The article focuses on specific aspects of greening of production processes in food processing sector in Poland. It discusses relevant methods and techniques for managing the eco-friendly production process in the examined food processing enterprises in Poland, and compares the situation in the world. The purpose of the paper was also to present the results of the questionnaire on greening of producing process in food processing entities. The results of the questionnaire are preceded by a detailed analysis of different approaches to greening of production, along with an assessment of its future development according to the requirements of EU directives for food processing enterprises in Poland. The results showed that after Poland's accession to the European Union the majority of food processing enterprises implemented and intensified their efforts on water conservation, waste disposal, and reduction of energy consumption between 2010 and 2017. However, in practice, there was no considerable reduction of pollutants due to the setting of insufficient level of emission targets.

Production process design hybrid real processors opinions is vital important. Many production processes design did not consider processors needs, resulting in many failure products. Glutinous rice industries have their own particularity of production process. Glutinous rice product is a product which is a raw glutinous rice material hybrid from food processing. In Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Korean, etc. societies, glutinous rice products are an important rice product and staple food. Glutinous rice product processors have to face variable raw material (glutinous rice) costs, hence, if they know the trend of glutinous rice products and products diversity, then this would easily gain better profits when they produce these glutinous rice products. This research tries to build a better production processes through processors depth interview, aiming at glutinous rice processors for examples. In this study, a profit formula was constructed. Through in depth interview survey, there were 12 processors in Taiwan visited during 2012. It showed that health, convenience and tourism factors potentially obtained the most profits when processors produced these glutinous rice products. These raw distribution data sets of glutinous rice processors costs would be a foundation of production process design references.

Large volumes of agricultural and food processing residues are generated daily around the world. Despite the various potential uses reported for this biomass, most are still treated as waste that requires disposal and negatively impacts the environmental footprint of the primary production process. Increasing attention has been paid toward the use of these residues as alternative fillers for rubber and other large-scale commodity polymers to reduce dependence on petroleum. Nevertheless, characterization of these alternative fillers is required to define compatibility with the specific polymer, identify filler limitations, understand the properties of the resulting composites, and modify the materials to enable the engineering of composites to exploit all the potential advantages of these residue-derived fillers.

Known as the fruit and vegetable basket of the world, India ranks second in fruits and vegetables production in the world, after China. The food processing sector is one of the largest sectors in India in terms of production, growth, consumption, and export. There, however, exists a keen lack in processing and storage infrastructure and capabilities, which are essential to reducing the waste and enhancing the value addition and shelf life of the farm products. The government has ambitious plans to increase the level of processing from 6% to 20%, value addition from 20% to 35% and share in global food trade from 1.5% to 3% by 2015 (MOFPI, 2011). This will see a spike in the requirement for qualified and trained food processing professional across the food industry sectors. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the importance of education for manpower development in the food industry and how it can be used to convert unemployable graduates into employable graduates for the food industry. The authors believe that private-public alliance between the private industry and public institutions (PPP) is the need of the hour and has the potential to create tremendous impact at the national level as the graduates coming out of the universities become more versatile with practical outlook.

All companies in the world are facing global competition. In order to keep up with the competition and meet the increasing demands of the market, it is essential that they use new technologies in the production processes (i.e., to implement Industry 4.0). The chapter presents smart sensors that automatically detect errors during the production process. Smart sensors communicate via IO-Link in stable communication, whereas the technology itself offers numerous practical benefits in everyday industrial work. Sensors are excellent data collectors and highly intelligent analysts that share their knowledge with their environment through an integrated real-time IO-Link interface. With the implementation of smart sensors in production systems, they become flexible production systems, contribute to the rapid start-up of the process, are automatically adjusted, enable digital data transmission, and can verify the device and the records.

The article analyses critera applying to the choice of energy efficient high quality light sources and luminaires, which are used in Russian domestic and international practice. It is found that national standards GOST P 54993–2012 and GOST P 54992– 2012 contain outdated criteria for determining indices and classes of energy efficiency of light sources and luminaires. They are taken from the 1998 EU Directive #98/11/EU “Electric lamps”, in which LED light sources and discharge lamps of high intensity were not included. A new Regulation of the European Union #874/2012/EU on energy labelling of electric lamps and luminaires, in which these light sources are taken into consideration, contains a new technique of determining classes of energy efficiency and new, higher classes are added. The article has carried out a comparison of calculations of the energy efficiency classes in accordance with GOST P 54993 and with Regulation #874/2012/EU, and it is found out that a calculation using GOST P 54993 gives underrated energy efficiency classes. This can lead to interdiction of export for certain light sources and luminaires, can discredit Russian domestic manufacturer light sources and does not correspond to the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Authors from the Christian Right in the USA situate the September 11 attack on New York and Washington within God's intentions to bring America into the divine schedule for the end of the world. This is true of Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, and other leading figures in the ‘Christian Coalition’. This article analyses how Christian fundamentalists assess the roles of the USA, the State of Israel, Islam, Iraq, the European Union and Russia within what they perceive to be the divine plan for the future of the world, especially against the background of ‘9/11’. It argues that the ideas of the Christian Right and of President George W. Bush coalesce to a high degree. Whereas before 9/11 many American mega-church preachers had aspirations to direct political life, after the events of that day the President assumes some of the roles of a mega-religious leader.

This paper aims to explore Pakistan's geo-economic options in the difficult situation that confronts following the easing of sanctions, which added acute balance of payments pressures to its existing ailments of near-stagnant exports, a lower growth trend than in preceding decades, an unattractive climate for foreign investment, and weak social indicators. The first question explored is whether Pakistan has any opportunity of participating in a regional trade grouping. It is argued that the only conceivable way of achieving this would involve the development of SAARC, which would demand a profound transformation of Indo-Pakistani relations (though one no more profound than that realised in Franco-German relations since the founding of what is now known as the European Union). One benefit of achieving deep integration through SAARC is that this would create the possibility of Pakistan developing a serious engineering industry far more rapidly than will otherwise happen. In the absence of deep integration in SAARC, it is argued that Pakistan's best option would be a policy close to unilateral free trade, so as to place it in a position to take advantage of whatever the next generation of labour-intensive activities demanded by the world economy proves to be. Under either of those scenarios, the reestablishment of a dynamic industrial sector will require the maintenance of a competitive exchange rate, something that, it is argued, is not necessarily guaranteed by floating. The paper also discusses the role of inward direct investment in contributing to the export success of East Asia, and considers whether the expatriate Pakistani community might be capable of playing a role comparable to that played by the overseas Chinese in nurturing the Chinese export expansion of the last two decades. It is suggested that such a hope was set back by the extra-legal attempt to renegotiate power tariffs with the independent power producers in the course of 1998, and that Pakistan needs to become a country of laws rather than discretion if foreign investors, including expatriate Pakistanis, are ever to find the country an attractive export platform. While more inward direct investment would almost certainly be beneficial, the same is not true for inward financial investment, where too large an inflow can easily expose a country to very significant risks, as the East Asian crisis showed. In the long run, Pakistan needs to be prepared to repel excessive capital inflows if they materialise; but its immediate problem is still balance of payments pressure, and this seems to demand targeting a major and sustained improvement in the current account over the next several years.
