The inconsistency of defining STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education is being addressed in this article. Seeing STEM education as having implications ranging from migration to workforce policies, it is vital to clarify its (inter)disciplinary structure and curriculum orientation. Using a literature review and analysis of documents, STEM education is being tracked from a post-sputnik era to more recent informal and private endeavors, revealing a multiplication of the STEM acronym and the diversification of its curriculum orientation. The findings confirm that there is no consensus on the exact scientific fields assigned to STEM, and the list of disciplines involved ranges from broad (including Social sciences, Humanities or Arts) to narrow (dominated by Natural and Formal sciences). The article implies that historical context and reforms in natural science education partly explain this inconsistency, as the subjects and their interdisciplinary relations are closely linked to overall curriculum orientation, which could be seen as cyclical in nature, swinging from child centered to labor market or subject centered curriculum, inviting to discuss modern science education not as singular STEM, but as plural STEMs viable to multiple pedagogical approaches, integration patterns and aims.

The paper deals with the problem of professionalization of University students by involving them in active research activities. The authors consider the development of the concept of higher science education and the model of training specialists to be an important element of professional competence education. The review analyzes the regularities of the formation of professionalism and the possibility of their use in higher education. According to the authors, the conception of scientific education, developed on the basis of a system-synergetic approach, could serve as a theoretical basis for the preparation of a new extended conception of natural science education for training specialists in physics, chemistry, biology, synergetics, ecology, geography, and biotechnology. The article shows that natural science education provides an opportunity for modern young people to use the methods of modern science, actively work in the relevant fields, and create. Such education, in addition to the educational component, includes an educational and scientific innovation environment and the necessary material and technical resources. Research activities of bachelors and masters are considered by us as a creative component of the formation of professionalism, innovative methods of training and collective cooperation are analyzed, and interesting work experience is promoted.

Guided by the conceptual frameworks of social support appraisal mechanisms and cultural variant perspectives, the reported experiences of 23 Black grandmothers parenting grandchildren who receive cash assistance under the current welfare program, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), were used to integrate macro- and micro-level perspectives by exploring mechanisms used to appraise social support resources within a historical context. Mechanisms of social support appraisals included personal esteem (i.e., adaptive pride, self-reliance, and personal resources) and social penetration (i.e., family respect and responsibility, reaction to myths or stereotypical views held about poor people, and normative child-centered activities) as economically poor grandmothers demonstrated strong personal integrity and familial responsibility. Grandmothers relied on a wide range of sources for formal and informal support to provide for their grandchildren. Recommendations for future research are discussed to fortify established family defenses.

The Law of The Republic of Indonesia number 14 in 2005 concerning Teacher and Lecturer opened opportunities for a fresh graduate of S1/D4 programs to become a teacher. This opportunity is a big challenge for a fresh graduate of Natural Sciences Education Program in competition against a fresh graduate of pure natural sciences program to be a teacher. This study was a literature study and observation. The purpose of this study was to explain how to prepare undergraduate students of Natural Sciences Education Program facing competition to become teachers. The result of this study showed that the mastery of pedagogical content knowledge becomes important for the students of Natural Sciences Education Program to show their advantages in employment competition.

Media have played a relevant role in society because it is through them that values and concepts of our time are incorporated by teenagers and children. It is important to un-derstand these effects as the young generation is exposed to these media and also how it would be possible to take advantage of this influence to school practices. Focused on this issue, the influence of media, in special movies, how the research in science education had been studies this trend. These work it is an art state which focuses on understands how and what kind of research related with this issue in Natural Science Education in Brazil. For this, we used the full papers presented at the ENPEC- Brazilian Conference on Research in Science Education from 1997 (date of the first meeting) to 2009 (the recently). It is expected that this knowledge will allow evaluating and redirecting these educational researches re-lated to this issue based on our results with the theme cinema and education. Beginning of the 21st century - the time of rapid changes. In 2009-2010 in Russian Education has been approved new federal state educational standards for elementary and general education. The basis of the Standard is a systemic-activity approach. The main need is to develop content and technology of education, determine the ways and means to achieve the level of personal and cognitive development of students. Systemic-activity approach as a methodological principle determines the need to study the content of any school subject as a system. Especially the great importance realization of systemic-activity approach gets into natural science education. Realization of systemic-activity approach, which provides a guaranteed achievement of planned results, is possible in applying various educational tech-nologies in science education. The scientific-methodical journal “Natural Science Education” invites the scientists and teachers to take part in discussion of problems of natural science education. Nowadays we can see the decrease of interest of youth to natural sciences and, accordingly, the low level of natural science knowledge. The modern problem of the theory and the prac-tice of the learning in the schools is the problem of the formation of the competences. The investigators of this problem define various competences. According to the new approach to the content of the natural science education it is necessary to reconsider the process of teaching. One of possible ways is the teaching on the integrative base. The integrated teaching is based on interaction of aim, content, methods, forms and results of the teaching process. The substance of the integrated teaching consists of the necessity to unite the educational subjects of different cycles: natural science, humanitarian and art-aesthetic. It is explained so that in the contents of primary (elementary) education there are different aspects of study of the environment through subjects of a natural science, humanitarian and art – aesthetic cycle. The integrated lesson is a form of realization of the integrated teaching. The teachers of pri-mary schools of Lithuania organize the new form of the integrated teaching. It is the integrat-ed day and integrated week. The journal “Natural Science Education” invites the scientists and teachers to take part in discussion of problems of natural science education. Key words: natural science education, integrative approach, teaching process, interest in science.
