The Impact

The ohmic resistances of the anion and cation ion-exchange membranes (IEMs) that constitute a reverse electrodialysis system (RED) are of crucial importance for its performance. In this work, we study the influence of concentration (0.1 M, 0.5 M, 1 M and 2 M) of ammonium bicarbonate solutions on the ohmic resistances of ten commercial IEMs. We also studied the ohmic resistance at elevated temperature 313 K. Measurements have been performed with a direct two-electrode electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) method. As the ohmic resistance of the IEMs depends linearly on the membrane thickness, we measured the impedance for three different layered thicknesses, and the results were normalised. To gauge the role of the membrane resistances in the use of RED for production of hydrogen by use of waste heat, we used a thermodynamic and an economic model to study the impact of the ohmic resistance of the IEMs on hydrogen production rate, waste heat required, thermochemical conversion efficiency and the levelised cost of hydrogen. The highest performance was achieved with a stack made of FAS30 and CSO Type IEMs, producing hydrogen at 8.48× 10−7 kg mmem−2s−1 with a waste heat requirement of 344 kWh kg−1 hydrogen. This yielded an operating efficiency of 9.7% and a levelised cost of 7.80 € kgH2−1.

In this research, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is employed to monitor the resistance of a fuel cell during operation with different operating conditions and different materials for the bipolar plates. The operating condition variables are cell humidity, pure oxygen or air as oxidizer, and current density. Three groups of single cells were tested: a graphite cell, a stainless steel cell (treated and original), and a thin, small, treated stainless steel cell. A treated cell here means using an electrochemical treatment to improve bipolar plate anticorrosion capability. From the results, the ohmic resistance of a fully humidified treated stainless steel fuel cell is 0.28 Ω cm2. Under the same operating conditions, the ohmic resistance of the graphite and the original fuel cell are each 0.1 Ω cm2 and that of the small treated cell is 0.3 Ω cm2. Cell humidity has a greater influence on resistance than does the choice of oxidizer; furthermore, resistance variation due to humidity effects is more serious with air support. From the above results, fuel cells fundamental phenomenon such as ohmic resistance, charge transfer resistance, and mass transport resistance under different operating conditions could be evaluated.

The use of video surveillance systems is used in the areas of security, law and order, in the territories of protected objects, in monitoring the movement of road vehicles and in other areas. The main disadvantage of a video surveillance system is its susceptibility to weather influences (rain, fog, snowfall, etc.), which degrades the quality of the video system by reducing the signal level. Therefore, the urgency of finding new ways and possibilities to improve the quality of video signals is one of the priority areas of signal processing. The main task of this work was to determine the main parameters, simulate the transmission line and amplifier, and select the schematic diagram of the transmitting and receiving path with the voltage and current ratings. Both the receiver and the cable video transmitter have different means of adjusting to different transmission line lengths. The signal at the output of each receiver should be in the range from 0.9 to 1.1 V, and the spread of the total ohmic resistance of the wires of the video transmission line at the input of the receiver should be no more than 2 – 3%. Based on these parameters, the equipment is configured for transmitting video over the channel. The magnitude of the mismatch is regulated by potentiometers, which allow smooth adjustment of the video transmission equipment [1]. As a rule, video transmission over the channel is carried out at a distance of 50 to 1500 m. If it is necessary to transmit video at distances less than 50 m, additional resistances are connected in series at the receiver input so that the total line resistance is 30 - 50 Ohm [1].

Accurate state-of-health (SOH) estimation for battery packs in electric vehicles (EVs) plays a pivotal role in preventing battery fault occurrence and extending their service life. In this paper, a novel internal ohmic resistance estimation method is proposed by combining electric circuit models and data-driven algorithms. Firstly, an improved recursive least squares (RLS) is used to estimate the internal ohmic resistance. Then, an automatic outlier identification method is presented to filter out the abnormal ohmic resistance estimated under different temperatures. Finally, the ohmic resistance estimation model is established based on the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) regression algorithm and inputs of temperature and driving distance. The proposed model is examined based on test datasets. The root mean square errors (RMSEs) are less than 4 mΩ while the mean absolute percentage errors (MAPEs) are less than 6%. The results show that the proposed method is feasible and accurate, and can be implemented in real-world EVs.

Currently, 3D printing is an affordable technology for industry, healthcare, and individuals. Understanding the mechanical properties and thermoplastic behaviour of the composites is critical for the users. Our results give guidance for certain target groups including professionals in the field of additive manufacturing for biomedical components with in-depth characterisation of the examined commercially available ABS and PLA carbon-based composites. The study aimed to characterize these materials in terms of thermal behaviour and structure. The result of the heating-cooling loops is the thermal hysteresis effect of Ohmic resistance with its accommodation property in the temperature range of 20–84 °C for ESD-ABS and 20–72 °C for ESD-PLA. DSC-TGA measurements showed that the carbon content of the examined ESD samples is ~10–20% (m/m) and there is no significant difference in the thermodynamic behaviour of the basic ABS/PLA samples and their ESD compounds within the temperature range typically used for 3D printing. The results support the detailed design process of 3D-printed electrical components and prove that ABS and PLA carbon composites are suitable for prototyping and the production of biomedical sensors.
