The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of multifocal contact lens correction in patients with presbyopia and myopic refractive error. The study involved 45patients with myopia ranging in age from 43 to 56years in conditions of habitual monofocal contact lens correction, a month after the selection and wearing multifocal contact lenses. Contact correction was carried out according to standard procedures taking into account the accuracy of contact lens fitting, with carrying out functional tests for the “dry eye” syndrome and evaluation of corneal epithelial thickness (Optovue, USA). The as-sessment of the following parameters of visual perception was made: far, near and middle distance (monocular and binocular) visual acuity, the spatial contrast sensitivity, stereovision (I & II Lang test), the area of binocular interaction field (binarymeter), the quality of vision (VF-14 test ). The use of multifocal contact lenses for the correction of presbyopia with the initial myopic refraction ensures high functional results at different distances. Patients with a myopic refraction, previously used contact lenses, easy pass to multifocal correction option. The greatest satisfaction by achieved vision noted in those patients who had achieved refraction (–)0.5diopters. In the selection of contact lenses in older patients the thickness of the corneal epithelium and tear film validity must be taken into account.

The quality of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) can be determined by the discrimination index (DsI), difficulty index (DI), and distractor efficiency (DE) in post exam analysis. Selection of distractors is one of the most neglected aspects of MCQ preparation. The present study evaluated the effect on DsI by replacing nonfunctional distractor (NFD) with more plausible alternatives using a quasi-experimental study model. The DsI and NFD values were obtained from the MCQ examinations that were conducted during the year 2017 from 37 courses with each containing 50 MCQ’s in the College of Dentistry, Majmaah University. The post exam analysis results were informed to the course directors and the faculty were given orientation program about replacing the NFD’s with more plausible options. In the following year (2018), sixty percent of the previous year MCQ’s were used with modified NFD’s in those questions (1100 MCQ’s). The average DsI and NFD were significantly improved from the year 2017 to 2018 (P< 0.000) with significant negative correlation between them (P<0.000). This study shows that the psychometric properties of MCQs can be improved by creating better distractors. The researchers recommend providing faculty with more training on how to use distractors effectively in MCQ writing.

Purpose This paper aims to test the idea generation capabilities of online text-based focus groups as compared to the traditional in-person focus groups using sustainability in the hospitality industry as the idea generation topic. Idea generation quantity and quality are analyzed and the theoretical and practical implications for the hospitality industry are discussed. Design/methodology/approach An experimental study tested the quality of ideas generated by online versus in-person focus groups. Participants were purposively sampled from the hospitality program at a large southeastern United States university and randomly assigned into one of two treatment groups: online text-based or traditional in-person focus groups. During both treatment groups participants generated ideas focused on sustainability in the hospitality industry. Findings The online focus group generated a comparable quantity of ideas, in addition to a similar average quality of ideas and number of good ideas. Practical implications The generation of ideas and the selection of opportunities drive the innovation process through which firms can strengthen their competitive advantage and maintain and grow market share and profitability. The results of this study may assist hospitality firms in determining which form of qualitative research delivers the highest return on investment by generating the best ideas at the lowest cost. Originality/value This paper breaks new ground by assessing the effectiveness of idea generation in online versus traditional focus groups, comparing both the quantity and quality of ideas generated from an experimental study that uses random assignment.

AbstractTo analyze using optical simulations if the proper use of a segmented intraocular lens (IOL) can improve the visual outcomes compared to the implantation of a spherical monofocal IOL. The wavefront profile of the Mplus (Oculentis) and a monofocal IOLs with the phase transformation introduced by each IOL were calculated using a Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor. In addition, the wavefront profile of schematic eye models of various keratoconus conditions was obtained and was propagated to the IOLs. The optical performance of such combination was obtained after combining ray tracing and Fourier optics. A pre-clinical validation was also evaluated incorporating clinical data from three different keratoconus eyes of three patients. The implantation of the Mplus IOL can compensate or reduce the overall coma of the eye with keratoconus improving the quality of vision compared with a spherical monofocal IOL due to lower displacements of the retinal image or tilting in keratoconus. All theoretical simulations were confirmed afterwards by mean of a preclinical validation. The use of a standard toric segmented IOL with a proper orientation and selection of the addition can improve the optical quality of the keratoconus eye compared to the use of a monofocal spherical IOL.

Abstract This article discusses the construction of an intervention program on counting principles for first grade children, as well as the pilot study that put it into practice to evaluate its applicability (quality of proposals, duration and children engagement) and dynamics (contextualization, previous motivation, activity and systematization). Initial application was performed with ten children from a state school located in Porto Alegre (RS). A field diary was the instrument used for recording the sessions progress. The results showed a clear need for adjustments in the intervention (dynamics reorganization and selection of tasks), which were then made aimed at improving the program, enabling its future application in an experimental study.

The article discusses the reasonsfor an expert to participate in legal proceedings. The gnoseological reason for that consists of the bad quality of materials subject to examination that renders the examination either completely impossible or compromises objective, reasoned and reliable assessment of the findings. The procedural reason consists ofa proscription for an expert to collect evidence himself or herself. The author investigates into the ways of how an expert can participate in legal proceedings. If the defense invites an expert to participate in the proceedings, then it is recommended that his or her involvement should be in the presence of attesting witnesses and recorded in the protocol. In the course of the legal proceedings an expert has the following tasks: adding initial data, acquiring new initial data, understanding the situation of the incident, acquiring new objects to be studied, including samples for examination. An expert’s participation in legal proceedings differs from the participation of a specialist or an examination on the scene of the incident. The author describes the tasks that an expert solves in the course of legal proceedings, the peculiarities ofan investigation experiment practices, the selection of samples for an examination, inspection, interrogation.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a telecommunications technology that is able to pass the communication service in Internet Protocol networks so as to allow communicating between users in an IP network. However VoIP technology still has weakness in the Quality of Service (QoS). VOPI weaknesses is affected by the selection of the physical servers used. In this research, VoIP is configured on Linux operating system with Asterisk as VoIP application server and integrated on a Raspberry Pi by using wired and wireless network as the transmission medium. Because of depletion of IPv4 capacity that can be used on the network, it needs to be applied to VoIP system using the IPv6 network protocol with supports devices. The test results by using a wired transmission medium that has obtained are the average delay is 117.851 ms, jitter is 5.796 ms, packet loss is 0.38%, throughput is 962.861 kbps, 8.33% of CPU usage and 59.33% of memory usage. The analysis shows that the wired transmission media is better than the wireless transmission media and wireless-wired.

This study implements the auto start control system on an electric motor 3 phase C4Feeding pump when the discharge pressure is low-low (4.3 kg /cm²). The C4 feeding pumpmotor was initially manually operated from the local control station, this was very ineffectiveand inefficient because it still relied on the field operator to operate the pump motor and whenthe plant was in normal operating it is very risk if the field operator late to operate motor then itwill impact to quality of the product, and if the delay time to operate motor is too long then planthave to shut down, therefore improvement is needed in the C4 feeding pump motor controlsystem. In this paper, various types of 3-phase motor control are explained which allow it to beapplied to the C4 feeding pump motor that are on-off, inverter, and variable speed drive andefficient selection of the three systems control of the motor. Software and hardware used in thisthesis work are DCS CENTUM VP Yokogawa.
