Foreign language teaching to medical students depends on solving various institutional problems. In this sense, its effectiveness is a variable which influences the level of education at the university. Effectiveness of academic education depends on two groups of conditions- one is the purely material aspect- the place and conditions in which education takes place, the financial resources and the second one includes the psychoemotional aspect of training- the so-called didactic costs which include the physical and emotional efforts invested in the process of training both on the side of the lecturer and student. One of the ways to improve effectiveness is by restricting didactic costs- the less the psychoemotional tension and anxiety- the better results would a student achieve. Giving the student the opportunity to “manage his/her own manner of learning” and placing the student in the centre of the educational process would inevitably lead to increasing student motivation.Another mechanism to achieve effectiveness and quality of education is through activating the inner motivation of students to learn a foreign language. The latter is influenced by factors such as concentration, attention, a feeling of complete participation in the process of training, lack of fear of failure, assuming responsibility for the achieved results etc. A new aspect of contemporary learning success is differentiation in education, introduction of the individual, personal style of learning of each student. An appropriate instrument or tool in achieving motivation is for the learning process to follow and conform to the different learning styles of students. The individual learning style implies the individual preferences in perceiving and memorizing information. The aim of the present paper is to identify these styles in students from the Medical University – Plovdiv and thus to identify their satisfaction with foreign language learning. The survey was conducted in 2017 among 140 students from 16 countries. A written questionnaire and a psychological test were used to gather the data. Determinants for satisfaction were identifies as: the material setting and technological equipment, personal characteristics of the teacher and the microclimate in the student group. An adapted LSI (Learning Style Inventory) specifically adapted for Bulgaria which includes four types of approaches to the learning process- specific experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation was used. The results are distributed according to gender, specialty, year of studies and Kolb’s learning styles- divergent, assimilative, convergent and accommodative. The leading learning style according to our survey proves to be the convergent on with women having higher values (32,14%) than men (24,28%), next comes the assimilative learning style with men having higher value (17,14%) as opposed to women (14,28%). The accommodative is next – 5% of women and 3.57% men prefer this learning style and the least proffered one is the divergent one – 3,57% of women and 2,88% of men prefer it.

The article highlights the importance of English reading as a type of linguistic activity that has great cognitive value and actually implements communicative, educational, and developmental function for high school students, and at the same time, considers the specifics of usage of innovative technologies as modern tools for English reading and learning a foreign language in general, as well as the suitability of using innovative technologies in the process of learning foreign languages at schools for high school students. There are many new methods of teaching English, and a necessary condition for choosing a particular method of teaching that is suitable for both teacher and student - knowledge of innovative learning technologies. Innovative technologies have become an integral part of a holistic educational process and can increase its effectiveness, as they affect the student's consciousness, feelings and will, form a creative personality that is able to effectively apply the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities in practice in any sphere of public life. English reading is a type of linguistic activity that allows not to imitate, but to reproduce one of the forms of real communication in English. With the help of reading in a foreign language, students get acquainted with the world of their foreign peers, with songs, poetry and fairy tales, available samples of children's fiction of the country whose language is studied. Looking at the process of reading from a psychological point of view, we can say that the process of perception and understanding of the text is directly related to thinking and memory. When a student perceives a text, he identifies the most important links in it and synthesizes them into a single whole. At the same time, memory helps logical and technical thinking. The main principles of integration of innovative technologies in the process of learning English are: movement from whole to separate, student-centred classes, purposefulness and relevance of classes, their focus on achieving social interaction facilitated by teacher’s faith in their students' success, language integration and language acquisition using knowledge from other fields of science. As a result of the use of innovative technologies, an information-rich educational process is created.

Background: New conditions of multilingualism and multiculturalism of the European society form new demands on the content and implementation of the educational process, in particular in the training of philology teachers, linguists, translators. The European Union has set an ambitious goal of forming a young generation of communicative competence in two foreign languages. To achieve this goal we should cultivate a tolerant attitude to social and cultural specificity of different ethnic communities for their harmonious coexistence in the context of globalization, and to teach young people to appreciate the cultural heritage of Europe and the world. Successful implementation of this ambitious goal, among others, is not possible without the high motivation of those who receive education in philology and linguistics, because the quality of any human activity, according to psychologists and teachers primarily depends on the needs and motivations of persons. Purpose: The purpose of the article includes the following issues: to highlight the role and place of self-sufficient linguistic puzzles as an effective tool to enhance the inner motivation of secondary language identity of the individual, to ensure the successful implementation of objectives to address challenges in education and training in the fields of language acquisition, general and applied linguistics, human and computer-aided translation; to present puzzles with different content and structure, which can be used in the educational process, with possible variants of their solution and a short description of their didactic potential. Results: Formation of the secondary language identity outside the native-speakers environment requires additional general educational motives, since in this case the speaker can successfully communicate in his native language, resorting to the foreign language only formally. Self-sufficient linguistic tasks contributing to the formation of secondary language identity, aside from being a fun intellectual challenge, expose the student to the different kinds of reasoning required when encountering a new phenomenon in a language. They develop metalinguistic reasoning and foster analytical skills that are relevant for various careers. Discussion: Self-sufficient linguistic tasks, contributing to the formation of secondary language identity, may interest teachers of the Ukrainian language, foreign languages, Ukrainian as a foreign language and may be introduced in order to diversify the educational process, to increase motivation, to develop logical thinking and analytical abilities in teaching linguistic disciplines, at different stages of language learning, and also may be more widely used in the training of specialists in the field of computer science and applied linguistics.
