A static frequency converter start-up control strategy for pumped-storage power unit is presented. And rotor position detecting without position sensor is realized according to voltage and magnetism equations of ideal synchronous motor mathematics model. The mechanism and implementation method of initial rotor position determination and rotor position estimation under low frequency without position sensor are expounded and validated by simulations. Based on the mentioned control strategy, first set of a static frequency converter start-up device in China for large-scale pumped-storage unit is developed, which is applied to start-up control test in the 90 MW generator/motor of Panjiakou Pumped-storage Power Plant. Test results show that rotor position detecting, pulse commutation, natural commutation, and unit synchronous procedure control of static start-up are all proved. The outcomes have been applied in running equipment, which proves the feasibility of mentioned method.

It will cover the feasibility study, cooling system options, overview, system equipment description, process flow diagram, construction, commissioning, start-up and performance of the project which is currently under commissioning and initial start up at Qassim Central Power Plant (QCPP) owned by Saudi Electric Company (S.E.C.) Central Region Branch.

A new method for determining allowable medium temperature during transient operation of thick-walled elements in a supercritical power plantConstruction elements of supercritical power plants are subjected to high working pressures and high temperatures while operating. Under these conditions high stresses in the construction are created. In order to operate safely, it is important to monitor stresses, especially during start-up and shut-down processes. The maximum stresses in the construction elements should not exceed the allowable stress limit. The goal is to find optimum operating parameters that can assure safe heating and cooling processes [1-5]. The optimum parameters should guarantee that the allowable stresses are not exceeded and the entire process is conducted in the shortest time. In this work new numerical method for determining optimum working parameters is presented. Based on these parameters heating operations were conducted. Stresses were monitored during the entire processes. The results obtained were compared with the German boiler regulations - Technische Regeln für Dampfkessel 301.

Rio Paraopeba, a tributary of rio São Francisco, has a six-meter high dam, built in 1978 to divert water to the Igarapé Thermal Power Plant. In 1994, a fish ladder was built at this dam. The results of a marking and recapture program carried out along rio Paraopeba between 1997 and 2001 are described, using information from fish community studies conducted at ten sampling stations between 1994 and 1997. These investigations showed the presence of at least 91 species in the river. During four rainy seasons between 1997 and 2000, fish were caught downstream of the dam, marked with external plastic tags, and immediately released at the same site. The objective was to evaluate fish passage through the ladder, based on recapture information from artisanal and sport fishermen. A total of 3,642 specimens were marked, adding up to a biomass of approximately 1.33 tons. Twenty-six species were used, representing 28.5% of the total recorded richness (91 species). Maximum recorded tag retention time was 10 months. Total recapture rate was 4.37% in four years, reaching 5.75% in the last period (2000-2001). Of all recaptured specimens, 14.0% were caught upstream of the dam, evidencing passage through the ladder. The specimens recaptured upstream of the dam belonged to three species: piau-verdadeiro (Leporinus obtusidens), mandi-amarelo (Pimelodus maculatus) and curimatá-pioa (Prochilodus costatus). These species showed linear home ranges of 15.4, 81.5 and 232.0 km, respectively. Most recaptures occurred immediately downstream of the dam, one of the most intensely fished stretches of rio Paraopeba.

Pinusponderosa Laws. foliage from a relatively nonpolluted area (SO2 ≤ 5.2 μg/m3, annual average) was compared with foliage from a more polluted area (75 μg/m3, annual maximum average) over a 6-year period. Total sulfur and fluoride concentrations, frequencies of basal needle injury and healthy needles, and percent needle surface area affected (chlorotic and necrotic) classified as tip necrosis, mottle, and total necrosis were substantially higher at the polluted site and were judged to be sensitive characteristics. Two years following study inception, the first 700 MW of a planned 2100-MW coal-fired electric generating facility began operating in the nonpolluted area. No consistent changes were noted in the foliar characteristics measured in the nonpolluted area since power-plant start-up, and it is concluded that the facility's emissions did not measurably impact the pine ecosystem during the early years of operation.

The daily operation of combined-cycle power plants is increasingly characterized by frequent start-up and shutdown procedures. In addition to the basic requirement of high efficiency at design load, plant operators therefore acknowledge the relevance of enhanced flexibility in operation — in particular, fast start-ups — for plant competitiveness under changing market conditions. The load ramps during start-up procedure are typically limited by thermal stresses in the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) due to thick-walled components in the high pressure circuit. Whereas conventional HRSG design is largely based on simple steady-state models, detailed modelling and dynamic simulation of the relevant systems are necessary in order to optimize HRSG design with respect to fast start-up capability. This study investigates the capability of a comprehensive process simulation model to accurately predict the dynamic response of a triple-pressure heat recovery steam generator with reheater from warm and hot initial conditions to the start-up procedure of a heavy-duty gas turbine. The commercial combined-cycle power plant (350 MWel) was modelled with the thermal-hydraulic code Apros. Development of the plant model is based on geometry data, system descriptions and heat transfer calculations established in the original HRSG design. The numerical model is validated with two independent sets of measurement data recorded at the real power plant, showing good agreement.
