The global interlaboratory comparison (IC 2017) on measurements of solid-state lighting (SSL) products with goniophotometers was conducted under the International Energy Agency 4E Solid State Lighting Annex with 36 participating laboratories from 19 countries with a total of 42 goniophotometric instruments including mirror-type, near-field type and source-rotating type goniophotometers. A narrow-beam LED lamp and three different types of LED luminaires, including a street lighting luminaire, were used as comparison artefacts for measurements of 16 different quantities. These included electrical, photometric, and colorimetric quantities, and goniophotometric quantities such as centre beam intensity, beam angle, partial flux (15° cone angle), and angular colour uniformity. CIE S 025 was used as the test method. The results demonstrated overall good agreement on luminous flux and colour quantities, however, larger variations and various problems were identified in goniophotometric quantity results. Near-field type and source-rotating type goniophotometers showed equivalent accuracies overall to those of far-field mirror type goniophotometers.

The Helmke Drum test method, described in IEST-RP-CC003.2, Garment Systems Considerations for Cleanrooms and Other Controlled Environments, is used to measure particle release greater than 0.5 micrometers (μm) from cleanroom garments. During the current effort to revise IEST-RP-CC003.2, it became clear that the method as currently written required revision. Under "Description of Test Limitations," the current method mentions a 1991 interlaboratory comparison (ILC). However, results from that ILC were too variable to allow meaningful interpretation. A cursory look at the results from this 1991 ILC suggested that a re-evaluation of the data using the statistical analysis outlined in ASTM E691 might yield new insights. The Helmke Drum subcommittee of IEST Working Group 003 proposed several changes to the method and a second ILC was conducted in 2001, in which six participating laboratories tested garments per the revised method. A comparison of the statistical analysis of the 2001 results with the statistical analysis of the 1991 ILC shows the revised method yields more repeatable and more reproducible results. The proposed revisions to the method are expected to be adopted by the IEST Working Group and incorporated into the rewrite of the Recommended Practice.

Context.—Data collection and analysis of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Interlaboratory Comparison Program (Proficiency Testing) J-Survey results provide insights into North American pretransfusion compatibility testing practices and trends. Objectives.—To assess current North American manual testing practices for ABO grouping, rhesus (Rh) typing, antibody screening, and crossmatching using CAP proficiency testing data. Design.—Analysis of the CAP Interlaboratory Comparison Program J-Survey data (2005–2010) to identify laboratory methods used for ABO grouping, Rh typing, antibody screening, and crossmatching. Data were analyzed by test method using Microsoft (Redmond, Washington) Excel software. Results.—The method used most often in ABO grouping and Rh typing was tube testing. Many laboratories also used tube testing for antibody detection and crossmatching, but during the study period, the proportion of laboratories using gel-based methodologies increased considerably. Conclusions.—Most North American CAP laboratories continue to use tube methods for ABO/Rh testing. Use of gel-based methodologies increased during the past 5 years for antibody screening and crossmatching.

The Difference

To establish an international standard on the electronic testing method for raw silk, the interlaboratory comparison tests of the electronic testing method for raw silk are done. Five lots of soaked silk are sampled and tested by four machines of the same type in four labs, 13 items including the defects and evenness information of each lot of silk are measured. The analysis of variance and multiple comparison procedure are used to find whether there exist significant differences among the four machines; and the result shows that there are no significant differences among the machines in testing these items except for the item of IPMe by optical sensor. The reason for the difference is analyzed, and the measure for dismissing the difference is proposed.
