Modern society requires medical schools to prepare a new generation of healthcare professionals who possess the knowledge, the skills and the competencies to adequately and quickly adapt to the changes in public health and labor market dynamics. In the transition toward the establishment of a new educational paradigm, an emphasis is placed on the purposeful, well-planned and organized individual work of the students, which is accepted and considered as an effective means for the formation of their professional competence. As such, self-employment increases choice, increases adaptability to changing living and working conditions, makes people more social, more mobile, more competitive and more motivated.

"Maritime English for professional purpose" e-course based on the LMS MOODLE was created in accordance with the requirements of modern society for the formation of communicative English competence of future maritime industry workers. Our research is devoted to the description and analysis of the work of the future maritime specialists in the e-course. One of the main elements of the course is the Forum (the exchange of questions, answers, messages etc., leaving the message, or creating questions). It is the forum that provides a two-way communication between a teacher and the cadets. The course also contains some elements of gamification (badges, games, Easter eggs, leaderboard, points etc.). Educational content is provided using a system of elements, which greatly enhance the motivation of students to study. QR code quest (a maritime subject chain of activities using two-dimensional code) helps students to find the necessary information, analyze it, organize it, solve tasks etc. Prezi's presentations have additional depth and context, increase students’ motivation to learn. The Quizzes of our course correspond to six levels of Bloom's taxonomy (knowledge, understanding, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation). The Gradebook has a clear structure: two types of tests, language competencies and additional points in a limited number. In our study, we have produced statistics on the leaders and outsiders of e-course, a comparative description of the groups studying in the course. As a result of our research it was proved that LMS MOODLE e-courses have a potential educational opportunity as an effective means for forming the foreign professional competence of future seafarers. Interactive exercises bring cadets closer to the real-life communication in the absence of a natural linguistic environment and can be used as part of the system of formation of foreign professional competence of future maritime specialists. It was also proved that the system of blended learning helps to master the English language faster and more easily.

In response to modern needs of the labor market in highly qualified specialists capable of independent and creative activities, higher education institutions are developing professional competence of students using various innovative technologies that contribute to enhancing students' cognitive position. The implementation of modern educational technologies in the system of vocational education is a necessity dictated by the conditions of a competency-based educational paradigm. The peculiarity of educational technology as an effective means of forming professional competence is to ensure the guaranteed achievement of goals. In preparing a student for professional activity, technologies that allow a student to be immersed in conditions as close as possible to professional ones are of particular relevance. The advantage of socio-gaming technologies implementation consists both in revealing a student’s capabilities, his potential, including each of them in the educational process, and in shaping students' ability to master the norms and rules of behavior in society. The purpose of the article is to review the experience of implementing socio-gaming technologies in the training of students of higher educational institutions. Communicative competence is one of the most significant elements of preparing students for both professional activities and life in society. The article presents a study to verify the level of formation of communicative competence. The level was established according to certain criteria related to inclusion in the learning process, building effective interaction with other students. Statistical analysis showed the effectiveness of the technology under consideration. An additional survey of students made it possible to establish that the game contributes to their active involvement in educational process and construction of effective communication with classmates.

ABSTRACT Recently there has been much discourse regarding the existence, extent, causes, and consequences of a purported divide between accounting practice and academia. The crux of this issue relates to the charge that many new-generation faculty have a primary focus on academic research, but lack significant practical experience or certification, and the related claim that students may lack the requisite skills upon graduation. This study addresses these concerns by examining the incidence and trend in the possession of practice credentials, experience, and other activities among accounting faculty who graduated between 1994 and 2013. We evaluate how differences in institutional focus, possession of a practice credential, and proportion of credentialed faculty manifest in research propensities, current business experience, and student performance on the CPA exam. We identify a downward trend in practice credential possession that is more pronounced at research-oriented institutions. We further find significant differences in experience and publication activity across levels of both institutional focus and possession of a practice credential. We also find that students from research-oriented universities, schools with separate AACSB accounting accreditation, and those with a higher percentage credentialed faculty perform better on the CPA exam. Other results and the role of adjunct faculty in bridging this alleged divide are also examined.

AbstractSeveral research works in the related international literature on sociology and health sciences deal with the state of health in one selected population. In these studies, the chosen sample is often connected with special jobs, especially with healthcare professionals and their working conditions. These studies predominantly examine the self-rated subjective health status using questionnaires. There are others that assess the state of health based not only on self-rated subjective indicators, but also using objective data gained by measuring. Considering the international experiences, we chose a special population in our research – healthcare professionals working in an institute for chronically ill psychiatric patients. Our choice was influenced by the fact that we wanted to include their unique working conditions when exploring and assessing their health status. Moreover, our approach was to assess the objective state of health alongside the subjective factors, as our hypothesis was that the majority of the indicators presumably coincided. The data were collected with the help of three questionnaires and some indicators of the objective health statuses were measured. The findings were processed using the SPSS 17.0 mathematical-statistical software package. Following the descriptive statistics, we applied hierarchic cluster-analysis based on results of the WHOQOLD-BREF26 life-quality questionnaire, the WHO WBI-5 Well Being Index, and on the body composition analysis. The results show the objective and subjective health status of population and the factors that influenced it; the working conditions and the interpersonal contacts in the workplace. The conclusion was that in the examined population the subjective and objective health status doesn’t coincide.

AbstractThis paper seeks to investigate and assess a particular form of relationship between the State and its citizens in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, namely that of obedience to the law and its related right of protest through civil disobedience. We do so by conducting an analysis and normative evaluation of two cases of disobedience to the law: (1) healthcare professionals refusing to attend work as a protest against unsafe working conditions, and (2) citizens who use public demonstration and deliberately ignore measures of social distancing as a way of protesting against lockdown. While different in many aspects, both are substantially similar with respect to one element: their respective protesters both rely on unlawful actions in order to bring change to a policy they consider unjust. We question the extent to which healthcare professionals may participate in civil disobedience with respect to the duty of care intrinsic to the medical profession, and the extent to which opponents of lockdown and confinement measures may reasonably engage in protests without endangering the lives and basic rights of non-dissenting citizens. Drawing on a contractualist normative framework, our analysis leads us to conclude that while both cases qualify as civil disobedience in the descriptive sense, only the case of healthcare professionals qualifies as morally justified civil disobedience.

The problem of studying the prеvalencе of allergic diseases of the eye and the search for new approaches and effective means to correct this condition does not lose its relevance. The presented data on the state of profound biochemical studies of the tear film in allergic conditions justify the expediency of the use of eye drops of a new generation. As a result of experimental studies on the effect on the lipid layer ectoine was discovered the mechanism of its therapeutic action. This paper presents compelling evidence that new eye drops based on natural molecules ectoine which are able to restore and maintain the functional state of the lipid layer of the tear film in the pharmacotherapy of аllergic diseases of anterior surface of the eye. The analyzes of multiple experimental data revealed the clear evidence of mechanisms of action on the eye and the first clinical experience with a new pharmacological agent testifies to its strong anti-inflammatory and regenerative effect due to the stabilization of the lipid layer of the tear film and the protection of the front surface of the eye tissue from the hyperosmolarity. It was confirmed by the subjective and objective reducing eye irritation and dryness in reducing itching and burning from the conjunctiva, to improve the moisture level of the surface of the eye, to reduce discomfort of the eyes. The drug can be used in children older than 2 years and adults, when wearing contact lenses, ophthalmic surgery and after an eye injury. Based on this, it can be conclude that the appearance in the arsenal of new-generation antiallergic eye drops (EYE-t) with sufficient efficacy and safety profile can be regarded as a promising alternative approach to the treatment of allergic and inflammatory eye diseases.

The article is dedicated to the analysis of a student’s role as a partner in educational process. It is grounded that sense of modern crisis in education emerged from deep contradiction between traditionally formed, essentially conservative paradigm of educational process and explosive improvement of life conditions in modern society. It is underlined that recognition of a student as a partner, as an equal participant of a dialogue becomes meaningful within system of higher education. Consideration of a student as a partner in the context of project education is underlined by taking into account other’s subject position. It becomes «technically necessary» under conditions of emerging digital civilization to convert basic knowledge into effective learning as well as to program formation of such competences, necessary for a graduating student to solve professional tasks creatively. Adjustment of educational paradigm actually forming «soft skills» primarily enables shift of education processes from traditional subject-object “stuffing students up” with information to subject-subject “students’ self-education management”; students have their research, organizational and creative (in emotional, artistic and intellectual creativity forms) tasks. Such format of educational process organization is already used and known in educational field as project education, which forms valuable cross-functional skills. The offered project education can be a form of partner approach in subject-subject educational cooperation. Considering a student as a partner, a teacher motivates both increasing of hard skills and development of soft skills.

<p>Newly qualified midwives’ self-assessment of education, clinical competence and working conditions</p><p>In Norway, post-graduate nursing programmes are being transformed into master programmes. This occurs without previous evaluation of the study programmes. The level of competence and the requirements of newly qualified are being discussed, and a mentoring programme has been suggested to ensure follow-up and development of clinical competence. In central parts of the country, newly qualified midwives have difficulties getting a permanent full time position, which affects their possibilities to develop clinical competence. An evaluation study of the midwifery program at Vestfold University College has been performed to assess its relevance for professional work, as well as mapping the respondents’ working conditions and their self-assessment of clinical competence. The method used was a survey. The respondents rate the program as good. They lack competence to manage complicated conditions related to the perinatal period, and are inadequate when it comes to issues related to women’s sexual heath. These midwives work part-time, and it may take years to get a permanent position. They rate the follow-up as newly qualified as satisfying, yet they do not feel sufficiently confident during clinical practice. Comprehensive national midwifery competence will require more full time positions and better follow-up of newly qualified. To lay the basis for the content in master programmes, there is a need for a national evaluation of the midwifery programmes and a review of the professional competence of newly qualified.</p>

The remaining useful life estimation is a key technology in prognostics and health management (PHM) systems for a new generation of aircraft engines. With the increase in massive monitoring data, it brings new opportunities to improve the prediction from the perspective of deep learning. Therefore, we propose a novel joint deep learning architecture that is composed of two main parts: the transformer encoder, which uses scaled dot-product attention to extract dependencies across distances in time series, and the temporal convolution neural network (TCNN), which is constructed to fix the insensitivity of the self-attention mechanism to local features. Both parts are jointly trained within a regression module, which implies that the proposed approach differs from traditional ensemble learning models. It is applied on the Commercial Modular Aero-Propulsion System Simulation (C-MAPSS) dataset from the Prognostics Center of Excellence at NASA Ames, and satisfactory results are obtained, especially under complex working conditions.

The work is devoted to the problem of intensification of teaching Russian as a foreign language in the process of formation and development of the lexical competence of students. The role of educational dictionaries of various types is emphasized. The Experimental Electronic Multilingual Dictionary of Military Terms is presented. It is based on ABBYY Lingvo software for teaching Russian to foreign students of military universities. His vocabulary includes a special vocabulary describing various segments of military activity (weapons, equipment, commands, military life, etc.). For each word there are translations into European languages (boi - English batttle, combat; French combat (m); Portuguese combate) and Asian languages (Laos ; Arabic ; Pashto ). The potential of an electronic multilingual dictionary in the implementation of multicultural and professionally oriented teaching of Russian as a foreign language in a non-linguistic university is identified. The role of the electronic translated multilingual thesaurus in the formation of speech professional competence, which ensures the removal of language barriers in the study of military-technical sciences by foreigners, is determined. The universality of the dictionary is characterized. It was created taking into account those national languages whose speakers receive special education in Russian military universities, and provides opportunities for the redistribution of classroom and independent work of students. Its effectiveness has been proven as a tool for modern interactive, multilingual and multicultural education.
