The objective: study the features of gynecological, physical history, diagnosis and treatment of patients with benign epithelial ovarian tumors (BeEOT) and borderline epithelial ovarian tumors (BEOT), determining the frequency of recurrence of ovarian tumors in the postoperative period. Patients and methods. According to a retrospective analysis of case histories of 112 women with epithelial ovarian tumors (EOT) underwent conservative or radical surgical treatment in a hospital, two groups were formed: I group – patients with benign epithelial ovarian tumors (BeEOT), which amounted to 85 (75.9%) women, and group II – patients with borderline epithelial ovarian tumors (BEOT), which amounted to 27 (24.1%) women. It was found that the main complaints of patients with EOT were pain (49.1%), abdominal distension (17%), and abnormal uterine bleeding (12.5%). The highest incidence of BeEOT (31.8%) observed in the age group of 41–50 years, while the peak incidence of BEOT (44.4%) corresponds to the age group of 51–60 years. Results. In BEOT endocrine pathology occurs significantly more frequently (p<0.05) than in BeEOT – 25.9% vs. 9.4%, respectively. Pathology of pancreatic-hepatobiliary system occurs significantly more frequently (p<0.05) in patients with BEOT compared with BeEOT – 81.5% versus 57.6%, respectively. Venous disorders (varicose veins of the pelvic organs, lower limbs, haemorrhoids) observed in BEOT significantly more frequently (p<0.05) than in BeEOT – 18.5% vs. 5.9%, respectively. EOT most often diagnosed in the period from 1 to 6 months after the first clinical manifestations with an average uptake of medical care 4.6±0.57 months. In assessing of peritoneal exudate cytogram the mesothelium cells are significantly more common for BeEOT (p<0.01) than BEOT – 79.4% versus 40.9%, respectively. Cervicitis is more likely significantly to occur in BeEOT (p<0.01) than in BEOT – 29.4% vs. 7.4%, respectively. The most common histological type among the benign tumors of the ovaries are endometriomas, which occurred in 48.2% of all BeEOT cases, and among the borderline tumors – serous tumors, which accounted for 59.3% of all BEOTs. Conclusion. The use of organ sparing surgery in EOT increases the risk of recurrence, especially in the case of endometrial histology or borderline variant of tumor. Key words: benign and borderline epithelial ovarian tumors, clinical-anamnestic analysis, diagnosis, treatment.

Chronic venous disease (CVD) is a vascular disease of lower limbs with high prevalence worldwide. Pathologic features include varicose veins, venous valves dysfunction and skin ulceration resulting from dysfunction of cell proliferation, apoptosis and angiogenesis. These processes are partly regulated by microRNA (miRNA)-dependent modulation of gene expression, pointing to miRNA as a potentially important target in diagnosis and therapy of CVD progression. The aim of the study was to analyze alterations of miRNA and gene expression in CVD, as well as to identify miRNA-mediated changes in gene expression and their potential link to CVD development. Using next generation sequencing, miRNA and gene expression profiles in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of subjects with CVD in relation to healthy controls were studied. Thirty-one miRNAs and 62 genes were recognized as potential biomarkers of CVD using DESeq2, Uninformative Variable Elimination by Partial Least Squares (UVE-PLS) and ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristics) methods. Regulatory interactions between potential biomarker miRNAs and genes were projected. Functional analysis of microRNA-regulated genes revealed terms closely related to cardiovascular diseases and risk factors. The study shed new light on miRNA-dependent regulatory mechanisms involved in the pathology of CVD. MicroRNAs and genes proposed as CVD biomarkers may be used to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

One hundred seventeen patients with hemihypoplasia and discrepancy of lower limbs length of 1 - 3 cm were examined during the period from 2008 through 2013. Series of functional tests to evaluate conditional and coordination skills as well as stabilometry in European and American variants were performed. All patients demonstrated frontal postural disorders, marked weakness of the abdominal muscles and muscles of the back that resulted caused postural imbalance that resulted in formation of myofascial trigger points and development specific pain syndrome. Stabilometry and coordination tests results showed the predominance of proprioceptive body balance control over the visual one.

Klippel–Trénaunay syndrome (KTS or KT) is an infrequently seen dermatological syndrome, which is often viewed as a triad of vascular malformation (capillary malformations or port-wine brands), venous varicosity, and soft tissue and/or bony hypertrophy. We report a case of a 12-year-old male who presented to us with the symptoms of varicose plaques over both lower limbs and was diagnosed as a case of KTS. Management is normally conservative and includes stockings for compression of the branches to reduce edema because of chronic venous insufficiency; modern devices that cause on and off pneumatic compression; and rarely, surgical correction of varicose veins with lifelong follow-up. The orthopedic abnormalities are treated with epiphysiodesis in order to prevent (stop) overgrowing of limb and correction of bone deformity.

Aim The aim of the present study was to show that an increase in weight leads to the aggravation of limited joint mobility. Method One hundred sixteen patients with varicose veins of the lower limbs and body mass index (BMI) higher than 30 kg/m2 were evaluated at the Belczak Clinic in Maringá, Brazil. All patients were evaluated by the same physician, and the goniometric readings were performed on all patients by a physiotherapist. The participants were then divided into three groups based on BMI: Group I—BMI between 30 and 40. Group II—BMI between 40 and 50, and Group III—BMI > 50. Results There is a significant difference between the groups detected. Conclusion The present findings show that an increased BMI in obese individuals with chronic venous disease is associated with a progressive limitation of ankle mobility.

Ineffectiveness or discomfort from graduated elastic compression stockings (GES) in patients with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and/or varicose veins of the lower limbs (VVLL) can depend of inappropriate counter pressure applied. Counter pressure was calculated by Doppler venous pressure index (VPI). The aim of this study was to verify the value VPI in the choice of GES. A total of 1212 LL of 606 patients subjected to VPI measurements VPI correlated with the various sites of reflux (R) and C of Clinical-Etiology-Anatomy-Pathophysiology (CEAP) classification. The difference between standing VPI the and normal values=counter pressure to be applied by GES. Questionnaire to 96 patients with CVI/VVLL wearing GES. Mean VPI values: greater saphenous (GSV)>smaller saphenous; GSV with isolated venous reflux (R) at the leg>GSV at the thigh; additional R in perforators increases VPI in all the districts; superficial R increases VPI in PT. Relation between VPI/C of CEAP: P<0.05-0.0001; 81/83/96 (97.5%) patients improved; 0 complained. R in GSV at the leg and in perforators increases VPI in deep veins. Few discrepancies VPI/CEAP can be expected. Standing VPI is highly predictive. The best choice of GES can be based on the VPI measurement.

Objective To evaluate the incidence and clinical relevance of silent nontarget occlusion (NTO) of superficial and deep veins occurring after ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS) that can be detected by serial duplex ultrasound scan (DUS). Methods This retrospective analysis evaluated the medical records of patients treated with UGFS at a private clinic in Moscow, Russia from 2015 to 2017. All patients underwent serial DUS at 1 to 2 weeks and 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after UGFS. Results During the observation period, 268 patients were treated with UGFS, using physician compounded polidocanol foam 257 lower limbs of 196 patients (73%) with varicose veins who underwent DUS at 1 to 2 weeks after the last session of UGFS (inclusion time-point): 139 women and 57 men (mean age: 44.2 ± 12.2 years) with the following CEAP clinical class distribution: C2, 74.0%; C3, 20.0%; C4, 4.5%; and C5, 1.5%. NTO at the inclusion time-point occurred in 60 limbs (23.3%) of 57 patients (28.5%) and was symptomatic only in three limbs (1.2%). Most occlusions were localized in the untreated great saphenous vein trunk ( n = 28) and the calf muscle veins ( n = 23). Overall, 72%, 44%, 29%, and 10% of all limbs and 77%, 45%, 28%, and 12% of limbs with NTO were followed up by DUS at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months, respectively. There were no cases of thrombus progression or symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE). At six months, no deep vein occlusions persisted. Conclusions The frequency of nontarget vein occlusion after UGFS revealed by serial DUS may be as high as 23.3%. These occlusions tend to resolve within six months and are not associated with symptomatic VTE.
