015-2018 “Local Development and Productive Innovation in Information Society”, both coordinated by Dr. Finquelievich. Their main objective is to analyse the relationship between cities and ICT-based socio-technical innovation processes. Medium-sized cities have become important agents in national innovation systems due to their potential to generate knowledge networks among key players. We have chosen three cities in Buenos  Aires Province: Bahía Blanca, Tandil and     La Plata.
