Purpose The purpose of this paper is to focus on parents of children with hearing disabilities from Romania and has three objectives. First, it assesses their characteristics regarding use of communication technology. Second, it investigates their opinions regarding the importance of school-based education for healthy lifestyle promotion among their children. Third, it evaluates the availability for their involvement in educational activities using face-to-face approach and communication technology dedicated to helping parents to promote healthy lifestyle among their children, as well as factors which influence this availability. Design/methodology/approach The study was performed in October–November 2015 in two schools deserving children with hearing disabilities from North-West part of Romania. Anonymous questionnaire were filled in by 182 parents. Findings The majority of parents recognize the importance of school-based health education and more than 77 per cent totally agree that it should include issues regarding healthy nutrition, promotion of physical activity and smoking prevention. In total, 80.2 per cent of the parents declared that they are interested to participate in educational activities organized periodically at school and 66.5 per cent declared their interest in educational activities developed through communication technology in order to help them to stimulate the adoption of healthy lifestyle among their children. The availability was influenced by residence, educational level, understanding the importance of parents’ involvement, characteristics regarding the use of communication technology. Originality/value This represents the first study from Romania investigating the opinions and availability for their involvement with regard to school health education among parents of children with hearing deficiencies. The results have several implications for health education among children with hearing deficiencies and their parents.

AbstractTraditional continuous exercise, as well as low-volume high-intensity interval training in adults, have shown to offer benefits to one’s cardio-metabolic health. With the benefits of physical activity being proven without a doubt, education curricula around the world have implemented physical and health education programs with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and healthy habits. The primary objective of this study was to determine whether physical and health education, alone without any change, improved heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SP) and diastolic blood pressure (DP) of adolescents at Crescent School. HR, SP and DP of students were recorded before and immediately after they ran 1 mile, and statistical analyses were conducted to determine whether there was any difference in HR, SP and DP from baseline at the beginning of the year to Term 2, the middle of the school year. While mile-run times did improve from baseline to Term 2, SP, DP and HR did not significantly change from one term to another. This study does suggest that SP, DP and HR are not affected by physical and health education classes, but it is important to keep in mind that the sample group was already a very healthy and active group.

The prevalence of hypertension has increased throughout the year. Hypertension spreads widely because of the lack of knowledge and a healthy lifestyle. People's lifestyle which is more practical has an impact on the implementation of inappropriate hypertension diets and triggers various diseases. Based on this phenomenon, it is necessary to increase public knowledge about hypertension diets. The purpose of this activity was to provide counseling about a low-salt diet as an effort to increase knowledge of hypertension patients. The method was done by giving counseling about low salt diet through lectures to 30 hypertension patients who were routinely monitored at the Panti Rahayu Clinic. The pre test showed that almost all of the hypertension patients (80%) were in the poor category of knowledge. The post test showed that after being given counseling the knowledge of hypertension patients increased almost half (46%) were in the good category. Knowledge of hypertension patients increased after getting information through counseling activities about a low salt diet. Suggestions for clinics are expected to hold regular and periodic health education or promotion programs to provide information so as to increase the knowledge of hypertension patients.

 One of the obstacles in breastfeeding attitude is the lack of lactation communication and counseling. Breastfeeding health education is designed to enforce healthy lifestyle of breastfeeding by delivering proof based information. Flipchart media usage can be easily understood by health counsellors and clients. The study is to investigate the influence of health education using flipchart over breastfeeding attitude in post-partum mothers. This research was used a quasi experiment design with posttest only design with control group. A random assignment sampling design was used to 42 respondents which were divided into 2 groups; intervention group and control group. The samples were randomized using numbers and were divided into intervention and control group. The intervention group was given health education after delivery and questionnaires were given in intervention and control group a week after postpartum. The average score postpartum maternal behavior in the intervention group (18,43) is higher than the control group (15,14). The results of chi square test p = 0.00; RR = 3.16; CI = 1,58-6,31. External variables related to the behavior of breastfeeding is the education level of p = 0.02. Health education using flipchart significantly affects breastfeeding behavior in postpartum mothers.

Men's health behaviors and care for health are getting more explored, due to adverse statistics on morbidity, mortality and chronic diseases for this group. Men generally assess their health well, declare that they care about it, and yet, what more often they fall ill, which they could avoid by following the principles of a healthy lifestyle, including, above all, rational nutrition and physical activity. This article presents data from direct interviews with 51 men, which show that they have a lot of knowledge about health and care for it, but unfortunately it does not always transform into their health behaviors. Men are happy to talk about their health and show interest in this subject, which allows to conclude that a properly planned health education program for them would bring the desired effects in the form of greater health care.

Abstrak Remaja merupakan kelompok kesehatan prima namun rentan karena mengalami perubahan perilaku berisiko sehingga akan menentukan status kesehatan pada saat dewasa. Salah satu permasalahan kesehatan yang meningkat pada remaja adalah meningkatnya penyakit tidak menular pada remaja, misalnya obesitas, hipertensi, diabetes dan hiperkolesterolemia. Remaja perlu mendapatkan pemaparan mengenai penyakit tidak menular perlu diberikan kepada remaja guna meningkatkan kesadaran dan pemahaman remaja mengenai risiko, dampak, dan deteksi dini penyakit tidak menular pada remaja. Oleh karena itu, perlu diberikan pendidikan kesehatan sebagai dasar penerapan hidup sehat dan cara deteksi dini yang dapat dilakukan oleh remaja guna pencegahan penyakit tidak menular pada remaja. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di di SMK 2 PGRI Surakarta yang dilakukan selama 2 hari pada Bulan Juli 2019. Metode kegiatan adalah pendidikan kesehatan dan pemeriksaan komposisi tubuh dengan pengukuran indeks massa tubuh. Tiga puluh dua siswa mengikuti kegiatan ini. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan penyakit tidak menular dan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami status gizi mereka melalui pengukuran komposisi tubuh sebagai bagian dari deteksi dini penyakit tidak menular. One of the increasing health problems in adolescents is the increase in non-communicable diseases in adolescents, such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and hypercholesterolemia. Adolescents need to get exposure to non-communicable diseases to increase awareness and understanding of the risks, impacts, and early detection of non-communicable diseases in adolescents. Therefore, it is necessary to provide health education as a basis for implementing a healthy lifestyle and early detection that can be done by adolescents to prevent non-communicable diseases in adolescents. This activity was carried out at SMK 2 PGRI Surakarta which was conducted for 2 days in July 2019. The method of the activity was health education and examination of body composition by measuring body mass index. Thirty-two students participated in this activity. Evaluation results show an increase in knowledge of non-communicable diseases and the ability of students to understand their nutritional status through measurement of body composition as part of early detection of non-communicable diseases. Thus, it can be concluded that there is an increase in the knowledge and awareness of participant activities in the prevention of adolescent non-communicable diseases.�Keywords: Early Detection; Health Education; Knowledge; Non-Communicable Disease; Adolescent

The general health of Australians is a growing concern, particularly with the current focus on reducing the prevalence of preventable risk factors for disease and overweight in children and adults. Schools are becoming increasingly responsible for health promotion, and educating young people about healthy lifestyle behaviours, yet there has not been an increase in required health education training for primary school teachers. The likely place for training future teachers to adapt to the demands of a changing curriculum is during their pre service training, but the health of university students is a concern in itself. The transition to university and the university environment, with its increase in personal responsibility and culture of alcohol consumption; and the focus on competition and success in personal and academic areas can place students at risk of a multitude of health problems. In addition these students are typically at an age where risk taking is common and they rarely know or care about the consequences for their health in the future. To address these issues, a first year undergraduate health education subject was developed and delivered to all Bachelor of Education students at the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University in Australia. This subject was designed to utilise behaviour change theory and best practice in pre-service teacher preparation to focus on improving student’s personal health behaviours in order to prepare them for teaching about such health issues in schools. Program details, staff reflection and student feedback are discussed and suggestions for application in teacher education are also given.

Background: Considering the poor health literacy and high prevalence of risk factors of NCDs in the slums, health education remains prime intervention. Indeed, successful intervention requires programmes tailored not only to local needs and available resources but also the way it is implemented in the community. The objective was to assess the knowledge of NCDs and NCD care, identify the barriers that impede community level workers from providing services pertained to achieve and maintain healthy living among the community.Methods: It was a qualitative study (FGD) conducted on 30th November 2017 among community level workers of Urban Health Unit and Training Centre (UHU and TC), Chetla, Kolkata. A thematic qualitative analysis was conducted to identify significant themes in the data.Results: It was found that everyone was aware of Non-communicable Diseases. In terms of physical activity, lack of time, whereas in tobacco, it had become a habit from the young age, poor knowledge about healthy diet were the main challenges in adopting the healthy lifestyle. Health education to create awareness is crucial in tackling NCDs.Conclusions: The study revealed that the community workers were aware of the importance of health education and poor awareness regarding healthy lifestyle among people was the main challenge. By delivering holistic interventions that address multiple lifestyle risks and incorporate relapse prevention strategies, health trainers could potentially have a significant impact on control of NCDs.
