Based on detailed analysis of the risk of bulk chemical tanker transportation, a societal risk acceptance criterion is established. The criterion takes advantage of formal safety assessment (FSA) methodology, which is widely used to analyze risk in maritime industry. In the end of this paper, the negligible range, the ALARP range and the intolerable range of bulk chemical tanker in China are estimated in the criterion.

In this paper, we propose a fast and scalable, yet effective, metaheuristic called FILO to solve large-scale instances of the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem. Our approach consists of a main iterative part, based on the Iterated Local Search paradigm, which employs a carefully designed combination of existing acceleration techniques, as well as novel strategies to keep the optimization localized, controlled, and tailored to the current instance and solution. A Simulated Annealing-based neighbor acceptance criterion is used to obtain a continuous diversification, to ensure the exploration of different regions of the search space. Results on extensively studied benchmark instances from the literature, supported by a thorough analysis of the algorithm’s main components, show the effectiveness of the proposed design choices, making FILO highly competitive with existing state-of-the-art algorithms, both in terms of computing time and solution quality. Finally, guidelines for possible efficient implementations, algorithm source code, and a library of reusable components are open-sourced to allow reproduction of our results and promote further investigations.

Cosmic-ray muons can be used for the non-destructive imaging of spent nuclear fuel in sealed dry storage casks. The scattering data of the muons after traversing provides information on the thereby penetrated materials. Based on these properties, we investigate and discuss the theoretical feasibility of detecting single missing fuel rods in a sealed cask for the first time. We perform simulations of a vertically standing generic cask model loaded with fuel assemblies from a pressurized water reactor and muon detectors placed above and below the cask. By analysing the scattering angles and applying a significance ratio based on the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test statistic we conclude that missing rods can be reliably identified in a reasonable measuring time period depending on their position in the assembly and cask, and on the angular acceptance criterion of the primary, incoming muons.

Empirical evidence and social commentary demonstrate favoring of Whites over Blacks in attitudes, social judgment, and social behavior. In 6 studies (N > 4,000), we provide evidence for a pro-Black bias in academic decision-making. When making multiple admissions decisions for an academic honor society, participants from undergraduate and online samples had a more relaxed acceptance criterion for Black than White candidates, even though participants possessed implicit and explicit preferences for Whites over Blacks. This pro-Black criterion bias persisted among subsamples that wanted to be unbiased and believed they were unbiased. It also persisted even when participants were given warning of the bias or incentives to perform accurately. These results suggest opportunity for theoretical and empirical innovation on the conditions under which biases in social judgment favor and disfavor different social groups, and how those biases manifest outside of awareness or control.

Different materials such as glass and composite cladding panels are common in the façade industry due to their architectural appearance. The direct sun rays enter the building and might produce discomfort to the occupants, especially in office and institutional buildings. Nowadays, perforated panels are widely used in facades and becoming more popular in the middle east. These panels are a formal exploration inspired by the Islamic patterns used in traditional Mashrabiya. This paper provides an overview of the application of Mashrabiya "perforated panels" and present structural assessment using software codes such as Robot and SAP2000 for vertical and horizontal installed cases. These panels are fabricated in different sizes with different thicknesses depends on their applications and uses. In this paper, rectangular, square fixed at the roof and vertically fixed panels are assessed. These are usually supported by steel or aluminium tubes designed for a wind load specified by project specifications. The cases presented here for the perforated panels arechecked for the induced stresses and deflections obtained from the numerical model using shell elements. The adopted framing systems and fixing detailing has been found satisfactory according to different acceptance criterion. The paper gives helpful design tools for the façade engineers.

Objective: The purpose of present investigation to formulate, characterize the oral dissolving tablets (ODT) for Lamotrigine. Lamotrigine, an antiepileptic agent, belongs to type –II as per Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS). Methods: ODT formulations of Lamotrigine were prepared using different quantities of Sodium Starch Glycolate & Crospovidone employed as Super disintegrants by Direct Compression technique. Nine trials were formulated and evaluated for Pharmaceutical Product Performance. Results: Results shows that all the formulations were lie within the acceptance criterion and the In-vitro dissolution profiles were subjected to kinetic modeling. Conclusion: Formulation (F4) containing 35 mg of Sodium Starch Glycolate & 40 mg of Crospovidone was found to be best one among all and also similar to the Marketed product (LAMICTAL-25) (f2=73.17, f1=3.65 & No significant difference, t=0.0218) to marketed product. Formulation (F4) follows First order, Higuchi’s kinetics, mechanism of drug release was found to be Non-Fickian Diffusion (n= 0.554).

A consolidated model for the turbine operation of centrifugal pumps comprising accurate prediction, optimum selection, and rigorous evaluation has been the primary need and the most challenging tasks for the industry to deal with. This paper introduces a consolidated model that is developed from experimental results of different pump shapes (20–80 rpm) and turbomachine fundamentals directly resulting in the parsimony feature of the model. The model also creates a new basis for dealing with uncertainties. The prediction model segment of the consolidated model requires only the pump shape and size as input parameters for bringing out the complete turbine characteristics. The selection model segment, on the other hand, requires the site head and flow as fixed input parameters and turbine speed as the control parameter to prescribe suitable pumps available in the market. The evaluation model segment compares the absolute turbine characteristics of the suitable pumps and recommends the most suitable pump for the given site. The model also includes an acceptance criterion that relates the deviation of the “pump as turbine” operating parameters with the site parameters, and it is very useful at the evaluation stage. The features of the consolidated model are illustrated with two case studies, which highlight the importance of evaluation in addition to the prediction and basic selection of pumps operating as turbines. In order to increase the accuracy and robustness of the model, the paper recommends an optimization routine stage on the existing model that comprises results of more pump shapes (obtained through field projects or extended laboratory work). The optimization procedure suggested would come a long way to provide a lasting solution for the search of a reliable pump as turbine model.
