Abstract Background and aims Compulsive sexual behavior is characterized by extensive sexual behavior and unsuccessful efforts to control excessive sexual behavior. The aim of the studies was to investigate compulsivity, anxiety and depression and impulsivity and problematic online sexual activities among adult males and females who use the Internet for finding sexual partners and using online pornography. Methods Study 1- 177 participants including 143 women M = 32.79 years (SD = 9.52), and 32 men M = 30.18 years (SD = 10.79). The Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST), the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), Spielberger Trait-State Anxiety Inventory (STAI-T STAI-S) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Study 2- 139 participants including 98 women M = 24 years (SD = 5) and 41 men M = 25 years (SD = 4). The impulsivity questionnaire (BIS/BAS), Problematic online sexual activities (s-IAT-sex) and Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST). Results Study 1- Multiple regression analysis has indicated that a model which included BDI, Y-BOCS, and STAI scores contributed to the variance of sexual addiction rates, and explained 33.3% of the variance. Study 2- Multiple regression analysis indicated that BIS/BAS and s-IAT scores contributed to the variance of sexual addiction rates, and explained 33% of the variance. Discussion and conclusions Obsessive-compulsive symptoms contributed to sexual addiction among individuals who use the Internet for finding sexual partners. Impulsivity and problematic online sexual activity contributed to ratings of sex addiction. These studies support the argument that sex addiction lies on the impulsive-compulsive scale and could be classified as a behavioral addiction.

The Internet appears to have become an ever-increasing part in many areas of people’s day-to-day lives. One area that deserves further examination surrounds sex addiction and its relationship with excessive Internet usage. It has been alleged by some academics that social pathologies are beginning to surface in cyberspace and have been referred to as “technological addictions.” This article examines the concept of “Internet addiction” in relation to excessive sexual behavior. It contains discussions of the concept of sexual addiction and whether the whole concept is viable. This is done through the evaluation of the small amount of empirical data available. It is concluded that Internet sex is a new medium of expression that may increase participation because of the perceived anonymity and disinhibition factors. It is also argued that although the amount of empirical data is small, Internet sex addiction exists and that there are many opportunities for future research. These are explicitly outlined.

Abstract Background: The internet itself is a harmless technology. However, its overuse and misuse will expose its users to internet addiction. On the other hand, diagnosis of students’mental dysfunction is of prime importance, and their progress and academic success in the future can be prevented by this technology if not properly handled. Methods: In this descriptive and correlational study, the statistical population consisted of all students at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, of which 447 students studying in the first and second semesters of the academic year 2017-18 were selected through Cochran's Sample Size Formula and Stratified Random Sampling. As for data collection, the Young's Internet addiction Test (IAT) and Goldberg General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) were utilized. Moreover, for data analysis, the descriptive statistics (percentage, mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (T-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis) were employed in the environment of SPSS Statistical Software Version 23.0. Results: The results of the present study demonstrated that the total mean score of students’ internet addiction and mental health measured 3.81±0.88 and 2.56±0.33, respectively. The results also indicated that internet addiction correlared positively with depression whereas negatively with mental health (P<0.001). Besides, the results of multiple regression analysis revealed that the five major predictors of vulnerability to internet addictionin university students were as follows: the key reason for using the internet, faculty, depression, the main place for using the internet, and somatic symptoms. Conclusions: According to the findings of the present study, it can be concluded that students’ excessive use of the internet leads to depression, anxiety, and reduced mental health, thereby affecting their academic performance. Hence, it is suggested that further monitoring and control be exercised on how the internet is used by university students, and they should be informed of the detrimental effects of this technology in the case of misuse or overuse.

This article examines the characteristics of internet that motivate faculty members of Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University (IMSU) in Saudi Arabia to utilize the Internet in their research and instructional activities. The framework of the study was the attributes of innovations offered by Rogers. A modified instrument was adopted to collect the data and measure the attributes. The result revealed that the majority of IMSU faulty members used the Internet for research and academic activities twice a month or less, indicating a low Internet adoption rate. Multiple regression analysis showed that all attributes of innovation individually predicted Internet adoption. The combination of all attributes indicated the model could predict Internet adoption among faculty.

Young people’s use and participation in online sexual activities (OSA) has increased in the past two decades and has changed their behavior in the area of sexuality. The existing literature has some important limitations, concerning the assessment of the construct and its orientation toward problematic use, while ignoring its healthy use or social participation and its relationship with well-being. The main objective of this study was to analyze the relationships between the three types of OSA (compulsive, isolated, and social) proposed by Delmonico and Miller, as well as offline sexual behavior, and psychosexual well-being. It was also necessary to evaluate the factor structure of the Internet Sexual Screening Test (ISST). Participants were 1,147 university students of both sexes, aged between 18 and 26 years, who completed a battery of online questionnaires. The main finding of the study is that, when controlling for other online sexual behavior, different types of OSA evaluated relate differently to offline sexual behavior and to psychosexual well-being, and that most young people made healthy use and participation of OSA. It also presents a new structure of the ISST. The discussion emphasizes the need to recognize the positive consequences of OSA to implement programs for the promotion of sexual health.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between boredom proneness and some solitary sexual activities among adults such as masturbating and viewing pornographic films. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that sexual unsatisfaction and boredom proneness were significant predictors of people's engaging in such activities, and the analysis of variance revealed that highly boredom-prone individuals were more likely to engage in such solitary sexual practices than were lower boredom-prone individuals.
