Atmospheric corrosion test of TRIP steels was conducted in laboratory. The surface morphologies of the specimens were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electro-probe microanalysis (EPMA). Corrosion performance of TRIP steels under atmospheric environment was investigated by discussing the protective mechanism. The corrosion rates of steel A are significantly greater than steel B in atmospheric environment tests. The enhancement of corrosion performance of TRIP steel is attributed to the additions of alloying elements, such as P, Cr, Cu, and Ni etc.. The alloying elements increase the compactness and densification of rust layers. Electrochemical characteristic of TRIP steel is improved by means of the enhancement of the thermodynamic stability.

Abstract It has been demonstrated that the natural atmospheric corrosion behavior of low alloy steels in marine environments can be accurately described by an equation of the form: ΔW = KtN. With this relationship, reliable predictions of long term weight losses can be made from as few as two sets of determinations obtained in relatively short exposures. The reliability of this relationship has also been established for galvanized and aluminized steels.

Significance If not offset by other changes, this will result in lower duties on Chinese imports found to have been dumped in the European market. Such a decision will be commercially significant for sectors where dumping investigations are rife and excess capacity is pervasive, such as basic metals, fabricated metal products, glass and related products, chemical products and electric machinery. Impacts The Commission will use other forms of discretion for dumping investigations, limiting the impact of granting MES to China. Firms seeking relief from Chinese competition will complement dumping complaints with other allegations of unfair trading practices. Granting MES to China and reforming the EU trade system will affect all EU trading partners. The US disagreement on China's MES is unlikely to colour other areas of EU-US commercial diplomacy, including the TTIP negotiations.
