A highly relevant problem of modern veterinary science is the study of features and mechanisms of combined action of the most common heavy metals – cadmium and plumbum and their influence on the body of humans and animals in the regions of Ukraine under technogenic pollution. The purpose of the work was to study the influence of heavy metals on the state of the antioxidant protection system of cows, in particular on the content of lipid peroxidation products (malonic dialdehyde, lipid hydroperoxides and diene conjugates), and activity of antioxidant enzymes (glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase), depending on the distance to the heaps of mines in the coal basin. The study objects were cows of black-and-white breed at the age of 3–7 years. It was established that this parameter in the place with the highest concentration of diene conjugates in the blood of cows was by 25.8 % higher compared to the place of low concentration and 12.1 % higher compared to the place with medium concentration. In the place with the highest content of lipid hydroperoxides in the blood of cows the parameter was 23.7 % higher compared to the cows from the place with the low content. The concentration of lipid hydroperoxides in the blood of cows from the place with the medium content was 16.7% higher compared to the cows from the place with the low content. The parameter from the place with the lowest content of lipid hydroperoxides in the blood of cows was 12.1% lower compared to the place with the highest content. The level of malonic dialdehyde in the blood of cows from the technogenic pollution zone in the place with the largest amount was higher by 36.2; 34.0 and 18.8 % – compared to places with medium and low levels, respectively. The activity of superoxide dismutase in the blood of cows in the place with its highest activity was 0.284 ± 0.0099 % block. reac/g Hb, and in the place with the lowest activity – 0.23 ± 0.0051 % block. reac/g Hb. The activity of glutathione peroxidase in the blood of cows in farms of the technogenic pollution zone depended on the distance to the mine. These researches will further develop effective methods of treating cows under the influence of heavy metals, in particular regarding the antioxidant system.

The results of studies of the effect of Cadmium influence on the state of the enzyme and nonenzyme system of antioxidant protection of young cattle organism, namely on the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, level of reduced glutathione, Selenium, vitamins A and E. It was determined that the feeding of young bulls with cadmium chloride in a dose of 0.04 mg / kg of body weight contributed to a decrease both, enzyme and non enzyme level of the system of antioxidant protection (superoxide dismutase by 22%, catalase - by 12%, renewed glutathione by 11%, glutathione peroxidase by 22 %, Selenium - by 18%, vitamin A - by 23%, vitamin E - by 27%,). The lowest level of the antioxidant protection system in the blood of young cattle was set at the sixteenth and twenty-fourth day of the experiment, which is due to the increased activation of lipoperoxidation processes and a disturbance of the balance between the activity of the antioxidant system and the intensity of peroxidation of lipids. The toxic effect of Cadmium contributes to the change in the stationary concentrations of the radical metabolites O2, ˙OH, NO2, which, in their turn, initiate the processes of peroxide oxidation of lipids, indicating an increase in the level of diene conjugates and malonic dialdehyde. The highest level of intermediate and final products of peroxid oxidation of lipids in the blood of young cattle was determined on the thirtieth day of the experiment, while comparing with the control group, they increased by 31 and 27%, respectively.

As clinical test material we studied the blood serum taken from clinically healthy animals (the control group) and animals with chronic inflammation of the connective tissue in an ankle joint (the experimental group). To study the antioxidant protection system enzyme component condition in cows we examined the following: catalase and glutathione peroxidase activity (as a substrate we used hydrogen dioxide and glutathione reductase), ferroxidase activity of ceruloplasmin, superoxide dismutase activity. A spectrocolorimeter «Specol 210» was used to determine the solutions absorbancy. The results shows the breakdown of membrane-bounded enzymes activity (such as glutathione reductase and superoxide dismutase). These enzymes characterize the antioxidant protection system condition. It is essential to examine the antioxidant protection system condition in animals with chronic inflammation of the connective tissue in an ankle joint to enrich our knowledge about the mechanism of metabolic disorder at this type of pathology, as well as to treat and correct possible complications.

The article presents the results of research on the state of the antioxidant defense system of piglets under nitrate-nitrite toxicosis and the action of corrective factors (methionine, phenarone and methyphene). Nitrate-nitrite load in piglets caused inhibition of the activity of enzymes of the antioxidant defense system, that indicates a decrease in the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase in the serum of testing animals. The lowest activity of antioxidant enzymes under chronic nitrate-nitrite toxicosis was on the 60th day of the experiment in the serum of piglets of the control group, where accordingly the activity of superoxide dismutase decreased by 14 %, catalase activity – by 18 %, glutathione peroxidase activity – by 12 %. Lipid peroxidation processes are activated in the blood of animals, namely the level of lipid hydroperoxides and diene conjugates increases under the conditions of experimental nitrate-nitrite load. It should be noted that the highest level of lipid peroxidation products in the serum of piglets with chronic nitrate-nitrite toxicosis was on the 60 th day of the testing, and accordingly the content of lipid hydroperoxides increased by 67 % and diene conjugates – by 33 %. Administration of methionine, phenarone and methyphene under nitrate load contributed to the activation of the antioxidant defense system compared to animals in the control group. The use of antioxidant drugs in sick piglets also contributed to the inhibition of lipid peroxidation, as indicated by a decrease in the content of lipid hydroperoxides and diene conjugates in the serum of experimental group. More pronounced antioxidant effect was shown by administrating methyphene. The mechanism of action of phenarone and methyphene is associated with the direct effect of its components on the inhibition of the absorption of metabolites that have a toxic effect on cell membranes of animals. As a result of the adsorbing action of zeolite, which is part of the drugs, in the digestive tract there is a decrease in the concentration of substances that can be substrates for lipid peroxidation, as well as removal of toxic metabolites in the blood, which are prooxidants. This process occurs by osmosis and diffusion of these substances through the capillaries of the microvilli of the small intestine and their subsequent fixation on the sorbent granules.

Recently, interest in the problem of free radical oxidation in biological membranes, which is directly related to both the normal functioning of cells and the occurrence, course and outcome of many pathological conditions, has increased again in clinical medicine. The aim was to determine the role and impact of antioxidant defense in boys with hypoandrogenism. The study involved 75 adolescents with hypoandrogenism aged 13–18 years, who underwent a complex of clinical and laboratory examinations. All patients were conducted complex of anthropometric research and determination of the degree of delayed puberty, laboratory and instrumental examination. Free radical oxidation was determined by the levels of malondialdehyde, conjugated dienes, carbonated proteins, superoxide dismutase and catalase in the serum, and restored glutathione and glutathione peroxidase in whole blood. Based on their determination, the coefficient of oxidative stress was calculated. Statistical processing of results was performed using parametric and nonparametric methods. The study of indicators of the free radical oxidation process found that adolescents with hypoandrogenism have multidirectional changes in the oxidation of proteins and lipids, namely: the level of conjugated dienes increases, the concentration of malondialdehyde remains at the level of the control group, and the level of carbonated proteins tends to decrease. As for the activity of antioxidant protection enzymes, a significant decrease in the level of glutathione peroxidase was detected, while the level of superoxide dismutase and catalase remained at the level of normative indicators. Oxidative stress accompanies and is one of the pathogenetic links in the formation or maintenance of the state of hypoandrogenism in boys. This requires the use of antioxidants, the complex of which must be selected individually.

The paper deals with the effect of herbicidal agents on accumulation of TBA-active products, lipid hydroperoxides and activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (PO) in seeds of Orzhytsa 237MV hybrid corn. In the ripening corn seeds treated with herbicides, intensification of the course of reactions of lipid oxidation of the varying degree and functioning of antioxidant protection components (SOD, PО) has been revealed. Slowed accumulation of peroxidation products recorded in ripe seeds is connected with high activity of superoxide dismutase, and stable functioning of catalase and peroxidase. The above leads to the conclusion that the action of herbicides on seeds of plants of Orzhytsa 237MV hybrid corn in their ripening process promotes the ability to proper activation of studied enzymatic protection systems and functioning thereof at the level which would ensure the restoration and maintenance of homeostasis. It is found that Harness, Meister and Adengo herbicides have the least negative impact.

Purpose: determination of the state of the antioxidant protection system of the cytosolic fraction and suspension of rat liver mitochondria after experimental ischemia and reperfusion. Materials and methods: the study was conducted using white mature rats, divided into 3 groups: the control group (n = 15); The 2nd group of animals (n = 15), from which the liver was taken after 15 minutes of liver ischemia; the 3rd group of rats (n = 15), from which the liver was taken after a 15-minute reperfusion period, followed by a 15-minute ischemic period. Mitochondrial suspension and cytosolic fraction were isolated from liver tissue. Results: the obtained research results showed the presence of certain pathobiochemical changes in the suspension of mitochondria and the cytosolic fraction after ischemia or reperfusion. In the mitochondrial suspension during the reperfusion period it was found an adaptive increase in the activity of glutathione peroxidase by 39% and glutathione reductase by 61%. In the cytosolic fraction, it was the most remarkable increase of the total antioxidant capacity by 38% already during ischemia and a progressive decrease in the level of reduced glutathione form by 26% in ischemic and 55% in reperfusion period. The change in the state of the antioxidant system occurred against the background of an increase in the number of products of oxidative modifications of biomolecules by 40% during ischemia and 2.2 times after reperfusion. Conclusion: The results indicate the need to develop not only a mitochondria-oriented correction of oxidative disorders, but also active support for the components of the cytosol, which provide the main accumulation of free radical damage products and their subsequent removal from the cell, which is essential for survival.
