Abstract In the vein of Peirce’s communication philosophy, language communication inevitably suffers from its vagueness and uncertainty. Paradoxically, what enables this vagueness and uncertainty to be solved, and the condition of communication to be sufficiently met, is not language itself, but “collateral experience” communicators may weave, exchange, and share in communication. Collateral experience is forceful in penetrating the “universe,” in which communicators may be engaged, and in helping them in the wake of communication to acquire knowledge current in the community. Consequently, generality for a communicative act becomes established as the final goal of communication. Generality overcomes the vagueness and uncertainty arising from local and partial contingencies of context, and transcends beyond it. Due to communication, people become capable of finally resolving puzzlement, and of establishing their beliefs, with a guidance for their action.

In this article, we reflect on modern problems of linguistics and methods of teaching English. At present, the need to learn English in its actual functioning in various spheres of human activity has become generally accepted. The well-known fact is that an indispensable condition for the implementation of any communicative act must be a mutual knowledge of realities by the speaker and the hearer, which is the basis of language communication.

A person can achieve all the goals of one’s worldly life as well one’s spiritual life only when he is in good health. Scriptures also say that “sharira khalu mādhay dharma sādhanam” means the body is the real instrument for the spiritual path, so if it is not healthy we cannot enjoy either the material life, or the spiritual path. To be healthy we should maintain balance of the Panch Mahābhuta (five elements) in our body and universe. Panch Dev Upāsanā is a means to help us maintain the balance of these Panch Mahābhut in our body and in the universe. We can also achieve our final goal of liberation through the Upāsanā of Panch Dev which is advised and guided by our sages and scriptures.

The author, emphasizing the necessity of updating the content of the language education of non-philological foreign students of Ukrainian universities, performs a linguo-didactic analysis of the subject side of the content of the system of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language to non-philological students. Within the modern linguistic paradigm, the subject content of teaching a foreign language, in particular UFL, is considered a system of linguistic means (phonetic, lexical, grammatical, stylistic, socio-cultural, speech etiquette, rhetorical). In the conditions when the modern linguodidactic paradigm is dominated by communicative-activity and intercultural approaches and the consciously-practical method of teaching, aimed at ensuring that foreign students would master the content component of their language education, the following units of learning are recognized: sentences, expressions, texts, and dialogues. The need for updating the content component of the teaching system of UFL arises in connection with the requirements of the modern information society and new requirements for the tasks and results of teaching foreign languages. It has been found that the achievements of a relatively new theory of language communication will allow refining the components of the content of foreign language teaching, which will have an impact on improving the quality of language education of foreign non-philological students of Ukrainian universities. The submitted scientific research substantiates the choice of such a unit of study as a communicative act, which in the future allows reforming the educational process to attract foreign students to Ukrainian discourses. The author describes the structural-semantic components of the personal, verbal-cognitive, verbal and extraverbal levels of the communicative act as a fragment of the communication process within a certain communicative situation. The conclusion is made about the potentialities of the described parameters of the communicative act as a basis for updating the steady methodical principles of language material selection.

The Soviet astronomers B.P. Gerassimovich and N.I. Dneprovsky suggested in 1932 that a Catalogue of Faint Stars be compiled. The SRS catalogue is in fact a realization of this suggestion for the southern hemisphere. The final goal of the work is an international catalogue of faint stars IRS=AGK3R + SRS, containing about 40 000 stars of the 7–9th mag. evenly distributed over the celestial hemisphere at the rate of one star per square degree. This catalogue could supply reference coordinates for astrometric studies of the Universe.
