<p>The taxonomic composition and quantitative characteristics of the macrozoobenthos of the largest lake in Ukraine Yalpug, were studied. In 2006-2012 some 396 samples of macrozoobenthos were collected on the littoral and sublittoral of Lake Yalpug. 183 species and subspecies of Spongia, Hydrozoa, Turbellaria, Annelida, Crustacea, Insecta, Gastropoda, and Bivalvia were found. All the species were found on the littoral, while in the sublittoral – only 47 species. For the first time, we discoeverd 46 species for the lake zoobenthic fauna. Ponto-Caspian faunal complex was represented by 19 species. The littoral species number had changed from 63 species in the upper reaches to 160 in the lower reaches of the lake. In littoral habitat the number and biomass increased from winter to summer, and in the sublittoral habitat the abundance increased from winter to summer, whereas the biomass – from winter to autumn. The most abundant were oligochaetes and chironomids, the maximum biomass was registered for molluscs. During the growing season, the average abundance and biomass of macrozoobenthos in the littoral area were 2482 ind./m² and 117.0 g/m² respectively; in sublittoral area – 1600 ind./m² and 121.0 g/m² respectively.</p>

In August 2020, taxonomic composition and quantitative characteristics of zoobenthos from 4 lakes located in the upper reaches of the R. Multa basin (the R. Ob basin) were studied. Because of the basin inaccessibility the hydrobiological information about these lakes was previously fragmentary or absent at all. The data on macrozoobenthos composition and its structure were not available. In these lakes, 49 species of benthic invertebrates from 7 classes were identified, i.e. Demospongiae (1), Turbellaria (1), Oligochaeta (3), Gastropoda (4), Euchelicerata (1), Crustacea (1) and Insecta (38). Among insects, Diptera were the most diverse (22 chironomids out of 23 species). Beetles, mayflies and caddisflies were also found. In terms of species number, abundance and biomassб chironomids were the dominant taxonomic group in the studied lakes. The species composition of macrozoobenthos consisted of species widely spread in the Palearctic and Holarctic. The investigated lakes differed in species composition of zoobenthos. When comparing the species lists of benthic animals, lakes Sredneye Multinskoye and Poperechnoye were similar at most, whereas the fauna of Lake Nizhneye Multinskoye was the most original. The studied water bodies were distinguished by poor macroinvertebrate development and thereby corresponded to ultra-oligotrophic and oligotrophic reservoir types. The oligochaete index by Goodnight and Whitley corresponded to quality class I–II, i.e. “conditionally clean” and “slightly polluted waters”. We defined the trophic structure of macrozoobenthos of lakes and identified five main trophic groups of hydrobionts (Deposit feeders, Сollectors-detritus feeders and facultative filter feeders, Collectors-obligate filter feeders, Shredders, Predators), among which Collectors-detritus feeders and facultative filter feeders dominated.

AbstractAmong Permian smaller foraminifers, the genus Dagmarita is one of the most studied due to its worldwide distribution. The detailed study of the Zal (NW Iran) and Abadeh (Central Iran) stratigraphic sections led to redescription of the genus Dagmarita and its taxonomic composition. In Dagmarita, a peculiar generic morphological character, represented by a secondary valvular projection, has been detected for the first time among globivalvulinid foraminifers. The phylogeny of Dagmarita, and in particular its ancestor Sengoerina, is discussed and the new species, D. ghorbanii n. sp. and D. zalensis n. sp., are introduced. Analogies and differences among all the species belonging to Dagmarita are highlighted and morphological features of the new taxa are shown in 3D reconstructions, useful for understanding differently oriented sections of the specimens in thin section.UUID: http://zoobank.org/3d8eb14c-7757-4cbd-877c-4bacd2d156da

Cyanobacteria are organisms which play a vital role in various molecular and biotechnological aspects in food industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, neutraceuticals, biofuel production, etc., it is necessary to understand its adaptability to various environmental conditions. Furthermore it is equally important to discover new cyanobacterial taxa and with it occasional changes in taxonomic classification, thus the author set out to study cyanobacteria in extreme climatic conditions of desert, where temperatures are mostly above 45 oC. The taxonomic composition of cyanobacteria of Masirah Island, Sultanate of Oman, was studied for the first time. The studied samples were collected during the period of 2017–2019. The ten samples belonged to two orders: Oscillatoriales Schaffner and Synechococcales L.Hoffmann, Komárek & J.Kastovsky. All of them were filamentous non-heterocyst forms. Three species belonged to the genus Leptolyngbya Anagn. & Komárek, the genera Oscillatoria Vaucher ex Gomont and Lyngbya C.Agardh ex Gomont were represented by two species each, while the genera Pseudanabena Lauterborn, Planktolyngbya Anagn. & Komárek and Geitlerinema (Anagn. & Komárek) Anagn. were one species.

This paper analyzes the current state of landscaping in Ishim. The data on the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of woody plants have been obtained for the first time; the assessment of trees and shrubs state is based on the analysis of the vitality index. A database of green plants within 21 objects in Ishim was created and analyzed. The paper also contains data on the species diversity of trees and shrubs in Ishim. It turned out that the objects under study have trees and shrubs placed in special dividing strips, linearly, in rows or in small compact groups, less often they are planted singly. The species composition is represented by 47 species from 28 genera, 16 families and 2 divisions. The biomorphological structure is represented by trees (25, or 53% of species) and shrubs (22, or 47% of species). The total composition of tree and shrub plantations, determined by the number of trunks (bushes) and the percentage of woody plants, is 2854; the composition of the preserved ones is 2 815 (99%) pieces; the ones assigned for removal are 39 (1%) pcs. The vitality index shows that among 85% of the studied objects of the town at the time of the survey were healthy, among 10% of the objects they were qualified as damaged, among 5% of them were severely damaged. Based on the results of examining crowns and trunks of woody plants, signs of diseases and pests, a plan of measures for the treatment, restoration and preservation of woody plants was drawn up and recommendations were given for caring, sanitary felling and removal of single specimens.

За багаторічними дослідженнями ехінацеї пурпурової (Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench,) сорту Зірка Миколи Вавилова та ехінацеї блідої (Echinacea pallida (Nutt.) Nutt.) сорту Красуня Прерій вперше розроблені й запатентовані методи визначення продуктивності рослин прегенеративного періоду онтогенезу. Методики засновані на регресійних моделях із високими коефіцієнтами детермінації, на підставі яких можна без пошкодження рослин провести оцінку продуктивності надземної частини та кореневої системи протягом веґетаційного періоду. Вихідними даними для розрахунків слугують показники довжини і ширини листковоїпластинки, їх кількість, а також сума температур вище 5 0С і кількість діб від сівби. On the basis of long-term researches of Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench) variety «Zirka Mykoly Vavylova» and Pale Coneflower (Echinacea pallida (Nutt.) variety «Krasunja Preriy» for the first time ever there were developed and patented the methods for determining the efficiency of plants in pregenesic period of ontogeny. The foundation of methodology was made on the studies of regression models with high coefficients of determination which allow to make the estimation of aerial parts and root system productivity for the whole growing season without damaging the plants. The input data for the calculation are the indicators of the length and width of the leaf blade, the amount and the sum of temperatures above + 5 ºC and the number of days from sowing.

Lower Badenian sediments were studied on the locality Hvozdíkova at the Diviš district, Brno. There were interpreted 4 lithofacies of Neogene (Lower Badenian) sediments (lithofacies M1, M2, Sl, and SGl). Occurrence of basal Lower Badenian clastics is connected with existence of coarse-grained delta (foreset). Overlying pelites document pelagic sedimentation of open sea. Garnet dominates in assemblage of heavy translucent minerals.Rich assemblages of foraminifers, molluscs, spines of echinoids, ostracods and shark fauna were discovered in sediments. Diversified assemblages are dominated by plankton specimens. Species Orbulina suturalis Brön., Praeorbulina glomerosa circularis (Blow) and Globigerinoides bisphericus Todd. indicate the Lower Badenian age.From the point of view of the shark fauna diversity the locality Hvozdíkova is unique; shark fauna is very rare in Lower Badenian clays, and the genera of Squaliolus and Paraetmopterus are identified for the first time. Oysters – especially species Neopycnodonte navicularis (Brocchi) – dominate in Lower Badenian sediments. Small gastropods (for example Cancellaria sp., ?Tornus sp., Rissoa sp., Alvania sp.) probably represent fossils reworked from shallow littoral area.

Three different times of sowing in conjunction with various fungicide treatments were evaluated for the management of blackleg in canola (Brassica napus L.) variety Karoo. The trials were conducted at 4 different locations in Western Australia: East Chapman, Merredin, Wongan Hills and Mt Barker, representing a range of environmental conditions. The first time of sowing was at the break of the season followed by 2 subsequent sowings about 3 and 6 weeks later. Blackleg severity was significantly reduced by 14% when sowing was delayed until the end of June or early July, however, there were yield penalties due to the shortened growing season. Yield losses from blackleg were 16, 38 and 34% for mid-May, early to mid-June and end June to early July sown crops, respectively. All the fungicide treatments substantially reduced blackleg severity and increased yields at all the locations except for East Chapman (low rainfall site). The maximum protection fungicide treatment (Jockey seed dressing at 6.6 g a.i./kg seed + Impact in-furrow at 100 g a.i./ha + 3 foliar applications of flusilazole at 100 g a.i/ha) improved seed yield by 47, 56, 46 and 16% at Merredin, Wongan Hills and Mt Barker and East Chapman, respectively, compared with the nil treatment. Averaged over time of sowing and locations, the treatments of Jockey and Impact reduced disease severities by 20 and 25% and increased seed yields by 19 and 24%, respectively. There is potential for some other fungicide treatments, such as seed dressing with Jockey in combination with foliar application of either flusilazole or prochloraz, for the control of blackleg. These investigations suggest that damage from blackleg, in some areas during some seasons, could be minimised by sowing canola crops as early as possible before the onset of maturation of pseudothecia thus avoiding major ascospore showers at the seedling stage of maximum susceptibility. However, in case of a late break of season, fungicide protection may be essential to minimise losses from blackleg, particularly if sowing moderately susceptible cultivars under moderate to high disease pressure situations.

The taxonomic richness of the marine Nematoda in coastal habitats of Brazil and similarities in generic composition among them are analysed. A complete faunal list is presented, containing 11 orders, 59 families, 294 genera and 231 species, among which 1 family, 10 genera and 87 species were discovered for the first time in Brazil. Seven habitats were considered (sandy beaches, estuaries, phytal, oceanic islands, beach rocks, salt works and artificial substrates): sandy beaches had the greatest generic richness (241), followed by estuaries (142) and the phytal environment (126). Taxonomic composition was similar to that of other coastal habitats sampled worldwide, with Chromadoridae and Xyalidae the most representative families. The three major habitats (beaches, rocky shores and estuaries), showed statistically significant differences in faunas. Estuaries were the most uniform in composition.

Some littoral species of Cladocera of Quebec were studied in a series of samples collected from March to October 1974, in three lakes at the Biology Station of St. Hippolyte. Forty-three species of Cladocera are listed, bringing to 71 the number of species known in Quebec. Sixteen are described for the first time in this region; 2 of them, known in North America, are new ones for Canada (Alona circumfimbriata Megard and A. rustica americana Flössner and Frey). Also given are some ecological, biological, and systematic details concerning the most important species.

In recent years bowl traps have gained attention as a useful method for sampling bees and are now commonly used across the world for this purpose. However, specific questions about the method itself have not yet been tested on different regions of the globe. We present the preliminary results of bowl trapping in a Semidecidual Seasonal forest fragment in southern Brazil, including the test of two different color bowls, two different habitats, and the interaction of these variables in bee species number and composition. We used blue and yellow bowls in the border and in the core trails of the forest fragment. In five sampling days between October to December bowl traps captured 745 specimens of 37 morphospecies, with Halictinae bees being the richest and most abundant group. Non parametrical statistical analyses suggested that different colors of bowl traps influenced bee richness and composition and thus, they should be used together for a more complete sampling. Different trails influenced only the composition, while the interaction with different colors did not have a significant effect. These results, as well as the higher taxonomic composition of the inventoried bees, are similar to other studies reported in the literature.
