An undulator generating a magnetic field whose longitudinal profile is arbitrarily varied has been developed, which is one of the key components in a number of proposed new concepts in free-electron lasers. The undulator is composed of magnet modules, each of which corresponds to a single undulator period, and is driven by a linear actuator to change the magnetic gap independently. To relax the requirement on the actuator, the mechanical load on each module due to magnetic force acting from opponent and adjacent modules is reduced by means of two kinds of spring systems. The performance of the constructed undulator has been successfully demonstrated by magnetic measurement and characterization of synchrotron radiation.

AbstractLead iron tantalate Pb(Fe1/2Ta1/2)O3 (PFT) is a compound derived of general formula Pb(BIxBII1-x)O3 wherein x=1/2. In this work synthesis, sintering processes, dielectric, electrical, magnetic measurement, and Raman spectroscopy properties of PFT ceramics are described. The dielectric properties of PFT showed typical relaxor behaviors. We saw that ferroelectric and magnetic orders coexist in PFT at room temperature.

The crystal structures of superconducting and nonsuperconducting PrBa2Cu3O x crystals were investigated using a single crystal X-ray precession camera. A large amount of stacking faults were observed in h0l reflections of as-grown supconducting PrBa2Cu3O x single crystals. These diffusing could be relaxed after oxygen annealing. Meanwhile, intensities of 003n (n = 1, 2, 3…) diffraction reflections of annealed crystal were increased significantly, indicating that the structural ordering of 1/3n unit cell was improved. Magnetic measurement exhibited that the superconducting state of PrBa2Cu3O x , is sensitive to magnetic fields and the magnetic fields dependence of the flux melting temperature showed that the sample has the smaller critical magnetic field than YBa2Cu3O x.

Four novel hetero dimetallic mixed metal complexes of 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid       (H2dipic), [Ni(H2O)5Co(dipic)2] (1), [Co(H2O)5Co(dipic)2][Ni(H2O)5Ni(dipic)2][Co(dipic)(H2O)3] (2), [Cu(H2O)5Ni(dipic)2]2[Co(dipic)(H2O)] (3) and [Ni(H2O)5Cu(dipic)2]2[Co(dipic)(H2O)] (4) have been prepared and characterized by elemental, AAS, spectral (IR and UV-Vis), and thermal analyses, as well as by using magnetic measurement and molar conductivity techniques. The results indicate that metal ions coordinate with 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate ions (dipic2-) nitrogen atoms and carboxylate oxygen atoms of ligands. The mole ratio of dipic2- and metal ions in the complexes have been determined to be 2:2 (Co, Ni) for 1, 5:5 (3Co, 2Ni) for 2, 5:5 (Co, 2Ni and 2Cu) for 3 and 5:5 (Co, 2Ni and 2Cu) for 4 according to the results of elemental analysis. The structures of 1-4 might be proposed as octahedral ([Cu(dipic)(H2O)] unit for 2 square plane) according to results of spectroscopic analysis. The TG and DTA properties of compounds have been studied.                     KEY WORDS: 2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid, Mixed metal, Metal complex   Bull. Chem. Soc. Ordered Au/Ni multilayer nanowire arrays have been fabricated into the pores of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates by pulse DC electrodeposition. Structural parameters, such as nanowire length and layer thickness can be controlled by changing the deposition time and the pulse width. The magnetic measurement results indicate that these Au/Ni multilayer nanowire arrays have small coercivity and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, which the easy axis is parallel to the nanowires. These Au/Ni multilayer structures are expected to be found potential applications in AC inductors or magnetic shielding.

Two new Mn(III) mixed-ligand complexes with two acetylacetonate (acac) ligands and one maleate ligand and its hydroxylamine derivative of the general formula [Mn(C5H7O2)2L] were prepared. Their structure was established by using elemental analysis, FTIR and UV/VIS spectroscopic methods, as well as magnetic measurement. Replacement of the acetylacetonate ligand by the corresponding acid ligand has been confirmed in Mn(III) acetylacetonate. Based on the obtained experimental data and literature indications, structural formulae to these compounds were assigned.

Two new Cu(II) mixed-ligand complexes with octadentate N,N?,N",N?"-tetrakis 2-pyridylmethyl))-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (tpmc) and potentially pentadentate ligands 2,6-diacetylpyridine bis(semicarbazone) (DAPsc2) or 2,6-diacetylpyridine bis(thiosemicarbazone) (DAPtsc2) were prepared. The general formulas: [Cu4DAPsc2(tpmc)2]ClO4)8. 5CH3COCH3. H2O and [Cu2 DAPtsc2(tpmc)](ClO4)4. 7C2H5OH were proposed on the basis of elemental analyses and conductometric measurements. The complexes were characterized by magnetic measurement, electronic absorption and IR spectroscopy. For the dinuclear complex, an exo coordination of Cu(II) with four nitrogens from tpmc and ?-bonded DAPtsc2 through sulfurs and possibly terminal hydrazinic (azomethine) nitrogens is assumed. For the tetranuclear complex, it is supposed that one DAPsc2 bridges two [Cu2tpmc]4+ units using oxygens and terminal hydrazinic nitrogens as ligators. Finally, some antibacterial activity of the complexes was found.

Characterization of magnetic and microwave absorbing properties of Mn(1-x)NdxFe2O4 synthesized with co-precipitation method have been carried out. Mn(1-x)NdxFe2O4 (with x = 0.0; 0.4; and 0.8) powders was synthesized from mixture of NiCl2, NdCl3 and FeCl3 in mole ratio. Mixing of this powders were soluted with NH4OH 4M up to pH = 9.0. The formed precipitate were washed with demineralized water up to pH = 7.0 and then dryed at 120 oC for 5 h, sintered at 1200 for 3 h. Phase identification with X-ray diffractometer (XRD) have formed composite multiphases, which indicated by the appearance of MnFe2O4, NdFeO3 and Fe2O3 phase. The magnetic measurement using VSM (vibrating sample magnetometer) showed that the sample exhibited a ferromagnetic behavior, the Ms value is lower (in the range of 30 – 11 emu/g) while the Hc value is greater (in the range of 111 – 132 Oe) with increased concentration of Nd3+ ion (x values). Measurement by VNA (Vector Network Analyzer) showed the ability of absorption of microwaves increased with increasing content of Nd3+ ion, the composition of x = 0.0 at about 70% and addition of Nd3+ ion up to composition x = 0.8 at about 91%.
