Abstract In this study, nine ternary blends of polypropylene (PP)/poly [styrene-b-(ethylene-co butylene)-b-styrene] tri-block copolymer (SEBS)/polycarbonate (PC) were produced at different processing conditions through twin screw extruder. Accordingly, die temperature, screw speed, and blending sequences were altered based on L9 Taguchi experimental design as indications of processing variables. Consequently, the impact strength of each produced sample is considered as the responding variable. Analyzing two important aspects, namely main and interactive effects by using Taguchi analysis, was the especial point of view in our contribution; as a result, not only was the PP/SEBS/PC ternary system studied for the first time, but the SEBS-g-MAH compatibilizer also showed sufficient effects on morphology development. It was observed that the impact strength of PP/SEBS/PC ternary blends is not affected by die temperature significantly, whereas screw speed and blending sequence have had effective impacts. Besides, the optimum processing condition, which is proportional to the highest value of impact strength, is recommended through the mentioned ternary blends. These results are also confirmed while applying image analysis on morphology micrographs.

The impact property of injection-molded plastic components is an important factor to judge their quality. The aim of this paper is to study the effects of processing conition on impact property of injection-molded polycarbonate (PC). By changing the processing conitions such as injection molding parameters and thermal treatment, different impact samples were acquired. Then, Izod and Charpy notch impact tests were carried out to research the relation between the impact strength and the prcessing conditions. The results imply that different processing conitions will lead to different changes of impact property.

AbstractRandom forest regression was applied to optimize the melt-blending process of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) with poly(ethylene-glycidyl methacrylate-methyl acrylate) (E-GMA-MA) elastomer to improve the Charpy impact strength. A training dataset was constructed using four elastomers with different GMA and MA contents by varying the elastomer content up to 20 wt% and the screw rotation speed of the extruder up to 5000 rpm at a fixed barrel temperature of 300 °C. Besides the controlled parameters, the following measured parameters were incorporated into the descriptors for the regression: motor torque, polymer pressure, and polymer temperatures monitored by infrared-ray thermometers installed at four positions (T1 to T4) as well as the melt viscosity and elastomer particle diameter of the product. The regression without prior knowledge revealed that the polymer temperature T1 just after the first kneading block is an important parameter next to the elastomer content. High impact strength required high elastomer content and T1 below 320 °C. The polymer temperature T1 was much higher than the barrel temperature and increased with the screw speed due to the heat of shear. The overheating caused thermal degradation, leading to a decrease in the melt viscosity and an increase in the particle diameter at high screw speed. We thus reduced the barrel temperature to keep T1 around 310 °C. This increased the impact strength from 58.6 kJ m−2 as the maximum in the training dataset to 65.3 and 69.0 kJ m−2 at elastomer contents of 20 and 30 wt%, respectively.

AbstractIn this study, nine ternary polymer blends based on polypropylene (PP)/polycarbonate (PC)/styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene triblock copolymer (SEBS) with the same compositions (70%wt PP, 15%wt PC, 7.5%wt SEBS and 7.5%wt maleic-anhydride grafted SEBS (SEBS-g-MAH) as a compatibilizer) are prepared using twin screw extruder at different levels of die temperature (235-245- 255 °C), screw speed (70-100-130rpm) and blending sequence (M1-M2-M3) . In M1 procedure, all of the components are dry blended and extruded simultaneously using Brabender twin-screw extruder. In M2 procedure, PC, SEBS, and SEBS-g- MAH minor phases are first pre-blended in twin screw extruder and after granulating are added to PP continuous phase in twin screw extruder. Consequently, in M3 procedure, PP and SEBS-g-MAH are first pre-blended and then are extruded with other components. The influence of these parameters as processing conditions on mechanical properties of PP/PC/SEBS ternary blends is investigated using L9 Taghuchi experimental design. The responding variables are impact strength and tensile properties (young modulus and yield stress) which are influenced by the morphology of ternary blend and the results are used to perform the analysis of variance (ANOVA). It is shown that the resulted morphology, tensile and impact strength are influenced by extrusion variables. Additionally the optimum processing conditions of ternary PP/PC/SEBS blends from Taguchi analysis was achieved.

The term geo-sciences has been used here to include the disciplines geology, geophysics and geochemistry. However, in order to apply geophysics and geochemistry effectively one must begin with a geological model. Therefore, the science of geology should be used as the basis for lunar exploration. From an astronomical point of view, a lunar terrain heavily impacted with meteors appears the more reasonable; although from a geological standpoint, volcanism seems the more probable mechanism. A surface liberally marked with volcanic features has been advocated by such geologists as Bülow, Dana, Suess, von Wolff, Shaler, Spurr, and Kuno. In this paper, both the impact and volcanic hypotheses are considered in the application of the geo-sciences to manned lunar exploration. However, more emphasis is placed on the volcanic, or more correctly the defluidization, hypothesis to account for lunar surface features.

In this study, I have collected and summarized the functional aspects of a literary prize, contest, and rating, which indicate their affiliation with the marketing complex of the publishing house for the first time. For this purpose, I have analyzed and summarized the common concepts of the functioning of literary prizes and contests as advertising tools for publishing activity. Because the previous studies are only focused on the fact of the impact of the prize on the promotion of editions but do not explain it, these aspects have been considered and introduced by me from the book production’s point of view. I investigated that the prizes and the contests in the literary field are effective marketing tools, which meet many publisher’s needs at the same time and can be considered a non-profit form of capital. I have reviewed the works of other authors, who accept that the economic success of the book is rising if the author is a winner of the literary prize or contest. I have found out that the book prize activates the demand for the book, and the literary contest is a tool to track the reader’s reaction to a future publication. In this way, literary prizes and contests can be considered as a way of conducting a marketing dialogue with the target audience. I have focused on the information support of literary national and international prizes and contests by the media, which attracts attention to the book and forms the reader’s interest. The literary prizes and contests are also considered as a way of exploring trends and their changes, familiarization the popular genres among the target audience and fixation the current choice of modern readers. Literary prizes and contests motivate the authors to improve their literary excellence, are the source of new authors and works, and assist in increasing sales of books. However, further research is recommended.
Key words: book prize, book rating, literary contest, literary prize, functions of the literary prizes.

Psycholinguistic research into metaphor processing is burdened with empirical problems as experiments provide diverging evidence on the impact of conventionality, familiarity and aptness, and with conceptual issues as the interpretation and operationalization of the three concepts mentioned, as well as the related predictions which can be drawn from theories of metaphor processing, are controversial in the literature. This paper uses tools of statistical meta-analysis in order to bring us closer to the solution of these problems and reveal future lines of research.

AbstractThe hegemony of colonialism in the culture of postcolonial society is the reason this studythen examines the colonial discourse in the novel Max Havellar (MH) in particular the impactit brings. The impact in question is the implied position of thought in the work. The resultsof the discussion show that, temporarily or permanently, MH voiced injustice in the colonialconditions regarding the oppression of the colonist against the colonized. However, the effort toname or represent the voice of the colonized has proven to imply a static ideological characterin the framework of colonialism (orientalism); ie Eropacentric point of view, in which “West” asself is superior, and “East” as the other is the inferior. In the context of postcolonialism, MH withits critical nature that seeks to “voice” the fate of the colonized natives, actually presents thestigma of strengthening coloniality itself hegemonicly. That is, “voicing” the fate of the pribumiis interpreted as a contradictory colonial flare, where the stigma of strengthening colonialityis more pronounced, which ultimately perpetuates the hegemony of colonialism. No longerdefending the colonized, but refining the workings of the colonial machinery.

For welded structures under operation in the Far North, attention must be paid to the performance of welded joints at low temperatures. The properties of metal of welded joints are changed in the process of treatment, its toughness decreases, and a heterogeneous structure with a large range of different grain sizes is formed. In order to evaluate and be able to correctly control the thermal effect and the consequences of the welding process, it is necessary to solve the problem of analytical determination of impact strength for all zones of the welded joint. The paper presents an engineering method for evaluation of the impact strength applicable to any area of the welded joint in which there is a sharp or super sharp stress concentrator – a crack. The developed analytical method for calculating the impact strength reflects a qualitative and quantitative codependency of structural and mechanical characteristics and the process of crack development in the temperature range of 77–300 K. The proposed schematization of dependence of the critical coefficient of stress intensity on the temperature made it possible to find coefficients characterizing the properties of the material and to perform calculations of changes in yield strength and tensile strength on operating temperature. Graphs of the crack development process dependency on the operating temperature for 15ГС and 17ГС steels were constructed, and their comparison with experimental data displays satisfactory agreement. It was found that at endurance limit stresses, the ratio of the crack development process to the critical crack length is constant, non-dependent on temperature, and is equal to 10 for 15ГС and 17ГС steels. Keywords: impact strength, fracture work, stress intensity factor, crack, ferrite-pearlite steel, heat affected zone, steel tempering.
