Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) of the oil allows transformer fault diagnosis and status monitoring. Fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering is an effective pattern recognition method, but exhibits poor clustering accuracy for dissolved gas data and usually fails to subsequently correctly classify transformer faults. The existing feasible approach involves combination of the FCM clustering algorithm with other intelligent algorithms, such as neural networks and support vector machines. This method enables good classification; however, the algorithm complexity is greatly increased. In this paper, the FCM clustering algorithm itself is improved and clustering analysis of DGA data is realized. First, the non-monotonicity of the traditional clustering membership function with respect to the sample distance and its several local extrema are discussed, which mainly explain the poor classification accuracy of DGA data clustering. Then, an exponential form of the membership function is proposed to obtain monotony with respect to distance, thereby improving the dissolved gas data clustering. Likewise, a similarity function to determine the degree of membership is derived. Test results for large datasets show that the improved clustering algorithm can be successfully applied for DGA-data-based transformer fault detection.

Three-ratio of the IEC is a convenient and effective approach for transformer fault diagnosis in the dissolved gas analysis (DGA). Fuzzy theory is used to preprocess the three-ratio for its boundary that is too absolute. As the same time, an improved quantum genetic algorithm IQGA (QGASAC) is used to optimize the weight and threshold of the back propagation (BP). The local and global searching ability of the QGASAC approach is utilized to find the BP optimization solution. It can overcome the slower convergence velocity and hardly getting the optimization of the BP neural network. So, aiming at the shortcoming of BP neural network and three-ratio, blurring the boundary of the gas ratio and the QGASAC algorithm is introduced to optimize the BP network. Then the QGASAC-IECBP method is proposed in this paper. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm in this paper that both convergence velocity and veracity are all improved to some extent. And in this paper, the proposed algorithm is robust and practical.

The transformers work in a complex environment, which makes them prone to failure. Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is one of the most important methods for oil-immersed transformers’ internal insulation fault diagnosis. In view of the high correlation of the same fault data of transformers, this paper proposes a new method for transformers’ fault diagnosis based on correlation coefficient density clustering, which uses density clustering to extrapolate the correlation coefficient of DGA data. Firstly, we calculated the correlation coefficient of dissolved gas content in the fault transformers oil and enlarged the correlation of the same fault category by introducing the amplification coefficient, and finally we used the density clustering method to cluster diagnosis. The experimental results show that the accuracy of clustering is improved by 32.7% compared with the direct clustering judgment without using correlation coefficient, which can effectively cluster different types of transformers fault modes. This method provides a new idea for transformers fault identification, and has practical application value.
